The following are the obituaries from the Scott County News, Vol. 89, No. 10, Thursday, February 9, 2006, page 12: ANNIE BROOK CARSON WALK, 83, of Huntsville, passed away on February 6 at the Scott County Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Lewis Walls and Willia Elizabeth Dickerson Wall. She was a member of the Church of God. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Samuel Bailey Carson; second husband, Wilmer Walk, Jr.; brothers, George, William Perry, Alonzo and Marion. She is survived by her children, Louis Carson and wife Kathy of Huntsville, Willia Jean Scott and husband Charles of Helenwood, Roscoe Carson and fiance Brenda of Whitley City, Ky., Samuel Bailey Carson Jr. and wife Becky of Helenwood, Barbara Lawson and husband Benny Lawson of the Fairview Community, Sharon Kay Phillips of Oneida; Carl Carson and Sarah Jane of Clinton, James H. Carson and wife Debbie of Helenwood; step-son, Roger Epperson; sister, Nannie Lay of Norwood, O.; twenty-eight grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; and eleven step-great grandchildren; ! three great-great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted on February 8 at 2 p.m. with Bro. Bob Gray and Bro. Bruce Kennedy officiating. Special music was provided by Allan and Dian Carson. Interment was in the Peaceful Rose Gardens in the Paint Rock Community. The grandchildren served as pallbearers. West-Murley Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. WILMA JEAN CRABTREE, 76, formerly of Oneida passed away February 1, 2006 at Lake Cumberland Regional Medical Center in Kentucky. Mrs. Crabtree was a member of the Selin Baptist Church in Somerset, a member of the Red Hat Club, and The Newcomers of Somerset, Ky. She is preceded in death by her parents Rev. Hurstle Lay and Opal Leona Wright Lay. Survivors include her husband Roy Crabtree; son Wayne Crabtree and wife Ramona; daughter, Patricia Diana Amos and husband Calvin; grandson, Jason Amos all of Cincinnati, Oh.; granddaughter, Tara Nicole Crabtree of Atlanta, Ga.; five sisters, Christine Vockell of Cincinnati, Oh., Ruth Ray of Somerset, Ky., Dorinda Layman of Los Angeles, Ca., Yvonne Wright of Winfield, and Regena Wolf and husband Tom of Palm Coast, Fl.; three brothers, William Lay and wife Betty of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Buford Lay and wife Colleen, and Jerry Lay all of Cincinnati, Oh., and a host of relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted on February! 4 at 11 a.m. at Pine Grove Baptist Church in Winfield with Rev. Hertis Phillips and Rev. Jack Chitwood officiating. Burial was in the Walker Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Terry Stinson, Jerry Lay, Buford Lay, Bill Lay, Sphar Amos, Jason Amos, and Harvey Adkins. Jones & Son Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. JAMES W. COWAN, 71, passed away January 31, 2006 at Scott County Hospital. Mr. Cowan was a member of the New Light Baptist Church and retired from General Motors in 1988. He was preceded in death by parents James Liston Cowan and Hilda Agree Cowan. Survivors include, wife Katherine Cowan of Winfield; son, James A. Cowan of St. Louis, Mi.; a daughter, Nancy Cowan of Troy, Mich.; two step-children Danny Milhem of Mich. and Lisa Harrell of Tn.; four grandchildren, Brandon Cowan of Mich. Breat and Kirstine Cowan of St. Louis, Mi and Danielle Milhem of Mich. Funeral services were conducted on February 4 at 1 p.m. at New Light Baptist with Rev. Larry Fults officiating. Special music was provided by the New Light Baptist Church Choir. Burial was in the New Light Cemetery in Winfield. Serving as pallbearers were Burt Burchfield, Danny Chambers, Jr., Milford Chitwood, Shane Cooper, Dexter Duncan, Steve Latner, Danny Milhem, Derrick Simpson.
