Mrs. Koons was the president of The Epicurean of Oak Ridge Inc. and managed the store for many years before her illness. She was a 1978 graduate of Oak Ridge High School and her family said she was an avid reader and loved children. Her family said she also enjoyed boating and jet skiing. She was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Melvin Koons. Mrs. Koons is survived by her husband, Jeffrey Koons; two children, Daniel Bowers of Clinton and Christina Bowers of Oak Ridge; her parents, Tom and Ella Gayle of Oak Ridge; her mother-in-law, Melly Koons; a sister, Alyson Gayle Hope of Lenoir City; three brothers-in-law, Monty Koons and Gary Koons, both of Oak Ridge, and Steve Koons and wife, Sandy, of Knoxville; two nieces, Brianna Hope of Lenoir City and Jade Koons of Knoxville; and by three nephews, Ryan Koons of Alcoa, and Elijah Koons and Zachary Koons, both of Knoxville. The funeral will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 12, 2003, in the chapel of Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home with the Rev. Leroy Lautz officiating. Burial will be private. The family requests that any memorials be made in the form of contributions to the Habitat for Humanity of Anderson County, P.O. Box 7021, Oak Ridge, TN 37831 or The Oak Ridge Humane Society, 1345 Oak Ridge Turnpike, Suite 366, Oak Ridge, TN 37830. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. James Robert Adams, 61, of Oak Ridge died Monday, June 9, 2003, after a brief illness, at his home surrounded by his family. Born on Sept. 9, 1941, in Columbus, Ohio, he was the son of Robert and Helen Adams, both now deceased. Mr. Adams lived in and around Oak Ridge since 1950. He was a 1959 graduate of Oak Ridge High School, and received degrees in history and political science from the University of North Carolina in 1964. After graduation, he toured Europe for three years, which included studies at Westminster College in England and the University of Bordeaux in France. Mr. Adams held odd jobs in Germany, Italy, England, and France, where he learned to speak fluent French. After his European tour, Mr. Adams studied French at the University of Tennessee and worked in the UT Food Service Department for 13 years. He retired from UT to help care for his parents, while periodically working at Oak Ridge Country Club, Mr. Gatti's, and most recently, Oak Ridge Floral Co. Mr. Adams was involved in political activities, including running on the democratic ticket for Knox County Commissioner, and was nominated as a candidate in a congressional primary in 1974. His family said he could always be counted on for a lively political discussion. His family said he was involved in community activities, with particular acknowledgment to his special Oak Ridge friends and his Sunday Lunch Club. His family said he enjoyed classical music, opera, theater, reading, and writing. He never stopped learning, studying, and helping others, his family said. Mr. Adams is survived by five sisters, Mary Klipple and husband, Gary, of Silver Spring, Md., and Knoxville, Virginia Harrow and husband, Douglas, of Atlanta, Ga., Betsy Fabry and husband, Paul, of New Orleans, La., Sharon Moore and husband, Dan, of Norris, and Barbara Adams of Carbondale, Colo.; and by two brothers, David Adams and wife, Maurean, of Hendersonville, N.C. and Gerald Adams of Oak Ridge. He is also survived by 15 nieces and nephews, David Adams, Andrew Adams, Aimee Adams, Michael Adams, Joseph Adams, Drew Adams, Brynn Adams, Autumn Adams, Adam Klipple, Robin Klipple, Rob Harrow and Sharon Harrow Sones, Hannah Moore, Kristin Moore and Brenna Moore. China Hoban, Ivory Melas, and their brother, Michael Thor are considered special friends. A funeral Mass will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, June 12, 2003, at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 11 at Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home. Lois Redmond Dice, 73, of Knoxville, died Saturday, June 7, 2003, at Fort Sanders Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville. Born Dec. 29, 1929, in Sweetwater, she was the daughter of Claude and Willie Mae Richesin Redmond, both now deceased. Ms. Dice was a homemaker and a member of Robertsville Baptist Church in Oak Ridge. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Charles R. Brogdon. Ms. Dice is survived by three daughters, Debbie Winfree Humphrees of Dallas, Texas, Kim Martin McNeese and husband, Harold, of Knoxville, and Jan Saunders Guilliams of Oak Ridge; a brother, Donald Redmond and wife, Joann, of Knoxville; two sisters, Libby Brogdon of Clinton and Claudette Redmond of Atlanta, Ga.; six grandchildren, Shannon, Matthew, Tyler, Laura, Cody and Brianna; and by two great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2003, in the chapel of Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home with the Rev. Jimmy Stroud officiating. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 11, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Dennis Neil Duggins, 69, of Norris, died Monday, June 9, 2003, at the Lake City Health Care Center. Born Jan. 22, 1934 in Kewanee, Ill., he was the son of Joseph W. and Alma Ruth Lawrence Duggins, both now deceased. He was a graduate of the University of Tennessee and was a member of Norris Religious Fellowship Church. He retired from Tennessee Valley Authority. Mr. Duggins is survived by his wife, Mary Kay Thomas Duggins; three sons, Jeff Duggins and wife, Kim, of Marietta, Ga., Kevin Duggins and fiancée, of St. Louis Park, Minn., and David Duggins and wife, April, of Minot, N.D.; and by four grandchildren, Thomas Duggins and Andrew Duggins of Marietta, Matthew Duggins of High Wycombe, England, and Kieran Duggins of Minot. He is also survived by two sisters, Barbara Shelton of Norris and Mary Kay Jennings and husband, Bill, of Pisgah Forest, N.C.; a brother, Dick Duggins and wife, Sandy, of Ferndale, Mich.; and by several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at a later date by the family. Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton is in charge of arrangements. Herbert "Dale" Shelton, 42, of Claxton, died Sunday, June 8, 2003, at home after a lengthy battle with cancer. Born May 27, 1961, in Knoxville, he was the son of Mary Jo Shelton of Knoxville and Herbert Shelton of Claxton. Mr. Shelton was a Baptist and worked 20 years for his father at Shelton Produce. His family said he had many friends. In addition to his mother and father and wife, Fran, Mr. Shelton is survived by his wife, Kim Shelton, and by four children, Jessica Shelton and Jeremy Shelton, both of Claxton, Julie Allen and husband, Kenny, and Johnny Shelton and wife, Kim, all of Morristown. He is also survived by two sisters, Debbie Wooten and husband, David, of Knoxville, and JoAnn Wilson of Corryton; two nieces, Ara Wooten and Carly Wilson; a nephew, Noah Wooten; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Debbie and Harold Gilreath; two brothers-in-law and their families; and by several aunts, uncles and cousins. Tammy Garner, Gary Hobbs, Keith Walker and Brittany Allen are considered special friends. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2003, in the chapel of Woodhaven Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens on Edgemoor Road in Powell, with the Rev. Henry Brown and the Rev. Charles Riggs officiating. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, at Lynnhurst Cemetery in Knoxville. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Samuel Kenneth Duncan, 71, of Knoxville, died Saturday, June 7, 2003, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. James Madix, 76, of Oak Ridge, died Tuesday, June 10, 2003, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
