McGINNIS - age 77, ===================================== BALDWIN, GILBERT E. - age 68, of LaFollette, departed this life Saturday, June 21, 2003, at his home. He was a member of New Horizon Baptist Church of LaFollette. He was preceded in death by son, Ricky; mother, Vetress, and father, Lawrence Baldwin. Survived by wife of 47 years, Veldon; daughter, Crystal Shields of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.; granddaughter, Tiffany Tague; great-grandchildren, Raven and Brennan Tague of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.; brother, Harold of Holton, Kansas; sisters, Deanna Russell and Gloria McClain of Knoxville; special brother-in-law, Claude Beets of Knoxville. Mr. Baldwin was superintendent of a large construction firm in California, where he resided for 35 years. Upon retirement, he moved to LaFollette. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the chapel of Woodhaven Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Thursday 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Jim Wilcox officiating. BLACK, VERNON CLINTON - age 78, of Oak Ridge, died at Methodist Medical Center on Saturday, June 21, 2003. Born on May 21, 1925, in Ravenscroft, Tennessee, to parents, Andy Black and Ersia Dotson, both now deceased. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and Faith Masonic Lodge #756. He was a World War II Navy Veteran. Mr. Black retired from Martin Marietta Energy Systems after 36 years. He enjoyed farming and gardening. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Lloyd Black and sister, Leola Black. Survivors include wife of 53 years, Patricia Black of Oak Ridge; son, Gary Black and his wife, Tracy of Cookeville, Tenn.; daughter, Cindy Christopher and her husband, Wayne of Huntsville, Alabama; grandsons, Joey Black of Cookeville, Tenn., Casey Whitson and Logan Christopher, both of Huntsville, Alabama; brother, Robert Black of Sparta, Tenn., and sister, Lucy Monahan of Knoxville, Tenn. PHILLIPS, EVERETT LEE - of Kingston, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, June 22, 2003, at his home. He was a member of Victory Baptist Church in Kingston for 30 years. Preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Phillips; father, Tillman Phillips, and brother, R. C. Phillips. Survivors include son, Anthony Lee Phillips and wife, Tammy of Kingston; granddaughter, Heather Tapp and husband, Scott of Harriman; mother, Dixie Phillips of Kingston; sister, Ruby Nance of Knoxville, and brother, Billy Phillips of Kingston. Mrs. Shipe was preceded in death by her former husband of 55 years, Elwood Stephens, by her parents, Charlie Wright and Ollie Chitwood Wright, by four brothers, Bill Wright, Cecil Wright, Lonnie Wright and Robert Wright. Mrs. Shipe was born February 5, 1923, in Winfield, (Scott County) Tenn. She moved to Oak Ridge in 1945, and remained in Oak Ridge until her move to Knoxville in 1996. She was a homemaker and an active member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church since 1957. Sharp Funeral Home, is in charge of the arrangements. STOKES, VERNON - age 92, a resident of Oak Ridge and Farragut for over 50 years, passed away Friday, June 20, 2003 at his residence. A member of First Baptist Church Concord, he was a 58 year member of the Masonic Order- Scottish Rite, Chota Lodge and Valley Knoxville of Scottish Rite Freemasonry. He was General Supervisor at Oak Ridge Gaseous Diffusion Plant, now the K-25 site until June 1965. At that time he was appointed supervisor at the plant and equipment division at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, until his retirement on January 1, 1975. Preceded in death by his parents, O.A. and Effie Mae Upchurch Stokes, and a sister Ruby Webb. Survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Lois Stokes; children, Marion Stokes and wife Norma of Maryville; Lloyd Stokes and wife Betty of Oak Ridge; Jack Stokes and wife Cora of Lenoir City; Mona Faye and husband Donald Craig of Oak Ridge; Devota Morrison and Jean Stokes both of Knoxville; 16 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Also survived by sisters in law Evelyn Dudenbostle of Knoxville; Thelma Echols and Hattie Webb both of West Frankfurt, Illinois. McGINNIS - age 77, longtime resident of Powell, and current resident of Windsor Gardens Assisted Living Facility in Knoxville, passed away Friday morning, June 20, 2003, at St. Mary's Hospital. She was a longtime member of Sharon Baptist Church, where she served as church clerk for over 34 years. In 1944, she began working in Oak Ridge on the Manhattan Project and retired from the Department of Energy Technical Information Center in 1984. She was preceded in death by her two beloved husbands, Eugene McGinnis and Thomas M. Vannoy; parents, Bennie and Willie Harmon and sister, Hilda Nell Harmon. She is survived by a loving family: daughter, Doris Joan McGinnis of Powell; son, Clyde Phillip McGinnis and his wife, Faye, their children, son, Jerry Keith McGinnis and wife, Karen and their daughter, Allison Paige McGinnis of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Laura McGinnis Verigan and husband, Chet Verigan of Los Angeles, Calif.; son, Kenneth Eugene McGinnis and three daughters, Jennifer Michelle of Knoxville, Erin Nicole currently residing in Olean, New York, and Lindsay Rene' currently residing in Mobile, Ala., and their mother, Kathy C. McGinnis of Knoxville; also sister, Marlyn; brothers, Billy Harmon and family, Bobby Harmon and family all of Knoxville, and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be celebrated at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel 8 p.m. Monday with Dr. James Robertson, Rev. Dennis Blazier and Rev. Fred West officiating.
