Blalock, 45, of the Marlow community ===================================== James "Jim" LaVelle Madix, 76, of Oak Ridge died Tuesday, June 9, 2003, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge, of complications from open heart surgery. Born Feb. 26, 1927, in Buckingham, Ill., he was the son of Raymond and Glennie Holmes Madix, both now deceased. Mr. Madix was a World War II Navy veteran, a retired chemist from the K-25 site and a graduate of the University of Tennessee. His family said he enjoyed fishing, playing bridge and was an avid reader. Mr. Madix was a Methodist. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Dennis E. Madix. Mr. Madix is survived by his wife of 45 years, Julia M. Madix; two sons, Richard L. Madix of Pikeville and Steve G. Madix of Oak Ridge; three daughters, Jean M. Atkinson and husband, Matthew, and Karen E. Bullock and husband, Craig, all of Oak Ridge, and Susan E. Madix of Tampa, Fla.; four grandchildren, Kevin Atkinson, Nathan Atkinson, Austin Bullock and Abby Bullock, all of Oak Ridge; and by a step granddaughter, Aubrey Atkinson of Oak Ridge. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 12, 2003, in the chapel of Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home with the Rev. Boyd Carter officiating. Burial will follow at Anderson Memorial Gardens on Oliver Springs Highway. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Dorothy Lee Proffitt, 85, of Seymour, died Monday, June 9, 2003, at Briarcliff Health Care Center in Oak Ridge. Born July 2, 1917, in Anderson County, she was the daughter of John and Masie Harness White, both now deceased. She was a member of Poplar Creek Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three children, Shannon Proffitt, Freddie Ray Proffitt and Stanley Proffitt; a brother, Gene White; and by a sister, Ruby Johnson. Ms. Proffitt is survived by a daughter, Judy McCarter and husband, Neil, of Seymour; four grandchildren, Debbie Proffitt of Oliver Springs, Dedra Hensley of Harriman, Freida Widner of Sevierville, and Jana McCarter of Seymour; three sisters, Louise Rhody of Clinton, Ella Faye Conner Ryan and husband, Newton, of Deland, Fla., and Ann Panazzo of Chicago, Ill., a brother, Tom White and wife, Margie, of Florida; a sister-in-law, Nadine White of Norma; and by several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m., Friday, June 13, 2003, at Anderson Memorial Gardens on Oliver Springs Highway, with the Rev. Gary Hensley officiating. Holley-Gamble Funeral Home of Clinton is in charge of arrangements. Robert Terence Dripps, 37, of Clinton, died Saturday, May 31, 2003, at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville. A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Friday, June 13 at the bench in the Garden of Prayer at Oak Ridge Memorial Park Richard F. Blalock, 45, of the Marlow community in Anderson County, died Tuesday, June 10, 2003, at Roane Medical Center of Harriman.
