From the Oak Ridger 4 Jan 2006 Willie Frank Kirk, age 64, of Oak Ridge, Johnnie Lee Kott, of Rochester Hills, Mich., and formerly of Oak Ridge, April Dawn Kyle , age 21, of Kingston, Anna Gunderson, of Oak Ridge, Evelyn W. King, 83, of Oak Ridge, Hermon Powers, of Clinton, Columbus Thomas, Willie Frank Kirk, age 64, of Oak Ridge, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 1, 2006, at his home after an extended illness. He was born Aug. 20, 1941, in Opelika, Ala., to the union of Willie B. and Addie Pearl Kirk, both of whom preceded him in death. He moved to Oak Ridge, Tenn., with his family during his early childhood where he grew up in Scarboro neighborhood and was a graduate of Oak Ridge High School. He later began his employment with Union Carbide Nuclear Division, where he retired with 37 years of service. Mr. Kirk was a devoted and faithful member of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church. He was very active in the music ministry and was known throughout the community for his love of singing. He was a music lover and played several instruments, including the guitar and harmonica. He was a self proclaimed jack of all trades and enjoyed building and repair projects. In addition to his parents, Mr. Kirk was preceded in death by his brother, Jimmie Andrew Kirk. He is survived by his devoted wife of 32 years, Brenda Kirk; four daughters, Letonia (Joseph) Armstrong of Knoxville, Sheila (Monty) Palmer and Tina Kirk of Nashville, and Tonya Fugate of Oak Ridge; three sons, Clarence (Angela) Threat and Michael Gibson of Oak Ridge, and Travis Kirk of Houston, Texas; 17 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Mr. Kirk is also survived by three sisters, Dorothy Lewis and Eloise Kirk of Oak Ridge, and Alberta Cole of Birmingham, Ala.; two brothers, Roy Kirk of Oak Ridge, and Randy Kirk (Wilma) of Chattanooga; two aunts, Callie Summers of Gary, Ind., and Ulene (Calvin) Pitts of Opelika, Ala., and a host of nephews, nieces, and cousins. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Georgia Tarter of Harriman; three sisters-in-law, Darlene Jennings of North Carolina, Betty Malloy of Kingston, and Denise Kirk of Cleveland, Ohio; and two brothers-in-law, Frederick Johnson of Knoxville, and Harvey Tarter of Nashville. Garfield and Berthina Porter and Robert Davis, all of Oak Ridge, Melvin Winston of Knoxville, Elder D.J. Ward of Lexington, Ky., and Phee Nelson of Knoxville were all considered special friends. Barbara Turner and Darlene Jennings were his devoted caregivers. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2006, at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church with Elder Tommie L. Mims officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. at the church prior to the funeral services. Johnnie Lee Kott, of Rochester Hills, Mich., and formerly of Oak Ridge, died Dec. 28, 2005. Born in Texas City, Texas, she received a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Texas and taught elementary school for 13-plus years, in Houston, San Antonio, Texas and Springfield, Va. An avid tennis player, bicyclist, dog and animal lover, she served in volunteer positions for various charities in Oak Ridge, Tenn., and metropolitan Detroit, Mich. She maintained a strong Christian faith and loved Bible studies and religious reflection. She also enjoyed fashion, good food, friends and family. Mrs. Kott is survived by her husband, Kevin Kott of Rochester Hills, Mich.; two sons, Jason Kott of Kailua, Hawaii, and Jonathan Kott of Rochester Hills, Mich. We remember her passion, spark, energy, assertiveness, organization, and dedication to family. At her request the remains are to be cremated and the family will have a private service. April Dawn Kyle , age 21, of Kingston, passed away Thursday, Dec. 29, 2005, at University of Tennessee Medical Center at Knoxville. She was a graduate of Midway High School. She was preceded in death a brother, John Rogers. She is survived by her parents, Donald W. and Eileen Kyle of Kingston and her birth mother, Judy Rogers. Also surviving are two brothers, Steven Kyle of Kingston and David and wife Jan Kyle of Oliver Springs; four sisters, Francis Hicks and husband Sam, Lisa Pitman and husband Jason, Jackie May and Mike Norton and Edna Allen; numerous foster storms. In accordance with April's wishes, she will be cremated. A memorial service will be 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2006, in the chapel of Brown Funeral Home, Kingston.
