Brewer, 77, of Morristown, died Friday, Jan. 23, 2004, at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville. She was a member of Manley Baptist Church and a retired Hamblen County school teacher. She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Brewer; her parents, Prior Tipton Livesay and Mary Campbell Livesay; and by a sister, Nell Green. Mrs. Brewer is survived by her son, Terry Brewer and wife, Brenda, of Oak Ridge; her grandson, Sean Brewer and wife, Jenny, of Knoxville; two great-grandchildren, Evan Brewer and Abby Brewer, both of Knoxville; two brothers, Dennis Livesay and wife, Eileen, and Douglas Livesay and wife, Pat, all of Maryville; two sisters, Kate Berdolt and husband, John, of Oak Ridge and Lois Reiniche of Knoxville; a brother-in-law, Henry Brewer and wife, Lucille, of Sneedville; and by a sister-in-law, Dora Turnmire, of Sneedville. The funeral was Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004, at Manley Baptist Church with the Rev. Richard Emmert officiating. A graveside service was Sunday, Jan. 25, in Jarnagin Cemetery. The family requests that any memorials be in the form of contributions to Manley Baptist Church. Westside Chapel Funeral Home in Morristown was in charge of arrangements. Becka Russell Heydel, 70, of Oliver Springs, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004, at her home. Born April 29, 1933, in Coalfield, she was the daughter of John William and Ollie Jarnighan Russell. She was a lifelong resident of East Tennessee, a homemaker and member of Beech Park Baptist Church in Oliver Springs. Mrs. Heydel is survived by her husband, Kenneth L. "Bones" Heydel; two daughters, Victoria Moncier and husband, David, of Oliver Springs, and Lisa Jones of Weston, Fla.; two sons, Stephen Heydel of Knoxville and Russell Heydel and wife, Tosha, of Oliver Springs; and two grandchildren, Eric Moncier of Oliver Springs and Jessie Jones of Weston. She is also survived by a brother, R.B. Russell of Oliver Springs; five sisters, Arvana Helton and husband, Bobby, and Elizabeth "Shorty" Baker and husband, Joe, all of Coalfield, Betsy McGhee and husband, Eugene, of Oliver Springs, and Lois "Tiny" Foster and Steva Lane Russell, both of Oak Ridge; and by a special friend, Cathy Hilton of Oak Ridge. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, John William "Junior" Russell Jr., Kenneth Russell, Willis Russell, Linnis Russell and Lewis Russell. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26, 2004, in the chapel of Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs with the Rev. Robbie Leach officiating. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, at Estes Cemetery in Coalfield. The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to Beech Park Baptist Church, 606 Butler Mill Road, Oliver Springs, TN 37840. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Chandler Paul King, 90, of Powell, died Friday, Jan. 23, 2004, at Windwood Health and Rehab Center in Clinton, two days shy of his 91st birthday. As a boy he attended and was a member of Black Oak Baptist Church. After moving to Clinton, he attended churches in Clinton and for the past 60 years he attended Moore's Gap United Methodist Church. As a young man, he worked at Magnet Mills in Clinton and then in Norfolk Navy Yard until he was called to serve in World War II, where he was aboard the L.S.T. 544. After being discharge from the Navy, Mr. King worked for the East Tennessee Oil Co. until he and his brother-in-law, Elba Jeffers, bought a service station in the Claxton area. He owned and operated a Gulf station in Oak Ridge for 25 years until he retired. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles L. and Rosa Katherine Shinlever King, and by four sisters and six brothers. Mr. King is survived by his wife of 60 years, Maude Brooks King; his daughter, Margaret Burroughs and husband, Harry D., of Chattanooga; his grandson, Eric Foster Burroughs, of Knoxville; and by two granddaughters, Shannon Marie Burroughs of Knoxville, and Chelsea Elyce Burroughs of Chattanooga. He is also survived by three sisters-in-law, Grace Walker and husband, Obern, and Virginia B. Crow, all of Clinton, and Betty Mosteller and husband, Bobby, of Chatsworth, Ga.; a brother-in-law, J. Will Brooks, of Clinton; and by several nieces, nephews and friends. The funeral was Sunday, Jan. 25, 2004, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. Lee Cate and the Rev. William Hedrick officiating. Burial was to be at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26, at Sunset Cemetery in Clinton with full military rites. Hence Mitchell Sr., 85, of Oliver Springs, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 2004, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Born Feb. 14, 1918, in Anderson County, he was the son of Sam Mitchell Sr. and Florida Rigney Mitchell. He was a lifelong resident of the area. Mr. Mitchell retired from Union Carbide at the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant as a material handler after working 30 years. He was a member of Black Oak Baptist Church. He also served the city of Oliver Springs as a council member from 1983 to 1985. According to his family, his hobbies were gardening and politics. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Hence Mitchell Jr. and Ellis Douglas Mitchell; two brothers, Dave Mitchell and Joe Mitchell; and by two sisters, Lillie Disney and Marybelle Mitchell. Mr. Mitchell is survived by his wife of 61 years, Louella Goodman Mitchell; three daughters, Barbara Tucker and husband, Archer, Brenda Jones and husband, Steve, and Debbie Green, all of Oliver Springs; and by three sons, Steve Mitchell and wife, Liz, of Kingston, Dennis Mitchell and wife, Robin, of Arlington, Texas, and Gary Mitchell of Ten Mile. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, Leslie Kendrick, Liesha Richardson and Paige Moore, all of Dayton, Ohio, Steven Mitchell and Chad Mitchell, both of Kingston, Melissa Collins, Steve Jones Jr., Nicholas Green and Shawn Green, all of Oliver Springs, Amanda Thompson, Rodney Mitchell and Joshua Mitchell, all of Texas, and Natachia Mitchell, Weston Mitchell and Loren Mitchell, all of Clinton; 21 great-grandchildren; a brother, Sam Mitchell Jr., of Akron, Ohio; and by several nieces, nephews, extended family members and specials friends, Mary Greer, Becky Morgan and Mack Green, all of Oliver Springs. Janice Marie McCain Martin, 41, of Hopkinsville, Ky., formerly of Oak Ridge, died Friday, Jan. 23, 2004, at Jennie Stuart Medical Center in Hopkinsville following an illness. Born Nov. 29, 1962, she was the daughter of John Brandon and Laverne Osborne McCain, of Hopkinsville. She was a native of Christian County. She was retired from the Marine Corps and served for 10 years. She also was retired from the U.S. Postal Service. She was preceded in death by her brother, John Gary McCain, in 1999. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her daughter, Megan Martin, of the home; two brothers, James McCain, of California and Robert McCain of Hopkinsville; four sisters, Jackie Jones, of Crofton, Ky., Lynn LaGasse, of New York, Darlene McCain and Carol McCain, both of Hopkinsville. The funeral was Sunday at Hughart and Beard Funeral Home in Hopkinsville with the Rev. Danny Belcher officiating. Burial was at Green Hill Memorial Gardens. Frank C. Musselwhite, 56, of Coalfield, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville. Born Nov. 15, 1947, in Hobbs, N.M., he was the son of Powell D. Musselwhite and Cassie Woods Musselwhite. He had lived in East Tennessee since childhood. Mr. Musselwhite was a disabled electrician who worked at the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. His family said his hobbies were his tractor and his horses. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a half brother, Marvin Musselwhite. Mr. Musselwhite is survived by his wife, Annette Musselwhite; two daughters, Angie Hunter and husband, Jimmy, of Oliver Springs, and Kristi Musselwhite of Coalfield and special friend, Shawn Vickery, of Oliver Springs; and by his granddaughter, Cheyenne Hunter, of Oliver Springs. He is also survived by a brother, Wayne Musselwhite and wife, Wilma, of Mobile, Ala.; two sisters, Sharon Woods and husband, Chet, of Paducah, Ky., and Gay Nell Musselwhite of Coalfield; special friends, Teddy and Phyllis Basler, of Coalfield; and by several nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and special friends. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Coalfield with the Rev. Todd Hardin and the Rev. Mack Smith officiating. Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs is in charge of arrangements. Vaughn Walter Ownby, 75, of Clinton, died Friday, Jan. 23, 2004, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Born March 5, 1928, in Jefferson County, he was the son of Willard and Iva Davis Ownby. Mr. Ownby was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army. He retired in 1985 from Oak Ridge National Laboratory, where he was a carpenter. He was a member of Robertsville Baptist Church, the Alpha Masonic Lodge No. 376 in Clinton, Knoxville Scottish Rite and Kerbela Temple in Knoxville. According to his family, he was an avid gardener, woodworker, knife and stamp collector and fisherman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, David Vaughn Ownby, in 1969, and by a half-brother, Doyle Ownby, of Sevierville, in 2003. Mr. Ownby is survived by his wife of 22 years, Collene Prewett Ownby; his son, C. Steven Ownby and wife, Margie, of Clinton; his daughter, Karen Barry and husband, Charles, of Clinton; and by his stepmother, Ivalee Ownby, of Sevierville. He is also survived by two sisters, Ruby Peace and husband, Carl, of Clinton and Alta Smith of Stargate, Fla.; his half sister, Mabel Ellis, of Sevierville; three half brothers, Jack Ownby and wife, Sue, Raymond Ownby and wife, Louise, and Ronnie Ownby, all of Sevierville; three grandchildren, Shannon Watkins and husband, Nathan, of Apopka, Fla., and David Ownby and Carisa Ownby, both of Clinton; and by several nieces and nephews, who were very special to him. A Masonic service will be at 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26, 2004, led by members of Alpha Lodge No. 376, at Weatherford Mortuary. The funeral will follow at 8:15 p.m. with the Rev. Michael Prince officiating. A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. Hester Brendle Smith, 93, of Madisonville, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004, at Briarcliff Health Care Center in Oak Ridge. she was the widow of Marvin Andrew Smith. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Madisonville. Mrs. Smith was a former manager of Gudger School cafeteria and was employed by Eureka Garment Co. According to her family she loved sewing, gardening and traveling. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Laura Brendle. She is survived by two daughters, Cindy Moser of Madisonville, and Lois Vandagriff and husband, Jerre, of Oak Ridge; three grandchildren, Jill Vandagriff of Dallas, Texas, Kerry Vandagriff and wife, Becky, of Powell, and Andrew Moser of Madisonville; three great-grandchildren, Renee Vandagriff, Glenn Allen Vandagriff and Logan Vandagriff, all of Powell; two sisters, Pearl Fisher of Sedro Woolley, Wash., Helen French and husband, Ward, of Olympia, Wash.; two brothers, Paul Brendle of Seatle, Wash., and Larry Brendle, of Sedro Woolley; former son-in-law, Kenny Moser, of Madisonville; and by several nieces and nephews. Audrey Patterson White, 83, of Oak Ridge, died Friday Jan. 23, 2004, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Born Dec. 27, 1920, in Anderson County, she was the daughter of William O. and Ethel Hilton Patterson. She was a lifelong resident of East Tennessee. After retiring from the Harriman Hosiery Mill she was employed at The Oak Ridger. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred Patterson and Lavancha Patterson. Mrs. Patterson is survived by her daughter, Audrey "Cookie" Murphy, of Oliver Springs; two sons, Allen White and wife, Sue, of Oliver Springs, and Freddy White and wife, Genie, of Little Rock, Ark.; a sister, Wanda "Madge" Coker, of Oliver Springs; and by six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. A graveside service was to be at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 26, 2004, at Anderson Memorial Gardens on the Oliver Springs Highway in Clinton with the Rev. Garvan Walls and the Rev.
