    3. Good thinking Debbie, I think that there were two different James Slavens: one (#1) married Nancy and had kids Jasper, Polly, Susanna, etc. and the second James (#2) married Emily and had kids Flora, Ruby, Jessie, etc. James #1: Unknown father and mother. Married Nancy 1860 age: 20, living with wife Nancy. 1900 census birth date: Jan 1852 or 1842 or 1848? Lists father from Kentucky; mother from Tennessee in censuses. Died in Scott County Tennessee? James #2: Father: Absalom Slaven from Kentucky. Mother: Elizabeth Betty Woods from North Carolina (2 out of 4 censuses). 1860 age: 19, living with father Absalom and mother Elizabeth. 1900 census birth date: Mar 1841. Moved to Mitchell County Kansas where he married Emily Williams. Died in Mitchell County Kansas Feb 14, 1923. Lists father from Kentucky or Tennessee. Lists mother from North Carolina. 1910 census indicates Emily was 1st marriage (so never married a Nancy?). The above is just a sketch of the census information and the way I see it. There are many discrepencies between census years. If anybody wants the census links or other info, just ask. Mel King ----- Original Message ----- From: Debbie Reymolds To: TNSCOTT-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Wednesday, January 21, 2004 4:18 PM Subject: [TNSCOTT] Slaven Every where I look I see Nancy Stephens (daughter of Edmond) married to James Anderson Slaven(son of Absalom Slaven and Elizabeth Woods). There are several problems with this. 1. The biggest problem is that James can't be in 2 places at once. Abs son is still at home in the 1860 Scott Co TN census. James and Nancy are listed in their own household in the same census. 2. Everyone shows James divorced Nancy and married someone else. Yet James and Nancy are together in every census until 1920 which shows Nancy as widowed. 3. Everyone shows James died in KS. How could he have died in KS when he died in Scott Co? 4. I believe there were 2 James A or Andrew Slaven's. I believe the records of both of them are credited to one of them. Any Opinions? 3. No Debbie. I can't find the right Absalom anywhere in the 1850 census (search everywhere or browse Scott Co). Also, haven't found James #2 in 1870.
