(JAY) - age 79 of Jacksboro, DUNCAN, RUBY JANE (SUMMERS) - age 96 of the Joyner Community, MARLOW, LB - age 88 of LaFollette PALKO, ALOYSIUS (AL) ALPHONSE - age 85, of Burchfield Heights in the Solway Community, ASMANES, ALICE CONTOS - of Oak Ridge, passed away suddenly and peacefully on Thursday, October 20, 2005. She had been a resident of Oak Ridge since 1945 when she moved from her home in Orange, New Jersey with her husband. She will be greatly missed by her husband, Charles; her children and their spouses, Arthur and Joanne Asmanes, Barbara and Byron Lemont and Lynn and Phil Moore. She also leaves her grandchildren and great grandchildren: Donna and Mike Farrar and Joanne, Glen and Kim Thomas and Taylor, Phaedra and Bill Hargis and Lily, Electra and Humberto Posada and Diego and Augustine, Jennifer and Travis Wiggins and Jonathan and Nikki Plaza. Preceded in death by parents, siblings, in-laws and most of her close friends, she is also survived by her brother, Nicholas Contos. A graveside service will be held on Monday, October 24, 2005 at 10:00am at Oak Ridge Memorial Park with Father John Kostas officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. BARTON, EMMA SUE - age 71, of Norris, passed away Tuesday, October 18, 2005 at Methodist Medical Center. She was of the Baptist Faith and was born October 14, 1934 in Maryville, Tennessee. Mrs. Barton was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Preceded in death by: daughter, Susan Barton; parents, Dexter and Mabel Rathbone; sister, Jean Brooks; brother, Bud Rathbone and grandsons, Ricky and Randy Barton. Survivors: husband of 54 years, Earl Barton of Norris; daughters, Nancy Barton and Gloria Heffron of Clinton; sons, Tom & wife Debbie Barton of Heiskell, Bob & wife Linda Barton of Heiskell, David & wife Kim of Maryville; special friends and neighbors of Pine Road in Norris, Tennessee. BOLTON, MR. JOHN L. (JAY) - age 79 of Jacksboro, passed away Thursday October 20, 2005, at St. Mary's Medical Center, Knoxville. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army and member of Fordtown Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by father and mother, Marion and Lourina Bolton; daughter, Tina Cleo Bolton; brother, Charlie Bolton; half brothers, Hubert, Earl, Monroe, Frank and Lewis Bolton; sister, Mary Jane Branam; half sisters, Nannie Ridenour and Parlee Lambdin; step-son, Scotty Harding. Survivors: wife, Mildred Bolton of Jacksboro; sons, Kelvin, Lee, Kenneth and Johnny Bolton all of LaFollette and Ernest Bolton of Maynardville; daughters, April Bolton of Kingston, Roxie Wylie and Janice Day both of LaFollette; stepchildren, Junior Harding of Clinton, Dennis Harding of Jacksboro, Dinah Richardson of North Carolina, and Teresa Brock of Jacksboro; brother, McKinnley Bolton of Athens, TN; sister, Lorene Marlow of White Oak; 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 14 step-grandchildren; and 16 step great-grandchildren. DUNCAN, RUBY JANE (SUMMERS) - age 96 of the Joyner Community, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 19, 2005 at the Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge following a brief illness. She was preceded in death by: husband, Herbert Andrew Duncan; parents, Richard and Callie Summers; sisters, Aubrey Jones and Pearl Marlow; brother, Homer Summers. She is survived by: seven children including: daughters and sons-in-law, Carrie Lou (Charlie) Embry of Cave City, KY, Betty Sue (Dennis) Neskaug of Powell and Marjorie Gale (Nelson) Dalton of Kingsport; sons and daughters-in-law, Robert Lee (Venia) Duncan, Russell M. Duncan, Glen H. (Betty) Duncan, all of Joyner and James D. Duncan of Wartburg; She is also survived by a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great- grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of friends and relatives. The family will receive friends Friday, October 21, 2005 from 6-8 pm at Schubert Funeral Home in Wartburg. Funeral services will begin at 8 pm with Bro. Paul Frick officiating. She was a member of Union Baptist Church, Wartburg and interment will be in Union Cemetery on Saturday, 11 am. MARLOW, LB - age 88 of LaFollette passed away Wednesday, October 19, 2005 at the St. Mary's Medical Center of Campbell Co. He was a member and helped form the Campbell Co. Riding Club. He also was a veteran of WW II and member of VFW. Mr. Marlow loved fishing, hunting, show horses, and show dogs. He won several ribbons. He was a member of Miami Valley Beagle Club in Ohio. Preceded in death by wife: Dorothy Stanford Marlow, parents: John and Martha Jones Marlow, brother and sister in law: Bob and May Marlow, brother: John Marlow, sisters and brothers in law: Betty Jo and Eddie Randolph. Litha and John Marlow. Carrie and Grant Leach. Mossie and Raymond Teague. Tennie and Bill Teague. Survived by nephews and nieces: Curt and Geneva Teague, Terry and Teresa Ward, Janice Engle-Schultz; and a host of other nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and other relatives and friends. PALKO, ALOYSIUS (AL) ALPHONSE - age 85, of Burchfield Heights in the Solway Community, passed away at home at 8:40 p.m. October 18, 2005 after a long illness. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Oak Ridge, serving as usher for many years. He was born in Harriman, one of eleven children of the late Julia and Andrew Palko, Sr. He served in the Navy during WWII from 1944-46. He was a radar lieutenant on the USS Chicago and was stationed in Japan with the occupational forces. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from University of Tennessee. He worked for thirty three years as a Research Chemist, first at the Y -12 plant and then Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Raised on a farm, he never lost his love of nature. He was landscaper at St. Mary's Convent for many years and worked in the family's Roane County farm and in his home gardens. He built his home in Burchfield Heights and aided others with woodworking projects. He was one of the founders of Carbide Camera Club, teaching classes in processing and developing film. Many local residents own a print of his Old Solway Bridge photograph. Retiring from ORNL in 1982, he was co- winner of an Industrial Research and Development Award and an Environmental Protection Agency Award for an efficient silver recovery process. He had several patents and many articles in scientific literature. Preceding him in death besides his parents: are two sisters; three brothers; a granddaughter and a son-in-law. He is survived by: his wife of 56 years, Corinne Knight Palko; six children; sixteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. Surviving sons and daughters-in-law are: David and Pamela Palko, Bill and Sherry Palko, Tom and Marie Palko; daughters and sons-in-law are: Diane and Bill Hatcher, Patti and Rob Drexler and Elaine Patterson. Surviving siblings are: Sr. Mary Martin Palko, Joseph Palko, Clement Palko, Edward Palko, and Martin Palko; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Vermont Avenue, Oak Ridge on Saturday, October 22, 2005 at 10:30 a. m. with Father Michael Woods officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at the Palko Family Cemetery on Webster Road in Harriman with family members serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be at Weatherford Mortuary, 158 South Jefferson Circle, Oak Ridge, Friday, October 21, from 6:00- 8:00 p.m. A Rosary will follow at 8:00 p. m.
