Pickrell, 71, of Oak Ridge, Neil Barnhart Schultz, 85, of Oak Ridge, Frederick Archie Robertson, 80, Harold Hoyt Abee, 83, of Shannondale of Maryville, formerly of Oak Ridge, entered the glorious presence of his heavenly Father on Oct. 31, 2005, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Born Dec. 14, 1921, to Roscoe and Celeste Abee in Hickory, N.C., Mr. Abee graduated from Lenior Rhyne College with a bachelor's degree in chemistry in 1943, and a master's in Industrial Management from UT in 1962. From 1943 to 1945, he served as a Naval Aviation Cadet and Pilot and served as a PBY instructor in Pensacola, Fla. In 1946, Mr. Abee began his career as a health physicist at ORNL. He also acted as a monitoring director for the Pacific Weapons Test Series of the thermonuclear bomb at the Eniwetok Atoll in the Marshall Islands in 1952. As charter member of the Health Physics Society, in 1964 Mr. Abee presented the by-laws at the first meeting of the International Health Physics Society in Paris, France. He received the Elda E. Anderson Award for invaluable contribution to the establishment of the International Radiation Protection Association in 1967. In 1972, Mr. Abee was appointed to a staff position in the Office of Health, Safety, and Environmental Affairs at Y-12, retiring in 1984 after 39 years with Union Carbide. A charter member of Grace Lutheran Church in Oak Ridge, Mr. Abee was a member of Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church in his later years. During retirement he pursued his passion for golf and with his wife traveled around the world with the Friendship Force of Knoxville. Along with a deep commitment and involvement with Emmaus Walk, he also participated with great joy in many Christian conferences. Mr. Abee is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Berenice; three daughters: Paulette and husband, Roy Aaron, of Knoxville ; Donna Abee of Boonville, Calif.; Phyllis and husband, John Dibert, of Peachtree City, Ga.; and son James Abee and wife, Lili of Berkeley Calif.; five grandchildren, Tim Bogardus, Justin Aaron and wife Jacqueline, Jonathan Aaron, Elizabeth Aaron, Ben Dibert and wife Amy, and Matt Dibert; and three great-grandchildren, George Aaron, Jaden Aaron, and Elizabeth Jane Dibert. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11, 2005, in the chapel of Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Vernon Holstad and the Rev. Dixie Petrey officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the Fellowship Hall. Family and friends will meet at Oak Ridge Memorial Park for a 3:30 p.m. interment service. Arrangements by Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel. Ermyntrude Cox Young Neff, 86, of Dandridge, Tenn., passed away on Nov. 5, 2005, at St. Mary's Hospital in Knoxville. Mrs. Neff, daughter of Roy Lee and Lillian Howell Cox, was born on Jan. 29, 1919, in Jefferson City, Tenn. Holding undergraduate and master's degrees from the University of Tennessee, she was a secondary education teacher for 37 years in the Oak Ridge School System. Following her beginning years of teaching in Bulls Gap and Strawberry Plains, she worked in Michigan during World War II at one of Edsel Ford's bomber plants. While in Oak Ridge, she taught a Sunday School class that divided three times at Central Baptist Church. Mrs. Neff was preceded in death by her parents and husbands, John Young and Harold Neff. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Neff Krause of Dandridge; cousins, Anne Howell Kitchens of Ponte Vedra, Fla., Carol Howell Lacy of Memphis, and J. V. Howell of Newport Beach, Calif. Reception of friends will begin at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2005, with the funeral to follow at 2 p.m. at Farrar Funeral Home in Dandridge. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. Arrangements by Farrar Funeral Home in Dandridge, Tenn. On November 8, 2005, Theresa C. Pickrell, 71, of Oak Ridge, passed from this life peacefully and with dignity, surrounded by family love, and in her own bed. Mrs. Pickrell was born on Jan. 22, 1934, in Canton, Ga., to parents Charles Lewis Chappelear and Inez Isabell Groves Chappelear. Theresa received her bachelor's degree from the University of Tennessee then worked at K-25 from 1955-1959. She was a teacher with the Oak Ridge School System, teaching at Linden Elementary from 1970-1993, and the last 15 years in the Special Education enrichment program for Gifted Students. Mrs. Pickrell came to Oak Ridge in 1955 from Athens, Tenn. She was a member of First Baptist Church where she was active with the Art Fellowship of First Baptist Church, and was a member of Oak Ridge Retired Teachers' Association. She was preceded in death by a sister, Charle Jean Pope of Thomaston, Ga. Survivors include her husband, Paul W. Pickrell of Oak Ridge; sons, Paul Scott Pickrell and wife, Donna of Houston, Texas, and Charles Mark Pickrell and wife, Mary Ellen of Nashville; daughters, Susan Elizabeth Ridings and husband, Gene of Canton, Ga., and Tracy Ellen Bond and husband, Nelson of Madison, Ala.; twin sister, Letha Ann Allen and husband, Ronnie of Athens; and sisters, Rose Marie Lewallen of Covington, Ga., and Kathy Weiler and husband, Steve of Oak Ridge; aunt, Myrtle Owen of Canton, Ga.; 11 grandchildren, Lauren, Garrett, and Luke Pickrell of Houston, Texas, Kathryn, Shannon, and Sara Pickrell of Nashville, Eric and Erin Bond of Madison, Ala., E.J. Neil Barnhart Schultz, 85, of Oak Ridge, died Monday, Nov. 7, 2005, at the Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. He was born April 2, 1920, in Fairfield County, Ohio, the son of George Courtwright Schultz and Leona Carolyn Barnhart Schultz. He received his elementary and high school education in Marietta, Ohio, where his father was a school teacher, and received his bachelor's degree in physics from Marietta College, class of 1941, where he was elected to Gold Key, Phi Beta Kappa and graduated cum laude. His graduate study in aeronautical engineering at Ohio State University was interrupted by World War II, in which he served four years as an Air Force pilot, including assignments in South America, Africa, England, India and China. Prior to World War II, he worked at Pan American and Northeast Airlines as a commercial pilot. >From 1945 to 1954 he was professional representative for Warren-Teed Products Company of Columbus, Ohio, detailing ethical pharmaceuticals to medical doctors, dentists and veterinarians. While at the Oak Ridge Gaseous Diffusion Plant (1954-1973), he authored several papers in the field of radiation safety, including those presented orally at Industrial Health Conferences in Gatlinburg (Film Badge Calibration Techniques; Removal of Low-Level Radioactive Wastes by a Sanitary Water Treatment process); annual meeting of the Health Physics Society in Las Vegas, Nev., ( Correlation of Uranium Alpha Surface Contamination, Air-Borne Concentrations and Urinary Excretion Rates); and the First International Radiation Protection association in Rome, Italy (Inhalation Cases of Enriched Insoluble Uranium Oxides), where he also had audience with Pope Paul VI. >From 1965 to 1973, he was superintendent of the Safety, Health Physics and Industrial Hygiene Departments at ORGDP. In addition to being a Fellow of the American Public Health Association and a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, he was a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers, the Health Physics Society and the American Industrial Hygiene Association. He has filled several offices, including president in the East Tennessee Chapter of the Health Physics Society; has been certified by both the American Board of Health Physics and the Board of Certified Safety Professionals, and is board eligible for the AIHA. In November 1973, he transferred to Y-12 as radiation safety specialist with primary responsibilities for employee education and training and health physics program evaluation. He retired in 1985 from Martin Marietta Energy Systems. Active as a counselor for Boy Scouts working on the Safety, Stamp Collecting and Atomic Energy merit badges, for a number of years, he has been a volunteer reader and member of the Executive Board of Recording for the Blind. He is also a member and deacon of the New York Avenue Church of Christ. In addition to his parents, Mr. Schultz was preceded in death by his wife Kathleen Peery Schultz, who died on Sept. 1, 2002; and sister, Betty S. Little. He is survived by son, Dr. Richard Lang Schultz and wife Barbara of Oak Ridge; daughter, Kathryn Sue Bauer and husband Mike of Little Rock, Ark.; sister, Carolyn S. Thornton of Columbus, Ohio; six grandchildren, Kristina D. Weir and husband James L. Weir Jr. of Tupelo, Miss., Dr. Wendy Rebecca Knight and husband James D. Frederick Archie Robertson, 80, died Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2005, in Irving, Texas. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served his country during World War II.
