Born Nov. 4, 1917, in Briceville, she was the daughter of Robert and Effie Taylor Johnson, both now deceased. Mrs. Hendren was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church in Clinton and in earlier years she worked as a knitter at the Magnet Hosiery Mills in Clinton. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Hendren; a son, Larry Paul Hendren; and by a sister, Bonnie Taylor. Mrs. Hendren is survived by a son, Robert Hendren and wife, Shirley, of Andersonville; a daughter, Rebecca East and husband, Larry, of Fairburn, Ga.; a daughter-in-law, Andrea Hendren of Heiskell; six grandchildren, Mendy McBee and husband, Bo, of Oak Ridge, Robin Jones and husband, Scott, of Andersonville, Larry East Jr. and wife, Nancy, of Waynesville, N.C., Jonathan East and wife, Theresa, of Knoxville, and Stephanie Johnson and husband, Gene, and Larry Allen Hendren and wife, Nicole, all of Heiskell; and by four great-grandchildren, Caleb Jones of Andersonville, and Andrea Hendren, Dakota Letierri, and Joey Letierri, all of Heiskell. She is also survived by a sister, Anne Johnson of Clinton; two half sisters, Ruby Slover and husband, Leo, and Bobbie Jennings and husband, Horace, all of Lake City; a sister-in-law, Audrey Gulley of Clinton; and by several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Friday, June 20, 2003, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. Gary Jenkins officiating. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 21, at Hendren Family Cemetery in Clinton. The family will receive friends form 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. John Homer Tipton, 73, of the Solway community, died Wednesday, June 18, 2003, at his home. Born Dec. 21, 1929, in Stuttgart, Ark., he was the son of Homer and Anna Carlena Kittler Tipton, both now deceased. Mr. Tipton was a veteran of the Korean conflict, serving with the U.S. Army. He retired in 1991 from Tennessee Valley Authority, where he was a carpenter. His family said he was a faithful member of Solway Baptist Church. Mr. Tipton was also a Shriner and member of Faith Masonic Lodge No. 756 and the carpenter's union. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, John David Tipton, March 15, 2001. Mr. Tipton is survived by his wife, Beryl Anita Chambers Tipton, with whom he would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Oct. 10, 2003. He is also survived by a daughter-in-law, Kaye Smithson Tipton of Nolensville; a sister, Ruth Evans of Kingston; and by several nieces and nephews. His family said he will be remembered by many friends. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Saturday, June 21, 2003, at Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Ray Buchanan officiating. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 22, at Anderson Memorial Gardens on Oliver Springs Highway. The family requests that any memorials be made in the form of contributions to Solway Baptist Church, 9013 Solway Ferry Road, Knoxville, TN 37931. Doris Coltrain Lewis, 77, of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., died Tuesday, June 17, 2003, at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids. Born Sept. 20, 1925, she was the daughter of J. J. and Caridell W. Coltrain, both now deceased. Mrs. Lewis was a member of Hawkins Chapel United Methodist Church in Littleton, N.C., and she was owner and operator of Family Ceramics. Her family said she was a loving and giving wife, mother and grandmother. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Hazel Newell. Mrs. Lewis is survived by her husband of 53 years, Stanley A. Lewis; her daughter, Pamela Irminger and husband, Ray, of Oak Ridge; her son, the Rev. Stanley Lewis Jr. and wife, Teresa, of Halifax, N.C.; and by two grandchildren, Lesley Irminger and Phil Irminger, both of Oak Ridge. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2003, at Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Darlington, N.C., with the Rev. Bob Rose officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday June 23, at Hockaday Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids. Doria June Portwood, 65, of Knoxville, formerly of Morgan County, died Thursday, June 19, 2003, at Fort Sanders Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville.
