He was the son of the late A.G. and Vera Baldwin. He was an active member of the First Baptist Curch of Oneida. He served as a Sunday School Teacher, Director and Trustee. He was involved in the foundation of the First Baptist Mission Church in South Oneida. He worked in the coal industry for thirty-three years; owner of Pee Wee Mining Company; owner of B & B Carpet for the last thirty years. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sister, Louise Miller; and grandson, Nathan Baldwin. He is survived by wife, Delphia Phillips Baldwin of Oneida; daughters, Doris Booher and husband Ronnie of Dalton, GA., Reecia Harrell and husband George of Jacksonville, Fla.; son, Roger Ray Baldwin and wife Karen of Oneida; brother, Hubert Baldwin of Oneida; sisters, Violet Justice of Coalfield, TN., Anna Judd and Edna Playhouse of Cookeville; grandchildren, Kristi Mansouri, Ashley and Doug Bo! oher, Courtnery Harrell, Danielle Matney, Kasey and Adam Baldwin; four great-granddaughters; many nieces, nephews and close friends. DAVID LEON HAYES, 60, of Oneida, passed away on June 16, at the Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge. He was the son of Gladys Hayes Purkey and the late James Clyde Hayes. A member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church. In addition to his father he was preceded in death by step-father, Roy T. Purkey; step-sister, Gerry Purkey Sutton. In addtion to his mother he is survived by two sister, Linda H. David and husband John of Gainesville, Fla., Jenny H. Romine and husband Stan of Hermitage, Tn.; brother, James R. Hayes and wife Rachel of Kingston; step-brother, Tommy Purkey and wife Sharon of Mt. Juliet, Tn; and step-sister, Sandra Green and husband Wade of Hermitage, Tn. Funeral services were conduted at June 19 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of West Murley Funeral Home with Minister Randy Neal officiating. Graveside serviecs were held at the Grandview Cemetery in Maryville, Tn. West Murley Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. EARL DEAN SHANNON, 48, passed away Thursday at his residence in Muncie (Indiana) following an extended illness. He graduated from Scott High School in 1975. He had worked at Waters Construction for 19 years and Ball State University for several years. He was a member and ordained deacon of Westside United Baptist Church and a member of Ball State University Sympathy Club. He is survived by his wife, Paula Shannon of Muncie; daughters, Janette Slaven and husband D.J.; Monica Shannon, and Leslie Chambers and husband Shawn, all of Muncie; two granddaughters, Colleen and Marah, of Muncie; parents, Amous and Reba Shannon of Helenwood; father and mother-in-law, Phillip and Sue Waters of Yorktown; brothers and sisters, Roger and wife Katherine, of Lascassas, Tn., Ronald Shannon of Helenwood; Dennis Shannon of Sunbright; Melissa Griffith and husband Bob of Robbins; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted Monday at 10 a.m. at Westside United Baptist Chu! rch with Rev. Larry Waters, Rev. Lewis Waters and Lynn Waters officiating. ERNEST CHITWOOD, 94, of Winfield, passed away June 13 at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville. He was the son of the late John M. and Louise Trammell Chitwood. He was of the baptist faith. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by five brothers, Ray, Bert, Frank, Earl, and Kaney Chitwood; two sisters, Bessie Washam and Myrtle Coffee. He is survived by one son, John Chitwood of California; one daughter, Carole Haugh of Toledo, O.; three grandchildren, Scott Chitwood, Kelly Reilly and Steve Haugh; five great-grandchildren, Andrew Haugh, Kyle Reilly, Nathan Haugh, Keegan Reilly, and Steven Haugh, Jr.; and nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. CHARLOTTE LEE VANDERPOOL, 48, of Oneida, passed away on June 13 at the home of her daughter in Winfield. She was the daughter of Maurice and Orene Hale Shannon. She as a LPN and had been a long time employee of Dr. Bruce Coffey. She was preceded in death by her mother, Orene Hale Shannon. She was survived by father, Maurice Shannon and wife Sheila of Oneida; daughter, Chasity Foster and husband Paul of Winfield; two sons, Chad Vanderpool of Helenwood and Chase Vanderpool of Pioneer; three sisters, Janice Miller of Oneida, Deborah Anderson and husband Zane of Winfield, and Nona Brown and husband James of Braselton, Ga.; brother, Tim Shannon and special friends, Sandy Stephens of Winfield; and several nieces, nephews and special friends, Paula Voiles, Crystal Zachary and Danielle Sexton and special friends, Leesa Fry who cared for her during her last days at home. SMITH, 78 formerly of Scott County passed away April 25, 2005. He was a member of World War II Navy Seabee, VFW Post #7570 and American Legion Post #199, Harrison, O. and E.T. Carson Lodge #59 F&AM. He was preceded in death by wife Susie P.(Pennington) Smith; Paul, John, Ed, Gene, Millard Smith and Virginia Evans. He is survived by children, Donna Acree, John (Sandy) Smith, Steve (Helen) Smith, Randy (Cecil) Smith and Bob (Carol) Smith; eight grandchildren; brother, Glen Smith; half brother, Kenneth Smith; and many other relatives and friends. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and fought for his country in WWII. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two infant sons, James Carroll and Vincent Dowe; one infant daughter, Shirley Mae; one daughter, Wanda Sue West Goss; four grandchildren, Lisa Ann Martin, Misty Lane West Strunk, Troy West; six brothers, Charles Melvin, Reid Russell, Albert (Joab), Glenn Curtis, Max (D00g) and John Gerald; four sisters, Erma Cells Malone, Blanche Artema Duncan, Madge Kathleen South and Mary Helen Terry. Donnie enjoyed hunting and farming. He was currently employed for Ameritemp in Lorain, O. He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Laurabell Chitwood; two brothers, Getstele Chitwood and Legmon Chitwood. He is survived by his wife, Mary Chitwood; son, Donnie Chitwood Jr.; two daughters, Tammy Henline and Laurie Dembek; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; five brothers, Herotoe "Pete" Chitwood, Bobby Milford, Johnny, and Eddie Chitwood; two sisters, Gerty Bowling and Rita Faye Lay.
