From the Oak Ridger 24 Oct 2005 Wilburn Borum, 80, a lifelong resident of Oliver Springs, Roy Gilbert Darnell, 74, Phillip Lynn Elliott, 52, of Lake City, Ruth Claire Keeling Frey, 87, of Knoxville, James Allen "Al" Howell, 27, of Oliver Springs, Grace Nelson Rhyne Edith Singley, 86, Wilma Jones West, 71, a resident of Coalfield, Wilburn Borum, 80, a lifelong resident of Oliver Springs, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, Oct. 22, 2005. He was born June 20, 1925, in Oliver Springs, Tenn. Wilburn was a member of Kellytown Baptist Church. He was a retiree of Martin Marietta Y-12, X-10 and K-25 plants with 36 years as a fire inspector. Mr. Borum was also a United States Navy veteran who served his country during World War II. He enjoyed golfing and gardening in his spare time. He was preceded in death by his infant son, Keith Douglas Borum; parents, Fred and Maggie Crouch Borum; brothers, Franklin, Harold, Denton, Sam and Clyde Borum; and by a sister, Freddie LeGette. Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Mildred Justice Borum of Oliver Springs; son, Lynn Alan Borum and wife, Terri of Franklin; sisters, Mildred Busby of Atlanta, Ga., Bonnie Vaught and husband, Robert of Harriman, Audrey Parker of Lakeland, Fla., and Hilda Mason and husband, Earl of Clinton; sisters-in-law, Grace Borum of Oliver Springs, Oveline Borum of Oak Ridge, Peggy Borum of Oliver Springs, and Donna Justice of Oliver Springs. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and a host of dear friends. The family received friends from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, 2005, at Sharp Funeral Home with funeral service following the visitation at 8:30 p.m. in the chapel with Pastor Mack Smith and Pastor Garvan Walls officiating. Burial and graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 24, 2005, at the Oliver Springs Cemetery. Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs is in charge of all the arrangements. Roy Gilbert Darnell, 74, passed away Friday, Oct. 21, 2005, at his residence. He was a member of Clinton First Baptist Church, Clinton Optimist Club, Clinton Civitan, Clinton Jaycees, Oak Ridge Country Club, Elks Lodge, and Clinton Chamber of Commerce, where he served as president years ago. Roy was a veteran of the United States Army having served in the Korean War. He was a graduate of Memphis State University, where he played basketball. Roy retired as plant manager at Modine Manufacturing in Clinton. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hardin and Mattie Humphrey Darnell; and by a brother, Chester Darnell. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Betty Darnell of Clinton; son, Michael and wife Lori Darnell of Montclair, Va.; daughter, Jana Darnell of Tucson, Ariz.; grandchildren, Sean and Meghan Darnell of Montclair, Va.; sister, Vada Story of Marion, Ky.; brother, Fred and wife Mary Darnell of Augusta, Ga.; special nephew, B.W. Darnell and wife Patsy of Benton, Ky.; and by several other nieces and nephews. His burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 24, 2005, at Grandview Memorial Garden. He was born March 29, 1953, in Campbell County. He worked at Eagle Bend Manufacturing as a machine operator. He was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping. He loving spending time with his children and taking trips to Cades Cove. He was preceded in death by his parents, Phillip and Mamie Adkins Elliott; sister-in-law, Clarice Elliott; and mother-in-law, Josie Hoskins. Mr. Elliott is survived by his wife, Erma Elliott of Lake City; sons, Joshua Phillip Elliott and Noah Phillip Elliott, both of Lake City; daughters, Wendy Michelle Kesterson-Bryan of Norris, Gabrielle Sara Elliott of Lake City, and Brittiany Michelle Elliott of Lake City; sister, Teresa Lopez and husband Steve of Clinton; brother, Jimmy Elliott of Lake City; grandchildren, Jeremy and Sydney Kesterson of Norris; and by several nieces and nephews, and many friends. Ruth Claire Keeling Frey, 87, of Knoxville, died Saturday, Oct. 22, 2005, at Hillcrest West Nursing Home. She was a member of The Episcopal Church of The Ascension. She was a member of Tennessee Music Teachers Association, a volunteer for the Sunshine Center, and a piano teacher for 40 years. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Eileen Frey. Ruth is survived by her husband, Ralph D. Frey Sr., and son, Ralph D. Frey Jr., both of Knoxville; daughter, Anne Frey Brown and husband Rob, of Marietta, Ga.; grandchildren, Derek Ray, Miriam, Gage and Logan Brown. The memorial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Chapel of The Episcopal Church of The Ascension with the Rev. Ladson F. Mills III officiating, with inurnment to follow in the church Columbarium. James Allen "Al" Howell, 27, of Oliver Springs, departed life suddenly on Oct. 22, 2005. Al was a great outdoorsman who loved fishing and all sports. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Allen S. Howell in 1980, and Ruth Virginia Howell on Aug. 20, 2005. Al had been extremely depressed over the death of his grandmother who raised him, Ruth Virginia Howell. He will be sadly missed by his beloved father and best friend, Steve Howell of Oliver Springs. Al will be missed by his pets, Lucky and Magic. Other survivors include his mother, Jane Marsh Howell of Harriman; son, Isaiah Howell of Clinton; aunts, Kay H. Lindsey of Chesterfield, Va., and Virginia Livesay of South Park, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. The graveside service will be held on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Oak Ridge Memorial Park with Dr. Steve McDonald officiating.
