She was the daughter of George and Clara Miller. A lifelong resident of Shady Valley, her family said she was known for her gardening and craft skills. She was an accomplished quilter and particularly enjoyed growing and arranging flowers. Prior to her retirement, she worked with her husband for many years in several small businesses that they owned. For more than 50 years, she was an active member of the Shady Valley Presbyterian Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Argus Blevins, and by a son, Ralph Blevins. Mrs. Blevins was survived by two daughters, Louise Dunlap and husband, Julian, of Oak Ridge and Kathleen Britts and husband, Ramon, of Fairfax Station, Va.; four grandchildren, Leigh Dunlap of Alexandria, Va., Lynn Dunlap and husband, Moses DeMello, of Asheville, N.C., Jennifer Britts Connors of Vienna, Va., and Eric Britts of Fairfax Station; two great-grandchildren, Hannah Demello and Matthew Demello, both of Asheville; two brothers, Aster Miller of Huntsville, Ala., and Avery Miller of Piney Flats; and by one sister, Izetta Triplett of Bluff City. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, at Shady Valley Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Tom Peake officiating. Billie Ruth Cole Boyd, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004. She was born in Honaker, Va., on Aug. 15, 1929, the daughter of Bradley Paul and Minnie Bell Cole. She graduated from high school in Richlands, Va., in 1947, and has been a resident of the Knoxville area since 1952. According to her family, she was active in youth sports, PTA, and school and community activities in the Farragut and Karns communities, and attended the Presbyterian church although raised in the Baptist church. She was later employed as manager of the Nancy Lynn Fashions clothing stores in Oak Ridge and Powell. Afterward, she cared for the elderly and infirm, and finally was an employee of Brinks Security Systems. Her family said, she loved life and loved her children more. She could have been anything she set her mind to be but instead married, settled down, had five children and made a home that welcomed any and all who showed up on her doorstep. She enjoyed music and travel, dancing and laughter, and was always prepared for the unexpected joke or prank from her children. She was preceded in death by her second child, Susan Elaine Boyd, and by her brother, John P. Cole. She is survived by a daughter, Beverly Boyd Williams, of Knoxville; a son and daughter-in-law, L. H. Boyd Jr. and Suzie Boyd, of Oliver Springs; a daughter, Ann Ellen Boyd, of Oak Ridge; and a son and daughter-in-law, Daniel J. Boyd and Kimberly F. Boyd, of Knoxville; a sister and brother-in-law, Patricia C. Jones and James Jones, of Bluefield, Va.; a sister-in-law and husband Jerry Cole Yearout and Bob Yearout, of Blacksburg, Va.; and a brother and sister-in-law, B.P. Cole and Marion Cole of Anderson, S.C. Joyce Packer of Knoxville was considered a special friend and companion in later years. Her family said she will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by family and friends alike. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004, at Weatherford Mortuary. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the mortuary. Frank Anthony Cappiello Sr., 76, of Oak Ridge, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004, at Lake City Health Care. He was born March 27, 1927, in Bronx, New York, to Frank and Mae Cappiello. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and an avid supporter of the Boys Club of Oak Ridge. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mr. Cappiello is survived by his wife of 45 years, Jane Cappiello; two sons, Frank Anthony Cappiello Jr. and wife, Lori, of Powell, and Michael James Cappiello and wife, Tricia, of Newport News, Va.; a daughter, Ann Marie Yates and husband, Les, of Kingston; sisters, Irene D'Ambrosio and husband, Leonard of Bronx, and Otella Stahley of Las Vegas, Nev.; and by three grandchildren, Marsha Yates of Murfreesboro, and Dawn Cappiello and Ashlyn Michelle Cappiello, both of Newport News. A graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday at Weatherford Mortuary. Robert Duncan, 53, of Oliver Springs, died, Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Born July 15, 1950, in Anderson County, he was the son of Grover Lindies Duncan and Dorothy Gertrude Duncan Patterson. He was a lifelong resident of this area and worked in construction as a builder. He was a Baptist. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Louis McKinley Duncan, and a sister, Mary Jane Duncan. Mr. Duncan is survived by three daughters, Hollie Kindred and husband, Vincent Silvey, of Oliver Springs, Dorothy Jean Ervin of Oliver Springs, and Brenda Lee Kowalski and husband, Russell, of Wartburg; three brothers, J.D. Hunter and Dallas Patterson, both of Oliver Springs, and Grover Duncan of Clinton; three sisters, Martha Patterson and Shirley Lloyd, both of Oliver Springs, and Helen Bumgardner, of Clinton; and by nine grandchildren. The funeral will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16, 2004, in the chapel of Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs with the Rev. Terry Spanky Braden officiating. Marie Muller, 90, of Oak Ridge, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004, at The Estates of Oak Ridge, of complications of congestive heart failure. She was born June 6, 1913, in Holle, Germany, the daughter of Hermine and Wilhelm Vasterling. In her late-teen years, she worked as a homemaker for a prominent Lutheran pastor's family in Hildesheim. In 1936, she married Henry Muller of Ringstedt. They moved to Weissenfels in 1938, where she worked for a dairy company. They fled East Germany with their two daughters in 1946 to Henry Muller's boyhood home in the West. In 1950, she immigrated with her family to Brooklyn, New York. It was there she learned the confectionery business at the store of her sister-in-law and spouse. The focal point of her life was her family. The Mullers purchased their first business in New York City in 1954. They then moved to Long Island, where they bought a second ice cream parlor/luncheonette. Their store was recognized for its excellent chocolate-Easter confections and lunch trade. Mrs. Muller retired with her husband from business in 1974 and moved to Whiting, N.J. She was an avid vegetable gardener who shared her produce with the entire neighborhood. She enjoyed making ceramic crafts which still decorate her families' homes. Mrs. Muller and her spouse moved to Oak Ridge on March 15, 2000, to The Estates of Oak Ridge. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years in September 2002 Mrs. Muller is survived by her daughters, Sigrid Ludemann and her husband, Carl, of Oak Ridge, and RoseMarie Johnson of Whiting, N.J.; four grandchildren, Donald Ludemann and his wife, Debra, of St. Paul, Minn., Carol Lude-mann Barcus and her husband, John, of Huron, Ohio, Eva Johnson Oliver and her husband, Thomas, of Chester, N.H., and David Johnson of Austin, Texas; and four great-grandchildren, Colin Barcus of Notre Dame, Ind., Matthew Barcus and Geoffrey Barcus, both of Huron Ohio, and Heather Oliver of Chester N.H. Mrs. Muller was preceded in death by a brother, Ewald Vasterling, and a sister, Herta Klussmann, and is survived by sisters, Elfriede Domhöver and Brunhilde Wege, both of Germany. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004, at Grace Lutheran Church with the Rev. Stephen Damos officiating. Weatherford Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Geneva Rains, 87, of Clinton, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004, at Harriman Care and Rehab Center. Prior to her illness she worked for Park Hotel for 35 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Maggie Rains, and by a sister, Mary Buck. She is survived by her son, Carl Rains, of Harriman; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and by several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004, at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. Joe Bridges officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery in Clinton. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Joseph Michael "Mike" Sawicki, 54, formerly of Oak Ridge, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004, at his home in Paducah, Ky. Born October 27, 1949, in Oak Ridge, he was the son of Joseph and Betty Jo Graham Sawicki, by whom he is survived, of Oak Ridge. He was a 1968 graduate of Oak Ridge High School. Mr. Sawicki was a welder and recently retired from the U.S. Enrichment Corp. He began his career in Oak Ridge working at both the Y-12 Plant and the former Oak Ridge Gaseous Diffusion Plant. He was transferred to Paducah several years ago. He is a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. He enjoyed traveling, especially on the ocean and spent a lot of time on wind jamming. He enjoyed sports of all kinds, especially golf, bowling and water skiing, and was an avid VOL fan. In addition to his parents, Mr. Sawicki is survived by his brother, David Graham Sawicki, of Greeneville; his sister, Sandy Snyder and her husband, Dr. Paul Snyder Jr., of Chattanooga; his aunts, Eva Sawicki of Wilmington Del., and her family, and Peggy Davis of Clinton; a cousin, Gwynn Davis, of Clinton; a nephew, Paul Snyder III and wife, Jennifer, of Sterling, Va.; a niece, Reneé Everhart and husband, Todd, of Bristol; and two grandnephews, Toby Jacob Snyder and Daniel Todd Everhart. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 19, 2004, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. Michael Woods officiating. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. "Trucky" Walden Jr., 79, of Lake City, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2 004, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Knoxville. He was a member of Island Ford Baptist Church in Lake City, where he served as trustee and superintendent of Sunday School. He retired from Oak Ridge National Laboratory after 33 years of employment and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He loved to do woodworking and making placemats, his family said. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Hannah, a great-grandson, Rylan McCall Swanner, his parents, William Walter and Nannie Douglas Walden, and a sister, Mildren Pumphrey. Mr. Walden is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Harmon Walden; two daughters, Janet Webb of Lake City, and Dianna Sue Childs and husband, Roger Leon, of Clinton; and two sons, Walter "Buddy" Walden and wife, Dianne, of Clinton, and Gary Walden and wife, Linda, of Heiskell. He is also survived by three sisters, Della Mae Laymon and husband, Jason, of Front Royal, Va., Bernice Newlon and husband, Charles, of Glen Easton, W. Va.; and Lynn Frittrow and husband, Ronald, of Jacksonville, Fla.; four brothers, Bob Walden and wife, Harriett, of Clinton, Mo., Carl Walden and wife, Thelma, of Lake City, Don Walden of Clinton, and Paul Walden and wife, Gerry, of Dayton, Ohio; and by 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and several other relatives and friends. Pearl Webber, 93, of Oak Ridge, and formerly of Lake City, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004, at NHC HealthCare of Oak Ridge. Born Sept. 24, 1910, in Campbell County, she was the daughter of Charles and Belle Adkins. She was a member of Black Oak Baptist Church in Clinton. She enjoyed cooking, quilting and especially loved making Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls, her family said. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Webber, a son, Dwain Webber, and a grandson, David B. Webber. Mrs. Webber is survived by two sons, Charles Boyd Webber and wife, Doris, of Oak Ridge, and Clarence Jr. and wife, Colleen Webber, of Florida; a daughter-in-law, Judith Webber of Georgia; and eight grandchildren, Lisa Webber, Mark Webber, Laura Mickelson, Melissa Furr, Katherine Lawrence, Donna Jaskiernia, Cheryl Schiever and Dana Webber. She is also surived by a brother and his wife, Ulis and Lola Adkins; and a sister, Naomi Roddy, all of Lake City; and by 14 great-grandchildren. The funeral was held Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004, in the chapel of Hatmaker Funeral Home in Lake City. Her grandchildren, Mark Webber and Lisa Webber, said a eulogy. Burial was held Thursday, Jan. 15, at Oak Grove Cemetery in Lake City. Helen Peak Fultz, 81, of Oak Ridge, died Friday, Jan. 16, 2004, at Briarcliff Health Care Center.
