These are the obituaries from the Scott County News, Nov. 89, No. 7, Thursday, January 19, 2006, Page 10: BUDDY PENNINGTON, 76, passed away on January 15 at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, He was the son of the late James Pennington and Minnie Lee Cooper Pennington. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by wife, Willis Faye Cottrell; sister, Hazel Louise Brewster; and brothers, Daniel Pennington and James Pennington. He is survived by his sister, Georgia Slaven of Oneida; special friends, Nadine Bybee and husband Rick of Oneida; and all of his CB radio friends; several nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted on January 18 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of West-Murley Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Muse and Rev. Johnny Perry officiating. Interment was in the Pennington Cemetery. West-Murley Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. KATE CANNON CECIL, of Knoxville, passed away on January 14. She was the daughter of Charles and Etta Cannon. In addition to her parents she was proceeded in death by husband, Hayward Cecil; sister, Anna Sue Free; great-granddaughter, Hailey Fisher. She is survived by her children, Robert G. Cannon and wife Sandra, Sandy Wood and husband Jerry H., Sr., Connie Keyes and husband Don; grandchildren, Greg and Robert Carney, Julie Nichols, Jill Murrell, Adam, Joseph, Mandy and Amy Kingston; greatgrandchildren, Maria and Mitchell Carney, Cody Fisher, Zachary Ball; brothers, Don and Jack Cannon of Oneida; sister, Johnnie C. Johnson; several nieces and nephews. Funeral srvices were held January 18 at 8 p.m. in the chapel of Berry Funeral Home with Rev. Darvin Oakes officiating. Graveside services were held January 19 at 11 a.m. in the Sherwood Memorial Gardens. Berry Funeral Home of Knoxville was in charge of the arrangements. He is a native of Scott County and the son of the late Ovia and Evelyn Terry Cross. Mr. Cross was a retired Major in the united States Army having served in the WWII. He was a retired State Executive Director of Tennessee ASCS office. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by granddaughter, Catherine Michelle Neer; and brother, Ira Lee Cross. He is survived by his wife, June Collette Cross of Jonesborough; two daughters, Brenda Lee Shelton of Clinton, and Martha Lou Cross of Knoxville; four step-children, Marlene Jones of Jonesborough, Deborah Dumbar of Philadelphia, PA, Myra McGhee, Gray and Robert Collette of Limestone; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in the Korean Conflict. He was of the Baptist faith and worked for West Coal Company for many years. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jessie Pate Jr. McWhorter and John Hurt McWhorter. He is survived by his wife, Gertie Louise West McWhorter of Huntsville; two daughters, Debra June and husband Larry and Sonja Kay and husband Will all of Indianapolis, Ind.; four step-children, Rosa Mae Phillips and husband Earl of Ga., Flora Ann Lowe of Oneida; Patsy Lou Phillips and husband, Russell of Mooreland, Ga., Eddie Dean Strunk of Huntsville; three brothers, Tommy Dale McWhorter of Albany, Ky.; Luther McWhorter and wife Maryetta of Muncie, Ind., and Lonnie McWhorter of Bakerton, Ky.; one sister, Juanity ! She was the daughter of the late Eskridge Andrew Shelton and Lucinda Sears Shelton. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Ezra Hughett originally of the Buffalo community; an infant son, James Eskridge Shelton Hughett; daughter, Patricia Ann Smith; three sisters, Nerva Bennett, Rhoda Hill, and Hattie Engle; three brothers, Tom Shelton, Dewey Shelton, and Eskridge Shelton II. She is survived by two sons, Barry Hughett of Detroit, Mich. and Larry Hughett of Louisville, Ky.; two grandsons, Harvey Smith, Jr. of Traverse City, Mich., and Steven Hughett of Lincoln Park, Mich.; five granddaughters, Nanette Johnson of Mancelona, Mich., Lynn Wuance of Aurora, Colorado, Darlene Mazur of Taylor, Mich., Jill Nashtatik of Bellmore, NY, and Elizabeth Hughett of Bayfield, Colorado; seven great-grandchildren, James and Robert Smith, !
