Carmack Jr., 84, Mary Carol Meece, 74, of Oliver Springs Wilma Jeanette West, 71, a resident of Coalfield, Barbara C. Elliott, 74, a resident of Harriman, William D. Gude, 91, of Oak Ridge, Frank Patt, of Powell, Jacqueline M. Blackburn, 79, died Oct. 20, 2005, of complications following heart surgery. She was born Feb. 4, 1926, to Lula and Chester Misenheimer of Concord, N.C. She earned her bachelor's degree at DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind., and her master's at Emory University in Atlanta. By the age of 21, she had completed both degrees and had begun her 40-year career teaching primarily speech, dramatics, and English. After several years in Florida, she returned to North Carolina, where she taught in several districts. In 1956, she married Charles I. Blackburn of Rocky Mount, N.C., who later earned his bachelor's degree at Wofford College in Spartanburg, S.C., and his master's at Duke University. Upon completion of Mr. Blackburn's education, they returned to South Carolina, where both taught at Spartanburg High School for some 30 years. Mrs. Blackburn also produced and directed a number of one-act and three-act plays. She loved Spartanburg and considered herself fortunate to have known so many fine young people and to have worked with such dedicated and talented teachers. Following the death of her husband and her retirement, Mrs. Blackburn moved to Oak Ridge in 1989 to live with her sister and brother-in-law, Anne and Patrick Adamson. She made many friends in Oak Ridge and particularly enjoyed its proximity to the mountains. She remained interested in the education of young people and tutored several of various ages. In 1997, she took up ballroom dancing and participated in classes, lessons, and competitions. In addition to her Oak Ridge relatives, Mrs. Blackburn is survived by two brothers, Chester E. Misenheimer of Concord, N.C., and Robert S. Misenheimer and his wife Bernie of Kannapolis, N.C.; and four nieces, a nephew, and their families. A memorial service will be held at Weatherford Mortuary in Oak Ridge at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 27. The body was cremated, and the ashes will be interred in North Carolina. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the charity of the donor's choice. John Anthony Byrge, 51, of Lake City, passed away Sunday, Oct. 23, 2005, at the Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. He was born Sept. 18, 1954, in Anderson County. He was a member of the Longfield Baptist Church in Lake City, Tenn. He was a dispatcher for the town of Lake City, former Police Commissioner, and former Police Chief. He also worked as the Security Commander at Wackenhut for 15 years. Anthony loved fishing, hunting, guns, coin collecting, baseball card collecting and above all his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ned and Phyllis Sharp, and Everett and Ruby Byrge; mother-in-law, Trula Patterson; and special friend, Rickey Gene Ferguson. Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Tooney Patterson Bryge of Lake City; daughter and son-in-law, Stacy and Greg Phillips of Lake City; "Papaw Baby's" grandchildren, Mackenzie and Zachary Phillips of Lake City; his parents, Tom and Louise Byrge of Lake City; father-in-law, Ernest Lee Patterson of Lake City; brother and sister-in-law, David and Pam Byrge of Lake City; brothers-in-law, Audrey Patterson of Lake City, and George Michael Patterson of Lake City; "Uncle Bubbies" nephews, Russell and Matthew Byrge of Lake City; aunt and uncle, Nancy and Ken Shrull of Lake City; uncle and aunt, J.L. and Maxie Sharp of Lake City; cousins, Tim Sharp, Angie McMahan and Sonny Gross; special cousin, Betty Lou Ward; and a host of aunts, uncles and many special friends. Carmack Jr., 84, passed away Friday evening at Rogersville Care and Rehab Center after a long period of declining health. He was retired from the city of Oak Ridge as a city engineer and inspector. He was a 50+ years member of the Scottish Rite and Eastern Star Masonic Lodge No. 486 in Whitesburg and Knoxville Shriners. Before his health problems, P.M. attended Big Creek Baptist Church. Mr. Carmack was preceded in death by his parents, Pitts Miller Carmack and Bessie Carmack; wife, Helen Carmack; three half brothers, Lynn, Eldridge, and Ed Carmack; a half sister, Maude Shipley; and step daughter, Virginia Carmack Davis. P.M. is survived by his devoted stepdaughter and son-in-law, Linda and Tecky Hicks, and stepson, Edward H. Carmack and wife Barbara, all of Stanley Valley; seven grandchildren: Stacy Jones and husband Chris, Amanda Hicks Alvis and husband Daniel, and Jeff Carmack and wife Lorie, all of Rogersville; Jill Price and husband Scott of Church Hill; Rick Davis and wife Pam, Kim Gibson and husband Danny of Maryville, Tim Davis and wife Karen of Nashville; 11 great-grandchildren: Justin Hicks, Cris Jones, Nick Jones, Hunter Price, Callie Price, Abby Carmack, Emma Carmack, Grant Davis, Jennifer Davis, Danielle Gibson and Aaron Davis. Special cousins are Don and Peggy Bewley of St. Clair, and Glenn and Margarette Long of Rogersville. Honorary pallbearers: John D. McBride, James A. Wolfe, Frank Honaker, Joe D. Mary Carol Meece, 74, of Oliver Springs, beloved mother, grandmother and sister, went to be with the Lord on Friday, Oct. 21, 2005. She was born April 7, 1931, in Rome, Ga., the daughter of the late James N. and Mae Burkhalter. She was preceded in death by four brothers and a sister. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Nolan and husband Butch of Clinton; son, Mark Meece of Norris; grandchildren, April Nolan, Allyson Nolan, and Jordan Meece; brother and sister-in-laws, Max and Frances Burkhalter and Dorothy Burkhalter of Knoxville, Irene Burkhalter of Alabama; niece, Sheila Lane of Knoxville, and family members in Georgia. She enjoyed visits from her friends, flower arranging, various crafts, and watching her hummingbirds. The family would like to especially thank her many friends for their love, kindness and support. Wilma Jeanette West, 71, a resident of Coalfield, passed away Sunday, Oct. 23, 2005, at her home, following a lengthy illness. She was born July 13, 1934, in Gate City, Va., moving to this area in her early childhood. Mrs. West had worked several years in motel lodging. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Clyde Kinsel West; parents, Bill and Georgia Jones; brothers, James, Eddie and Gene Jones; and sister, Anita Jane Jones. Survivors include her sons, William E. Jones and wife, Cindy of Elizabethton, Clyde Jeff West and special friend, Shirley Jackson of Coalfield; grandchildren, Stacey Brickey and husband, Chris of Oak Ridge, Bridget Hadden and husband, Bart of Oak Ridge; great-grandchildren, C.
