>From The Oak Ridger 2 Jun 2003 Catherine Clare Shappert, 68, of Oak Ridge, Ann Marie Silver, 60, of Clinton, William Lee Davenport, 64, of Hernando, Fla., Mae Virgene Lyons Durbin, 87, of Danville, Ohio, ===================================== Catherine Clare Shappert, 68, of Oak Ridge, died Wednesday, May 28, 2003, at her home. Born June 10, 1934, in Baton Rouge, La., she was the daughter of Roy E. Hyde and Elaine Lorio Hyde, both now deceased. Mrs. Shappert graduated valedictorian from Southeastern High School in Hammond, La. in 1952 and received degrees in biology and physiology with a minor in English in 1956 from Southeastern Louisiana College. She also earned her master's degree in zoology from Louisiana State University. She taught science at Lake Charles High School in Louisiana before moving to Oak Ridge in 1959 to work in the Biology Division of Oak Ridge National Laboratory. She also worked as a technical editor at the lab from 1974 to 2000. Mrs. Shappert was the president of the Dance Club in Oak Ridge, president of Church Women United, secretary of the Diabetes Association at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge, and she was a volunteer for the Oak Ridge Playhouse. She was also a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. The family said she loved to garden, write poetry and enjoyed traveling. Mrs. Shappert is survived by her husband of 42 years, Larry B. Shappert; two daughters, Susan Saliba and husband, Tony, of Dayton, Ohio, and Becky Luther and husband, David, of Bristol; two sons, Stephen Shappert and wife, Rhonda, of Commercial Pt., Ohio, and Christopher Shappert and wife, Kristen, of Suwanee, Ga.; her mother-in-law, Louise Cowger of Oak Ridge; and by nine grandchildren, Joey, Justin and Alaina, all of Dayton, Brendan, Erin and Sarah, all of Bristol, and Julia, Anna and Maria, all of Commercial Pt. She is also survived by two sisters, Susan Forbes and husband, Don, of Norris and Carol Clark and husband, Tuffy, of Asheville, N.C., and by several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 31, 2003, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. Michael Woods officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. Stephen Shappert, Christopher Shappert, Tony Saliba, David Luther, Tuffy Clark and Don Forbes will serve as pallbearers. Ann Marie Silver, 60, of Clinton, died Thursday, May 29, 2003, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Born March 6, 1943, in Athens, she was the daughter of John W. Bishop of Oak Ridge and Eunice Irene McKenzie Bishop, who died in 1972. In addition to her father, Mrs. Silver is survived by her husband of 40 years, Carroll Lee Silver; two brothers, George W. Bishop and wife, Sharon, of Knoxville, and Fleet McKenzie and wife, Ann, of Baltimore, Md.; and by a brother-in-law, Glenn Silver and wife, Shirley, of Clinton. She is also survived by a niece, Devonne Moore and husband, Jeff, of Oak Ridge; a nephew, Chris Silver and wife, Angie, of Cleveland; two grandnephews, Raymond McClung of Oak Ridge and Noah Silver of Cleveland; and by a grandniece, Morgan Silver of Cleveland. The funeral will be at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 31, 2003, in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Luke Kidwell officiating. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, June 1, at Anderson Memorial Gardens on Oliver Springs Highway. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the mortuary. William Lee Davenport, 64, of Hernando, Fla., died Thursday, May 29, 2003, at his home. Mr. Davenport's nicknames were "Buck" and "Buster." He was a native of Oliver Springs and lived in Toledo, Ohio before moving to Florida in 1999. He was a Baptist and a retired saw mill worker. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nannie Lee Davenport; his parents, Vence Lee Davenport and Carrie Davenport Dunlap; two sisters, Essie Lillian Goodman and Tootsie Marie Mayton; and by two brothers, Harold Davenport and Charles Davenport. Mr. Davenport is survived by a sister, Linda Nevills of Hernando; an aunt, Mammie Thacker, of Oliver Springs; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday, June 2, 2003, at Indian Creek Baptist Church in Oliver Springs. Burial and a graveside service will follow at Indian Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 1, at Sharp Funeral Home. Mae Virgene Lyons Durbin, 87, of Danville, Ohio, died Monday, May 26, 2003, at her home. Born on June 25, 1916, in Ringgold, Ohio, she was the daughter of Harry W. and Grace M. Denton Lyons. On June 8, 1936, she was married to Arthur J. Durbin, who died Aug. 30, 2002. The family said she was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She worked for more than 20 years at Patented Products in Danville and she also owned and operated with her husband, Durbin's Dairy in Danville. She was a member of St. Luke Church in Danville, a PCCW and card club 56 member. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Richard N. Durbin; a brother, Edwin Lyons; two sisters, Eleanor Rice and Pauline Dennis; and by two sons-in-law, Harold Lahmon and Joe Ridgway. Mrs. Durbin is survived by 11 children, Jean Lahmon and husband, Harold, Kathy Kanuckel and husband, Mick, all of Howard, Ohio; Linda Colopy, Bill Durbin and wife, Mimi, Ron Durbin and wife, Jenny, and Ed Durbin, all of Danville; Carmen Myer and husband, Fred, of Oak Ridge; Danny Durbin and wife, Judy, of Mansfield, Ohio; Joe Durbin, and wife, Sherry, of Galion, Ohio; Polly Hansen and husband, Gary, of Bellville, Ohio; and Mike Durbin and wife, Nancy, of Massillon, Ohio. She is also survived by 51 grandchildren, 105 great-grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Lucy Workman of Columbus, Ohio. A funeral Mass was to be at 1 p.m. Friday, May 30, 2003, at St. Luke Catholic Church in Danville with the Rev. F. Richard Snoke officiating. Burial will be at St. Luke Cemetery.
