>From the Knoxville News Sentinel 20 Jun 2003 BARNES, ESTELLE BINGHAM - 97 of Fountain City, HENDREN, IRENE MARIE - age 85, of Clinton, ROSENBERG, RICHARD ERWIN - 78, TIPTON, JOHN HOMER - age 73, of the Solway Community, ===================================== BARNES, ESTELLE BINGHAM - 97 of Fountain City, passed away Tuesday evening, June 17 at Shannondale Health Care Center. She was a long time active member of the Fountain City United Methodist Church. She was born November 8, 1905 to Charles Horace Bingham and Almyra Bethany Cantrell Bingham. Growing up in West Knoxville with her older sister, Myra Charlena Bingham and younger brother, Henry Theodore Bingham, she attended Epworth United Methodist Church, Van Gilder Elementary School, Boyd Junior High School and later graduated from Knoxville High. Married to Agricultural Extension Agent, Cushman Reid Barnes, the happy couple made their home in the Fort Sanders neighborhood of Knoxville until they moved to Union County and then to Lee County, Virginia. She was the Secretary to the Field Agent in Horticulture at the University of Tennessee; Court Reporter in Wartburg, Tenn.; Executive Secretary of the American Red Cross during World War II; County Director for the Tennessee Department of Welfare in Union County, Tenn.; Managing Editor Lee County Sun Newspaper, (Jonesburg, Va.); Secretary Jonesville United Methodist Church (Jonesville, Va.); and Secretary and Blue Cross Clerk at St. Mary's Memorial Hospital in Knoxville. As she raised her five children; Myra Jeanne B. Rhyne (widow of Elbert Rhyne) of Knoxville, Tenn., Charles Reid Barnes (wife Edith Ann Barnes) of Claxton, Tenn., Eleanor Louise Miller (husband Lowell Miller) of Melbourne, Fla., Lawrence "Larry" Kemsey Barnes (wife Helen Barnes) of Clearwater, Fla. and Carolyn Estelle B. Webster (husband Stan Webster) of Carthage, Tenn.; she also busied herself as Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star, member of the State P.T.A. in Tennessee and Virginia and as a special volunteer at St. Mary's Memorial Hospital receiving accommodation for over three thousand volunteer hours served. Upon moving back to Knoxville she and her husband enjoyed several years of retirement until his death in 1976. She wrote poetry for most of her life and published a book of collected poems, Golden Recollections, in 1994; the poems were based upon her life experiences. She was a long time resident of the Cedar Chase Subdivision on Browns Gap Road in Fountain City. Five children, nineteen grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and a host of other loving family members and friends survived her. Family and friends will meet at 10:15 a.m. Friday, June 20 at Gentry-Griffey Chapel to go in procession to Greenwood Cemetery for graveside services at 11 a.m. Active pallbearers will be grandsons: Stanton Webster, Martin, Mark and Timmy Miller, Bert, Reid, Randy and Rusty Rhyne, Chuck, Steve and Luke Barnes. HENDREN, IRENE MARIE - age 85, of Clinton, passed away Thursday, June 19, 2003 at the Mariner Health Care Center. She was born November 4, 1917 in Briceville. She was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Clinton. Mrs. Hendren had worked in earlier years as a knitter at the Magnet Hosiery Mills in Clinton. Preceded in death by husband, Paul Hendren; son, Larry Paul Hendren; parents, Robert & Effie Taylor Johnson; sister, Bonnie Taylor. ROSENBERG, RICHARD ERWIN - 78, died Sunday, June 15, 2003 at Life Care Center of Morgan County, surrounded by his family. He had been living with Parkinson's Disease for many years. Born January 6, 1925, in Shawano, Wis., he was the son of Alfred and Frieda Pahlow Rosenberg, both now deceased. He was a submarine officer in the US Navy at 17 and served on the USS Puffer during World War II. His studies at Valparaiso University led to a law degree and eventual partnership in the Nowlan and Mouat Law Firm in Janesville, Wis. In Janesville, he was president of the city council on which he served for eight years and a founding member of St. Mark Lutheran Church. Mr. Rosenberg was active in the mentoring of young lawyers in his law firm and taught the Bethel Series, an adult Bible study course. He was a Fellow of the American Academy of Trial Lawyers and argued cases before the Wisconsin Supreme Court. Mr. Rosenberg retired from his law practice in 1990 and moved to Oak Ridge with his wife, Judy Alspaugh Rosenberg, a native of the city. He came to know the community by way of Faith Lutheran Church, volunteer activities at Recording for the Blind and his golf and poker groups. His family said he was an avid reader and fan of the Oak Ridge Library before his disease began restricting his activities and abilities. His family said he was nurtured during his illness by family and friends as well as caring staffs at Keystone Adult Day Program, the Oak Ridge Retirement Community and Estates of Oak Ridge, and briefly at the Life Care Center of Morgan County. In addition to his wife Judy, Mr. Rosenberg is survived by his daughter, Gay McManamy of Denver, Colo.; three sons, Eric Rosenberg and Paul Rosenberg both of Bend, Ore. and Peter; a daughter in law, Valerie; three grandchildren, Allegrea, Jacob and Ravelle, all of Janesville; stepdaughter, Jill Ebeling of Davis, Calif.; a stepson, David Ebeling of Albuquerque, NM; two brothers, Don of Wauseu, Wis. and Herb of Twisp, Wash.; and by a sister, Helen Domke of Seattle, Wash. A memorial service was held Tuesday June 17, 2003 at Faith Lutheran Church, 1300 Oak Ridge Turnpike. Burial was by cremation. The family received friends at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church. The family requests that any memorials be made in the form of contributions to Faith Lutheran Church, Keystone Adult Day Program, 1300 Oak Ridge Turnpike, Oak Ridge, Tenn. 37830 or the Parkinson's Foundation 710 West 168th St., New York, NY 10032-9982. Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. TIPTON, JOHN HOMER - age 73, of the Solway Community, died Wednesday, June 18, 2003 at his home. Veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving with the US Army. Retired in 1991 from TVA where he was a carpenter. Faithful member of Solway Baptist Church. Also a Shriner and member of Faith Masonic Lodge #756 and the Carpenter's Union. Preceded in death by parents, Homer and Anna Kittler Tipton; and son, John David Tipton. Survived by: wife, Beryl Anita Chambers Tipton, with whom he would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on October 10th, 2003; daughter-in-law, Kaye Smithson Tipton of Nolensville; sister, Ruth Evans of Kingston; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2003 at 8:00pm at Weatherford Mortuary with Rev. Ray Buchanan officiating. Graveside services are Sunday at 2:00pm at Anderson Memorial Gardens.
