Preceded in death by son, John Clark Burden. Graduate of Berea College, Ky. 1941 with a BS degree in Physics, Chemistry and Math. He worked on the Manhattan Project at Oak Ridge, Tenn. from 1942-1945. He completed the remainder of his career in Health Physics at Oak Ridge National Laboratories in Oak Ridge with retirement in 1975. Survived by wife, Leona Burden, Rockport, TX; son and wife, Earl and Linda Burden, Tulsa, Okla.; daughter, Shirley Burden McLaughlin, Ashville, NC; daughter, Mary Joyce Burden VanWechel and husband, Steve, Portland, Ore; and daughter, Jane Burden Krueger and husband, Darryl, Greenville, SC; grandchildren, Christopher Burden, Rockport, Monica Burden Burgin, Birmingham, Ala, Joseph, Makayla & Jessica VanWechel, Portland, Ore., Deanna Green Hopkins, Greenville, SC; great grandchildren, Ash and Kai Burden, Rockport, TX, John Blake Burgin, Birmingham, Ala. Mr. Burden and his wife, Leona recently moved to Rockport, TX to live with his grandson, Chris & Tonia Burden. Previously they lived in the Claxton Community for 60 years during which their lives were enriched by their many wonderful neighbors, friends in the Knoxville area and professional colleagues in Oak Ridge. Mr. Burden will be sadly missed by all who knew him. The family will receive friends Saturday November 26th from 1-3 p.m. at the Woodhaven Mortuary, Edgemoore Rd., with funeral service at 3 p.m. Burial following in the adjacent Tennessee Valley Memorial Cemetery. BURNEY, JUNIOR HAWKINS - age 82, a resident of Oliver Springs, passed away Thursday, November 24, 2005 at the Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge. He was born December 2, 1922 in Robertson County, Tennessee. The Burney's moved to Oliver Springs in 1944. Mr. Burney was Mayor of Oliver Springs from 1967-1971, serving two terms, during the two major floods that hit this area in 1967. He was instrumental in flood control and fire protection improvements, in Oliver Springs. In addition, he was very active in serving the Oliver Springs and Blair Volunteer Fire Departments. He was a retired Captain of the K-25 Fire Department, with 40 years of service. Mr. Burney attended Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church when able and loved gospel singing. He was an avid UT Vol fan, especially the Lady Vols. He also enjoyed fishing and car racing. He was loved and respected by his family and friends. Preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Elizabeth Jackson Burney; father, Frank Albert Wyatt Burney; mother, Sarah E. James; brothers, James Burney and William Robert Burney; sister, Maxine Parker. In his early years, he was loved and cared for by his grandmother, Izzie Dora Burney. Survivors: sons, Donnie W. Burney & wife, Linda of Oliver Springs, Stanley R. Sharp Funeral Home of Oliver Springs is in charge of all the arrangements. HARVEY, VIRGINIA WESTMORELAND - 75, of Oak Ridge, died Friday, November 25, 2005 at NHC Health Care Center. She was born April 28, 1930 in Smith County. Mrs. Harvey and her husband, Thomas were married on February 1, 1948 and moved to Oak Ridge in 1952. Rather than look for a paying job, she chose the most important job of all, that of turning their little apartment into a loving home for her family. She made many friends while living in Oak Ridge. A sizeable number of them were only temporary residents from around the country. Others were from other countries, but most were permanent residents of Oak Ridge. Without trying to name all of them, the family wishes to thank each and every one of them for just being her friend. Mrs. Harvey was preceded in death by her father, her mother, Addie and brothers, David and Ralph. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Thomas Harvey; daughter, Brenda Owens and her husband Timmy of Lebanon; son, Robert Harvey and his wife Robin of Oak Ridge; grandson, Scot Owens and his wife Skylyn of Mt. Juliet; granddaughters, Paige Harvey of Oak Ridge andJill Owens of Lebanon; sisters, Betty Johnson and Linda Hopkins of Lebanon; brothers, Charles Westmoreland and Billy Joe Bowen of Algood and several nieces and nephews. JUDD, CONNIE LYNN - age 45, a resident of the Dyllis community of Roane County, passed away Wednesday, November 23, 2005 at her home. She was born October 13, 1960 in Walla-Walla, Washington, living in Oliver Springs since 1992. Connie had worked for the past 13 years at the UT Medical Center in Knoxville as a Respiratory Therapist. Preceded in death by her father, Glenn Fisher. Mrs. Wilson was a member of Cumberland View Baptist Church and was a substitute teacher for the Campbell County School System for over 40 years.
