From the Oak Ridger 31 Jan 2006 Robert Allan Dory, 69, of Oak Ridge, Neil Edward Johnson, age 73, Jack Knox Northcutt, 68, of Clinton, Janet Catherine "Cathi" Nye, age 47, of Knoxville, Lyman Edward O'Dell, age 52, of Taylorville, Ill. Harold Bryan Winslett, 70, of Oak Ridge, Robert Allan Dory, 69, of Oak Ridge, passed away on Jan. 29, 2006, at Methodist Medical Center. Mr. Dory was born on June 7, 1936, in St. Paul, Minn., to parents Roy William Dory and Thora Solberg Dory. He received from University of North Dakota, B.S. 1958, Phi Beta Kappa and University of Wisconsin, Ph.D. 1962 mathematical physics; particle accelerators, fusion energy. In 1964, Mr. Dory came to Oak Ridge as a research physicist at ORNL. In 1967 he married Margaret Anne Hennessy in Evanston, Ill. In 1994 he retired from a position as section head for plasma physics theory and computing in the Fusion Energy Division of Oak Ridge National Laboratory. He was a Fellow of the American Physical Society. He was an outdoor enthusiast, enjoying hiking, climbing, camping, sailing, caving, and mountaineering. He especially enjoyed family camping trips out West. Mr. Dory was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and a member of Concord Yacht Club. He was preceded in death by his father, Roy William Dory; and by sisters, Marilyn Dory Hannesson and Janna Marie Vaccarello. Survivors include his wife, Margaret of Oak Ridge; mother and sister, Thora Solberg Dory and Connie Dory Bye, both of Bismarck, N.D.; children, Amanda Dory and Dwight Gibbs of Alexandria, Va., and three grandchildren, Thora, Perry, and Lila Gibbs; Jennifer Dory and Larry Hindle of Lahaina, Hawaii, Deborah Dory of San Francisco, Calif., and Roy Dory of New Orleans, La., a student at Tulane University. The funeral service will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 327-A Vermont Ave., on Thursday, Feb. 2, 2006, at 11 a.m. with Father Michael Woods officiating. Interment will be at Anderson Memorial Gardens. The family requests that memorials be in the form of donations to St. Mary's Scholarship Program in Haiti or to Oak Ridge Public Schools Education Foundation. Neil Edward Johnson, age 73, died Jan. 14, 2006, at Sacred Heart Hospital on the Florida Emerald Coast. He was born Sept. 19, 1932, in Milwaukee, Wis., the first of Edward M. and Florence Sjogren Johnson's two children. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Richard. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Mary Jane Fink Johnson, and his children: Steven and wife Carolyn Briggs Mitchell, son, Peter; Kathryn and husband Paul Jacobson and children David and Laura; Patricia and husband Jonathan Mills and children Pamela, Daniel, Emily, Michael, and Isaac; and Robert and wife Katherine Holthaus and children Katie, Brian and Kiersten. Dr. Johnson served his profession in many areas during his 50 years as a structural engineer. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin with B.S. and M.S. degrees in civil engineering and the University of Southern California with a Ph.D. in engineering. The world of computers opened to him as a student in 1956 and they became invaluable tools as he pursued his career. He began his career in the early days of the space program at Cal Tech's Jet Propulsion Lab and later spent 15 years in Oak Ridge, Tenn., providing structural engineering services to the Department of Energy and Nuclear Regulatory Commission. In 1986 his work for Science Applications International Corporation brought him to northwest Florida where he provided structural mechanics and mechanical design support to the Strategic Defensive Initiative Program at Eglin Air Force Base. After retiring from SAIC in 1993, he and his wife founded Johnson Engineering Services, Inc., where he continued his career by providing civil and structural engineering support to local architects, engineers, contractors, financial institutions and others. Service to others was always a high priority for Dr. Johnson and throughout his career he served his church and community in many areas. An active member and past president of the Destin Rotary Club, he had over 20 years of perfect attendance. He served in several areas of the Center for Lifelong Learning and was a member of the Philharmonic Society of Northwest Florida Board of Directors. Throughout his life, he served in many positions in the United Methodist Church. While living in Tennessee, he was active at the chapter and state level of the Tennessee Society of Professional Engineers and in 1986 received the State Outstanding Service Award. A member of the National Society of Professional Engineers for over 30 years, he was a past president of the Emerald Coast Chapter of the Florida Engineering Society and served as a state director for 11 years. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Oak Ridge. A memorial service for Dr. Johnson was held on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2006, at Destin United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Destin Rotary Scholarship Fund, Inc. (P.O. Box 1171, Destin, FL 32541) or the charity of your choice. Cremains will be buried in Rienzi Cemetery, Fond du Lac, Wis., at a later date Jack Knox Northcutt, 68, of Clinton, passed away from this life on Jan. 28, 2006, after a short and courageous battle with cancer. He was a graduate of Lipscomb University and UT graduate school. He retired, after 33 years, from Ridgeview of Oak Ridge as Chief Psychiatric Social Worker. Jack was an avid golfer and UT fan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hardin "Tony" and Louise Northcutt of Alcoa; and two grandchildren, Oliver Northcutt and Melodie DeHaven. He is survived by his wife, Ouita Fay, and four children: Tim and Kathy Northcutt of Knoxville, Toni and Mike DeHaven Sr. of Ormond Beach, Fla., James Northcutt of Nashville, and Christina and Rick Collins of Nashville. "Daddy/Jack" was greatly loved by eight grandchildren: Jacquelyn, Andrew, Miranda and Aaron Northcutt, Zachary, Taylor, and Ian Collins, and Mike DeHaven Jr. He is also survived by one sister, Norma Jean and Chuck McGhee of Lynchburg, Va. Friends and family visitation will be Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2006, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary in Oak Ridge with funeral service immediately following. Interment will be Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2006, at 11 a.m. at Sherwood Memorial Gardens, Alcoa. Janet Catherine "Cathi" Nye, age 47, of Knoxville, passed away Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006, at Baptist Hospital of East Tennessee in Knoxville. She was a member of Ladies of Harley, the Oak Ridge Alliance Church, and a former member of Rainbow Girls. She was preceded in death by son, Michael Shawn Russell; mother and father, Myrtle Lee and James Thad Creasman; and brothers, Howard and J.C. Creasman. Survived by her loving family: husband, Hugh Todd Nye Jr.; sons, Jake and wife Angie Nye, Ben and wife Mechel Nye of Galloway, Ohio, Andy Nye, also of Galloway, Ohio, and Josh Nye of Knoxville; daughter, Colleen Nye of Knoxville; grandsons, Nicholas and Nathan and adopted grandson, Malachi Nye; two granddaughters, Shea and Ashlyn. Cathi also leaves sisters, Mary Alice and husband Glenn Moretz of Arlington, Texas, and Barbara Jean and husband Jerry Hammonds of Kingsport; nieces, nephews, cousins and aunts. Lyman Edward O'Dell, age 52, of Taylorville, Ill., died Jan. 29, 2006, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Danville, Ill. "Eddie," a veteran of the U.S. Navy Submarine Corps and industrial X-ray technician, had suffered a long illness. Formerly of Oak Ridge, Tenn., Eddie is survived by his mother, Mary Ruth Hogan of Taylorville, Ill.; brothers, James Richard O'Dell of Oak Ridge, Daniel Tyree O'Dell of Springfield, Tenn., Tony Kent O'Dell of Oak Ridge, David Joseph O'Dell of Knoxville, Kerry Lee Bowden of Los Angeles, Calif., and Cynthia Bowden Marshall of Knoxville. He is also survived by two children, Jasmine O'Dell of Bowling Green, Ky., and Angelique Celeste Dejournett of Titusville, Fla.; and two grandchildren, Nigel and Mason. There will be a graveside service Friday, Feb. 3, 2006, at 1 p.m. at Anderson Memorial Gardens. Harold Bryan Winslett, 70, of Oak Ridge, born Jan. 11, 1936, in Florence, Ala., passed away suddenly on Jan. 29, 2006, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Mr. Winslett was a graduate of Oak Ridge High School. After serving honorably in the Air Force for four years, he returned to Oak Ridge and worked at EG&G ORTEC for over 40 years, retiring as a nuclear products sales specialist. He was also known locally as an accomplished vocalist and musician. As a co-owner of the Back Door Pizza Parlor, he was the founding member of the original Back Door Band. Mr. Winslett was a member of the Greater Knoxville Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society, twice president of the chapter, twice Barbershopper of the Year, and area counselor for the Dixie District. He also served previously as the musical director for the Sweet Adelines. Mr. Winslett was preceded in death by his father, Joy Jefferson Winslett; and by two sisters, Margaret and Martha Faye Winslett. He is survived by his mother, Ostra Thompson Winslett; wife, Shirley Goney Winslett; as well as two sisters, Kaye Wheeler and husband Dennis and Ruth Griffin of Oak Ridge. He is also survived by son, Michael Brian Winslett and wife, Sheri of Atlanta, Ga.; daughter, Samantha W. Royster and her husband, Jim Royster of Oak Ridge; son, Kevin Lynn Winslett of Gadsden, Ala.; and daughter, Sheryl Kippenberger and husband, Tom of Nashville. Additionally, Mr. Winslett leaves behind six grandchildren, Brandon K. Bunch, Courtney Winslett, Adam Bunch, Christian Winslett, Allyse Marie Kippenberger, and Bradlee Royster. The funeral service will be held in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2006, at 8 p.m. with the Rev. Michael Johnson officiating. A graveside service will be on Thursday, Feb. 2, 2006, at 11:30 a.m. (CST) at Spring Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery in Banner, Tenn.
