Adkins age 79 of Jacksboro passed away Wednesday, Jan. 21, at his home. He was a member of Faithway Assembly of God Church where he was also a Sunday School Teacher. He was also a member of New Albany, IN Masonic Lodge and a WWII Veteran. Survivors include his wife, Elsie Adkins of Jacksboro, daughter, Brenda Newkirk of Jacksboro; son, Michael Adkins and wife, Katie of Chattanooga; grandchildren, Carlie Adkins of Chattanooga, Aimee and Joshua Cahill of Jacksboro, Andrew and Jill Newkirk of North Carolina, great granddaughter, Aubree Cahill of Jacksboro; sister Imogene Johnson of Texas; brother, Glen Adkins of Kentucky; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were Jan. 23. at Faith way Assembly of God Church with Rev. Steve Bruce officiating. Interment was in Adkins Cemetery in Scott County with military honors conducted by the Campbell County Honor Guard. Walters Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Ira L. Ayers, of Cantonsville, a former longtime resident of Woodstock died of pnuemonia, Dec. 31 at St. Elizabeth Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Baltimore. He was 90. He was born Nov. 14, 1913 in Pioneer. He was a railroad brakeman for Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad and a farmer. He was a member of the Crossroads Church of the Nazarene in Ellicott City and enjoyed vegetable gardening according to family members. He lived in Woodstock for 53 years and more recently resided at Lifespring Assisted Living Center in Catonsville. Preceded in death by his brothers, Addison Ayers, William Bill Ayers; sisters, Rose Jordan and Hannah Chadwell. Survivors include his wife, Helen L. Ayers, Life Springs Assisted Living Center in Catonsville; son, Dennis L. Ayers, Ellicott City; daughters, Carol McAndrew, Catonsville and Annette Viellette, Pasadena; sisters, Mary Myers and Geneva Collingsworth, both of LaFollette and Aileen Huckaby, Cincinnati; brother, Thomas Ayers, LaFollette; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services were Jan. 5 at Harry H. Witzke's Family Funeral Home in Ellicott City. Interment was in Crestlawn Memorial Gardens in Ellicott City. Witzke's Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Mark Garfield Baird, age 86, of LaFollette died Jan. 23 at St. Mary's Medical Center of Campbell County. He was a retired Captain from the LaFollette Fire Department, former Campbell County Constable, Veteran of WWII and was of the Baptist faith. Preceded in death by his wife, Pernie Baird in 1990; parents, Millard and Ollie Baird; brothers, Milford, Monroe and John Baird; sisters, Nannie Chapman, Cynthia Risden and Irene Baird. Survivors include his daughter, Janet Thornton, Judy Baird and Brenda Roach all of LaFollette; stepsons, Ray Ayers, LaFollette and Bobby Queener, New Orleans, La; eight grandchildren, one step grandson and 11 great grandchildren; brother, Harry Baird, LaFollette; special friend, Elmer Fraley; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were Jan. 24 at Walters Chapel with Rev. Terry Wells and Rev. Charles Jack Goins officiating. Buhl, age 66 of Montville Township, Oh formerly of LaFollette died Jan. 20 at the UHHS Geauga Regional Hospital in Claridon Township, Oh. He was a member of New Beginnings Christian Fellowship Church in Mentor and was a US Navy Veteran. He was a University of Kentucky wildcats sports fanatic, a skilled craftsman and enjoyed woodworking. He was a very patient, loving, giving and most unselfish man who lived for his family. He was a plant manager for Mobil Oil Corp in Cleveland for 29 years before his retirement in 1994. Preceded in death by his first wife, Eleanor L. Buhl; parents, Homer and Imogene Buhl. Survivors include his wife Jean McCauley Buhl; daughters and sons-in-law, Becky and Ron Mann, Edie and Joseph Galiardi, all of Mentor; grandchildren, Eric Kinney, Gabrielle Galiardi and Olivia Giliardi; stepson, Robbie McCauley, Mentor, step-son and wife, David and Teresa McCauley; step-grandchildren, Brittany, Kayla, Matthew, Chad, Marcus, Brittany, Cory and Cierra; brother, Harold Buhl, Cincinnati, Oh; brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald and Nadine Buhl, Elizabeth Town, Ky, Hobert Jr. and Connie Buhl, Eastlake,Oh; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Frank Alguer, Greenville, NC, Gloria and Paul Caldwell, Vinegrove, Ky; several nieces, nephews and a host of other friends and relatives. Wreva Elizabeth Cornett, age 89 of 235 East Village Circle, Lafollette, died Jan. 20 at the St Mary's Medical Center of Campbell County, LaFollette, TN. She was of the Baptist faith and was a retired employee of the State of Indiana. Survivors include her sons, Gerald "Jerry" Cornett, Columbus, IN, Jimmy Cornette, Niceville, FL, Roger Cornette, Fairoaks, CA; daughters, Shirley Kirby, North Vernon, IN, and Gail Simpson, Shelbyville, IN ;brother Hugh Bowman, Jr. Speedwell, TN; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and many relatives and friends. Della Welch Huddleston, age 80 of Athens died Jan. 23 at her home. A native of LaFollette, she was the daughter of the late Seth Edgar and Tina Bowman Welch. She was an active member of Central Baptist Church. Preceded in death by her husband, John R. Huddleston, Jan. 5, 1993, sister, Reva Lamb; brothers, Bob, Bill and Phillip Welch. Timothy Aaron Jordan, born September 25, 1985 died Jan. 24 at the age of 18. He was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized June 1, 1997. He was a senior at Campbell County High School. He was loved by all that knew him. He was a member of the high school Beta Club, Spanish Club, and was on the Cougar Baseball Team for all four years. He was a loving son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend to all.Preceded in death by his loving grandmother: Frances Jordan. Janet Jones, age 66 of Jacksboro died January 26, 2004 at the U. T. Medical Center in Knoxville. She was a member of the Mt. Paran Baptist Church. She was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Preceded in death by her husband: Dorsel Jones; parents: Raymond and Edith Wilson; brother: Doyle Wilson and sister: Ruth Chittwood. Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Greg and Teresa Jones of Hillsboro, OH, Richard and Joyce Jones of Jacksboro; grandchildren, Amy and Ben Jones of Hillsboro, Oh, Cody and Kahla Jones of Jacksboro; brothers: Jack Wilson of Dayton, OH; Fred Wilson of Miamisburg, OH; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Elva Shoun Morton, of Jellico, died Jan. 21 at Knoxville. She died after a long illness with family at her side. She was born Feb. 6, 1913 in the Demory Community of Campbell County. For the past four years she had lived with her daughter and son-in-law, Reta and J. Will Jones, at 2780 Woodlawn Church Road, Lenior City. She was a member of the Jellico United Methodist Church. She taught school in Campbell County and retired as Guidance Counselor of Jellico High School. She lived a full and active life in Campbell County. During her teaching career she was involved in many educational organizations. She had also been an active member of the Republican Party and was a charter member of the Campbell County Republican Women. She had a Bachelor of Arts degree in education and a Master of Science degree in school counseling from the University of Tennessee. She was married to the late Hoyt Morton. Survivors include her children, Roger Morton and his wife, Gayle, Chattanooga, John Morton and wife Patti, Fort Myers, Fl, Sharon Morton, Clinton; grandchildren, Nancy J. Pierce, Buddy Jones, Ken Jones, M'Shelle Brewer, Leigh Ann Pickens, Lula Morton, Eileen McAfee, Theresa Woods, Angela Marlow, Lynn Chitwood, Paul Chitwood and Dana Chitwood; twenty three great grandchildren; siblings, Ada Heatherly, Orlando, Fl, Irene Robinette, Morganton, NC, and Rev. J.L. Shoun, LaFollette; several nieces, nephews, and friends. He was a devoted Christian man who loved his church. Preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Dupuy Shoun; parents, Webster and Mazie Weaver Shoun; sister, Miriam Littner.
