GLADYS BUNCH - age 85, of the Joyner community, MINER, BESS - age 77, of Oak Ridge, SHELTON, HERBERT "DALE" - age 42, of the Claxton ===================================== ADAMS, JAMES ROBERT - age 61, of Oak Ridge died Monday, June 9, 2003, after a brief i1lness, at his home, surrounded by his family. Mr. Adams was born on September 9, 1941, in Columbus, Ohio, and lived in and around Oak Ridge from 1950. He was a graduate of Oak Ridge High School, Class of 1959, and received a degree from the University of North Carolina in 1964, with majors in history and political science. After graduation, James toured Europe for 3 years, which included studies at Westminster College in England, the University of Bordeaux in France. James held odd jobs in Germany, Italy, England, and France, where he learned to speak fluent French. After his European tour, James studied French at the University of Tennessee and worked in the UT Food Service Department for 13 years. He retired from UT to help care for his parents, while periodically working at Oak Ridge Country Club, Mr. Gatti's, and most recently, Oak Ridge Floral. James was involved in political activities, including running on the Democratic ticket for Knox County Commissioner, and was nominated as a candidate in a congressional primary in 1974. He could always be counted on for a lively political discussion. He was involved in community activities, with particular acknowledgment to his special Oak Ridge friends and his Sunday Lunch Club. He enjoyed classical music, opera, theater, reading, and writing. He never stopped learning, studying, and helping others. Mr. Adams, the eldest son of Robert and Helen Adams, both previously deceased, is survived by his sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and her husband, Gary Klipple of Silver Spring, Md. and Knoxville, Tenn.; Virginia and her husband, Douglas Harrow of Atlanta, Ga.; Betsy and Paul Fabry of New Orleans, La.; Sharon and Dan Moore of Norris, Tenn., and Barbara Adams of Carbondale, Colo., and his brothers and sister-in-law, David and Maurean Adams of Hendersonville, N.C., and Gerald Adams of Oak Ridge. In addition, Uncle James was very close to China Hoban, Ivory Melas, and their brother, Michael Thor. Fifteen nieces and nephews also survive him. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 11, at Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Thursday, June 12, at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow the service at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. DUGGINS, DENNIS NEIL - age 69, of Norris, passed away Monday, June 9, 2003, at the Lake City Health Care Center. He was a graduate of the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. He was a member of Norris Religious Fellowship Church. He retired from Tennessee Valley Authority. Preceded in death by parents, Joseph W. and Alma Ruth Lawrence Duggins. Mr. Duggins was born January 22, 1934, in Kewanee, Illinois. Survivors: wife, Mary Kay Thomas Duggins of Norris; sons, Jeff Duggins and wife, Kim of Marietta, Ga., Kevin Duggins and fiancée, Janet, of St. Louis Park, Minn., David Duggins and wife, April, of Minot, North Dakota; grandchildren, Thomas and Andrew Duggins of Marietta, Ga., Matthew Duggins of High Wycombe, England, Kieran Duggins of Minot, North Dakota; sisters, Barbara Shelton of Norris, Mary Kay Jennings and husband, Bill of Pisgah Forest, N.C.; brother, Dick Duggins and wife, Sandy of Ferndale, Michigan, and a host of nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at a later date by the family. Memorials may be made to Norris Religious Fellowship Church, Norris, TN, 37828. Holley-Gamble Funeral Home, of Clinton, in charge of all arrangements. LOWE, MRS. GLADYS BUNCH - age 85, of the Joyner community, passed away at her home on June 8, 2003. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold Lowe; parents, General and Mattie Goodman Bunch; brothers, Claiborne, Clifford, Harley and Ledford Bunch. Surviving are daughter and son-in-law, Violet and Richard Woods, whom she lived with for the past thirteen years; grandson, Jerry Woods and Fiancee' Joanna McPeters, all of the Joyner community; sisters, Thelma Lowe and May McCoy, both of the Joyner community and Agness McGee of Knoxville; brother, Ray Bunch of Ohio. The funeral service will be held Tuesday evening, June 10, 2003 in Schubert Funeral Home Chapel, Wartburg, Rev. Don Daughtery and Rev. Luke Ward officiating. Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. in Anderson Memorial Gardens in Oak Ridge. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Schubert Funeral Home. MINER, BESS - age 77, of Oak Ridge, died Saturday, June 7, 2003, at her home. Member of Glenwood Baptist Church. Survived by husband of 60 years, James Edward Miner; sons, Charles Walker Miner and his wife, Sylvia of Claxton, and Jeffery Thomas Miner and his wife, Patricia of Oak Ridge; grandchildren, Charles Edward Miner of Claxton, Jeffrey Andrew Miner of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and imothy Thomas Miner and his wife, Melissa of Oak Ridge; great-grandchildren, Carly Bryce Miner and her mother, Melanie Miner of Claxton, and Jaret Miner of Oak Ridge. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 10, 2003, at 7:30 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary with Rev. Thomas Rayford officiating. Private graveside services will be held on Wednesday at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family asks, any memorials be in the form of contributions to the American Diabetes Association. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary, Oak Ridge. SHELTON, HERBERT "DALE" - age 42, of the Claxton community, passed away Sunday, June 8, 2003 at home after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born May 27, 1961 in Knoxville, Tennessee. He was of the Baptist faith. Before his illness, Dale worked 20 years for his father, Herbert Shelton, at Shelton Produce and made many friends. His parents are Mary Jo Shelton of Knoxville and father and step-mother, Herbert and Fran Shelton of Claxton. Survivors include loving wife, Kim and children, Jessica and Jeremy of the home, Julie Allen and husband, Kenny and Johnny Shelton and wife, Kim, all of Morristown. Besides his parents, he is also survived by sisters and brother-in-law, Debbie and David Wooten of Knoxville and JoAnn Wilson of Corryton; nieces, Ara Wooten and Carly Wilson; nephew, Noah Wooten; mother and father-in-law, Debbie and Harold Gilreath; two brothers-in-law and their families; also many aunts, uncles and cousins; special friends, Tammy Garner, Gary Hobbs, Keith Walker and his special little girl, Brittany Allen. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Woodhaven Chapel with the service to follow at 8:00 p.m., Rev. Henry Brown and Rev. Charles Riggs officiating. Family and friends will meet at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday at Lynnhurst Cemetery for a 1:00 p.m. graveside service.
