From tjhe Oak Ridger 15 Nov 21005 James Michael "Mike" Elam, 48, of Oak Ridge, Jordan Hill, 15, of Duluth, Ga., Margaret M. Webb, 74, of Clinton, Paul Douglas Browning, 60, a resident of Oliver Springs, James Michael "Mike" Elam, 48, of Oak Ridge, died on Monday, Nov. 7, 2005, in Los Angeles, Calif. Mike was born in Knoxville, Tenn., on July 19, 1957, to parents James Donald and Audrey Wagner Elam. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and enjoyed music, especially playing the guitar. Mr. Elam received his bachelor's degree in 1982 from the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga., his master's degree in 1987 from the University of Missouri in Columbia, Mo., and his doctorate degree in 1993, also from the University of Missouri in Columbia. He had worked as a research assistant professor in anthropology at the University of Tennessee for the last 10 years. Mike was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Aubrey J. and Dorothea Wagner; paternal grandparents, James and Betty Elam; and uncle, Karl Edward Wagner. Survivors include his parents, J. Donald and Audrey Elam of Elberton, Ga.; wife, Karla Riggle Elam of Oak Ridge; sons, Derek and Jacob Elam of Oak Ridge; brothers, Mark Elam and wife, Sharon, of Madisonville, Tenn., and Kevin Elam and wife, Mary Marcus of Los Angeles, Calif.; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, Nov. 17, 2005, at 2 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dr. Stephen Damos officiating. Interment will be at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. Memorials may be made in the form of donations to Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America, 386 Park Avenue South, 17th Floor, New York, NY 10016, or to Grace Lutheran Church, 131 West Gettysburg Ave., Oak Ridge, TN 37830. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, at Weatherford Mortuary, and also from 1 to 2 p.m. on Thursday at the church. The funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, at Duluth First Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Peachtree Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. She is survived by her father and mother, Jeff and Teresa Phillips Hill of Duluth; brother, Justin Hill of Duluth; paternal grandmother, Mary Hill of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; maternal grandmother, Inela Phillips of Oliver Springs; aunts and uncles, Bryan and Missy Phillips of Nashville, Linda and Galen Link of Merritt Island, Fla., and Scott and Lisa Hill of Maryville; cousins, Austin Link, Haley Hill, Faith Phillips and a very special cousin, Victoria Link. Jordan was a sophomore at Peachtree Ridge High School. She was a recreation league cheerleader and played softball at Shorty Howell Park.
