    2. >From the Knoxville News Sentinel 2 Jan 2004 FARQUHARSON, LOIS ANN - of Oak Ridge, HUMPHREYS, EDWIN ROBERT - age 73, a resident of Oliver Springs, and formerly of Kingston, RICE, CODY THOMAS - ========================================= FARQUHARSON, LOIS ANN - of Oak Ridge, died Thursday, January 1, 2004, at the Oak Ridge Retirement Community. She was born on February 8, 1923 in Chatham, VA., the daughter of Homer and Mamie Amos. She was a graduate of Lewis Gale Nursing School in Roanoke, VA. Lois came to Oak Ridge in 1944, as a registered nurse to work for the hospital. In 1945, she married John Farquharson who was on assignment in Oak Ridge with the Special Engineering Detachment. They lived many years in Lenoir City before moving back to Oak Ridge in 1990. Mr. Farquharson preceded her in death in 1999, after 53 years of marriage. Mrs. Farquharson was a member of First Christian Church and served the church as deacon, elder, and president of the Christian Women's Fellowship. She enjoyed many hobbies such as gardening, collecting antiques, bridge, reading, and travel. Her family said she will be remembered as a devoted loving wife and mother, and source of joy for many dear friends. She is survived by her daughter, Jo Ann King and her husband, David; two sons, George Farquharson and wife, Carol, John Amos Farquharson and his wife, Kelli; four grandchildren, Lee Ann Shelton and husband, Steve, Amy Beth Cauthorn and her husband,Skip, Courtney Farquharson, Sgt. Nathan Farquharson, USAF; two great-grandsons, Cade and Cannon Shelton. Lois is also survived by two sisters, Frances Corbin of Roanoke, VA and Hazel Crider of Chatham, VA and many nieces and nephews. Her sister Eva Mae Rose and her brother Homer J. Amos, Jr. preceded her in death. She also has two living sisters-in-law, Mary Venneman and Verna Farquharson of New York. The funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, January 3, at First Christian Church. The Rev. Jack Russell will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church Saturday following the service. A private graveside service will be held Saturday afternoon at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family requests that any memorials be in the form of gifts to First Christian Church, 203 Michigan Avenue, Oak Ridge, TN 37830. Weatherford Mortuary is handling arrangements. HUMPHREYS, EDWIN ROBERT - age 73, a resident of Oliver Springs, and formerly of Kingston, passed away Wednesday, December 31, 2003 at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Mr. Humphreys was born September 20, 1930 in Roane County. He was a lifelong resident of Roane and Anderson Counties. He was preceded in death by his parents, Taylor Blair Humphreys and Roberta Walker Humphreys; by two brothers, Gwain and Merle Humphreys and by an infant sister. He was retired from O.R.N.L. at the X-10 Plant as a fire inspector. He was a member of local labor union #818 and the Atomic Trades and Labor Council. Mr. Humphreys was a member of the Salem Baptist Church and he attended the Oliver Springs United Methodist Church. He was a 32nd Degree Master Mason and a member of the Paint Rock Masonic Lodge #367 F&AM. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite Kerbella Temple of Knoxville. Survivors: wife, Willa Humphreys of Oliver Springs; sons, Steven R. Humphreys and wife, Vicki of Tracy, Calif., Michael Humphreys and wife, Lynn of Kingston, Bryan Humphreys and wife, Anita of Knoxville; daughter, Teresa Strickland and husband, Roger V. of Kingston; step son, David J. Chamblee, Sr. and wife, Sharon of Oliver Springs; step daughter, Sally Chamblee Lovin and husband, Richard B. of Knoxville; grandchildren, Wendy Colyer, Gabe Patterson, Cortney Strickland, Garrett Strickland, Misty Newby, Aaron, Adam, Autumn, Jordan and Savannah Humphreys; step grandchildren, David Chamblee, II, Raven Chamblee, Mike Lopez and Steve Lopez; great grandchildren, Seth Colyer, Whitney Colyer, Gage Patterson, Sophia Patterson, Brantley Humphreys and Cailynn Shelley; brothers, a twin brother, Edward Humphreys and his wife, Elsie of Kingston, Walker Humphreys and wife, Jean of Philadelphia, Don Humphreys and wife, Brenda of Philadelphia, Lynn Humphreys and wife, Ruth of Philadelphia, Glen Humphreys and wife, Brenda of Philadelphia; sisters, Geraldine Shanahan and husband, Billy of Ten Mile, Janice Frisbee and husband, Marvin of Philadelphia; sister in law, Ida Humphreys of Kingston. He was also survived by several nieces and nephews, a host of friends and other extended family members. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 2, 2004 at 8 p.m. in the chapel of Sharp Funeral Home with Rev. Ted Clowers and Rev. Bobby Burton officiating. The family will receive friends Friday, between the hours of 6-8 p.m. at Sharp Funeral Home. Burial and graveside services will be held Saturday January 3, 2004 at 11 a.m. at Anderson Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association. In addition the family would like to thank the staff at Mariner Health of Norris for the loving care given to Mr. Humphreys during his illness. Sharp Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. RICE, CODY THOMAS - born on December 27, 2003 and died on December 30, 2003 at East Tennessee Children's Hospital in Knoxville. He was preceded in death by two great-grandfathers, Claude Tipton on September 18, 1987 and Milton Rice on December 12, 1974. Baby Cody is survived by his parents, Tommy and Christie Slagle Rice of Oak Ridge; and by sister, Katie Nicole Rice; his maternal grandparents, Tony and Caroll Slagle of Claxton; paternal grandparents, George and Judy Rice of Oak Ridge; maternal great- grandmother, Margie Chapman of Bowling Green, KY; paternal great-grandmother, Anne Tipton of Oak Ridge; and paternal great-grandmother, Sue Rice of Oak Ridge. Memorials may be made to East Tennessee's Children's Hospital, PO Box 15010, Knoxville, TN, 37901-5010. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2004 at Oak Ridge Memorial Park at 2:00 PM with Rev. James Lawson, Rev. Charles Rice and Bro. Robert Chapman officiating.
