From The Knoxville News Sentinel 1 Oct 2005 BOOK, CHARLES "CHUCK" - 81, HARNESS, JUNE - age 65 of Caryville, NORMAN, ROBERT TED - age 73 of LaFollette PHILLIPS, KAY FRANCES - PHILLIPS, LAURA "ETTA" - age 76 of Knoxville SEIBER, ELLIS CARL - age 73 of Knoxville, SEXTON, JOHN LOUIS - age 68, of Knoxville, BOOK, CHARLES "CHUCK" - 81, died Thursday after a brief illness at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. An ordained Presbyterian minister born in New Castle, PA, Book retired to Oak Ridge in the late 1980s after a distinguished career in church and public service work to be near his family. He quickly became engaged in many community activities. A lifelong fan of the circus, he taught courses on that subject through the Oak Ridge Institute for Continued Learning, and traveled to circus events around the country. He was a member of the board of directors of Circus Fans of America. During his career, Chuck Book served churches in Louisiana, Virginia, New York and Tennessee. He trained as a chaplain at Baptist Hospital in New Orleans, and served as chaplain at several area nursing homes during his retirement. He was also active with the Presbytery of East Tennessee. While serving as stated supply pastor for small churches outside of New Orleans, Book worked 19 years as executive director of the YMCA of Metairie, LA. Under his leadership, the YMCA became the leading health, fitness and community service organization for the New Orleans area. Book is survived by his wife Connie; a brother, Bob McKissick of Pulaski, PA; and three children: his son Earl Book and wife Lisa, and their children Hayden and Evangeline, of Helena, MT; his daughter Priscilla Campbell and husband Jim, and their daughters Elise, Amelia and Claire of Oak Ridge; and his daughter Jill Book of Clinton, TN. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church of Oak Ridge. A reception will be held immediately after the service. She enjoyed house cleaning and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Mr. Norman enjoyed yard work, outdoors, and spending time with his family. He loved his kids and grandchildren very much. Kay died unexpectedly peacefully in her sleep at her home. She was a Member of City View Baptist Church. A loving wife, mother, and nana. She was devoted to her children and grandchildren. She spent time helping others and volunteered at the Habitat for Humanity Store and rang the Bell for the Salvation Army each Christmas. She loved Karate and had just received her Green Belt. She studied Karate at the Fierce Tiger and was retired from Levi Strauss. She was preceded in death: husband, James R. She was a lifelong member of North Knoxville Baptist Church. She retired from Baptist Hospital Pharmacy after 18 years service, then worked for the Kroger Pharmacy at Broadway Shopping Center. SEXTON, JOHN LOUIS - age 68, of Knoxville, Tennessee, went to meet his Lord on Friday, September 30, 2005, after a valiant fight against cancer and pulmonary fibrosis. He served the United States Air Force for eight years and retired from the Aluminum Company of America after 28 years of service. He distinguished himself there as a skilled electrician and successful supervisor. John served as a deacon at Laurel Church of Christ where he was a member. He will be dearly missed by numerous friends and relatives. He was a dedicated, caring and fun-loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother, son and friend. John loved, encouraged and helped the people in his life and had a "rich, full life." As a self-taught golfer, he had a passionate love for the game; a love which he passed on to many friends and family members including his grandchildren. Preceded in death by his father, Carson Conrad Sexton of Knoxville.
