From The Oak Ridger 12 Sep 2005 Celestia E. Butler, 91, of Oliver Springs, Jimmy Clarence Duncan, 67, of the Marlow community in Anderson County, Clifford M. "Marty" Justice Jr., 61, of the Mossy Grove community in Morgan County, Richard Lynn Shepherd, 45, of Knoxville, Celestia E. Butler, 91, a lifelong resident of Oliver Springs, died Saturday, Sept. 10, 2005, at her home. She was born Sept. 7, 1914, in Oliver Springs, the daughter of Robert and Deaner Beets Johnson. Her family remembers her as a loving homemaker and a fantastic cook. Mrs. Butler was a member of Orchard View Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Butler; daughter, Jo Ann Butler; four sisters, Jeanette Brock, Essie Strickland, Betty McKinney, and Mary Strickland; and two brothers, the Rev. Robert N. Johnson and the Rev. Bill Johnson. She is survived by her daughter, Judy Butler of Oliver Springs; her sister and brother-in-law, Mildred and Arnold Clark of Kingston; her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Willie Jean Johnson of Oliver Springs, Eileen Butler of Tupelo, Miss., Louise Moreland of Tupelo, Miss., Ora Mae and Carlos Gaskin of Elijay, Ga., A.C. and Hazel Butler of Oliver Springs, and Jack McKinney of Chattanooga; and by several nieces, nephews, and extended family members A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2005, at Orchard View Cemetery with the Rev. Jimmy Clarence Duncan, 67, of the Marlow community in Anderson County, died Friday, Sept. 9, 2005, at his home. He was born Jan. 1, 1938, in Petros, Tenn., and lived in the surrounding area all of his life. Mr. Duncan was a member of Mineral Springs Baptist Church. He was employed at Food City in Oliver Springs as the produce manager. He had worked for Food City, formerly White Stores, for more than 49 years. Mr. Duncan was preceded in death by his parents, George Burley Duncan and Christine Goodman Duncan; and by a brother, Billy Duncan. He is survived by his wife, Alene Long Duncan of Marlow; his daughters, Deborah Ann Phillips and husband, Steve, of Marlow, Janice Kay Phillips and husband, Danny, of Clinton, Sheila Parks and husband, Tony, of Marlow, and Tonya Lynn Duncan of Marlow; his son, Jimmy Lee Duncan of the Batley community; six grandchildren, Joe Phillips and wife, Kristen, of Powell, Tim Phillips of Marlow, Kevin Phillips of Clinton, Jonathan Duncan of Kingston, Jamie Phillips and wife, Shelley, of Knoxville, and Josh Phillips of Marlow; and three great-grandchildren, Alexis Phillips, Emilie Phillips, and Hannah Phillips. He is also survived by his brothers, Don Duncan and wife, Wanda, of Oliver Springs, and George Duncan Jr. and wife, Pam, of Corryton; his sisters, Louise Jackson and husband, Pat, of Oliver Springs, Ruby Ann Comer of Oliver Springs, and Katie Bass and husband, Harvey, also of Oliver Springs; and special friends, Ancil Kesterson and C.E. Patterson. Mr. Duncan is survived, in addition, by a host of friends, cousins, nieces and nephews, and extended family members. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12, 2005, in the chapel of Sharp Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Daugherty and the Rev. Luther Kidwell officiating. The graveside service and burial will follow at Anderson Memorial Gardens, Oliver Springs Highway. The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11, 2005, at the funeral home. "Marty" Justice Jr., 61, of the Mossy Grove community in Morgan County, died Friday, Sept. 9, 2005, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Mr. Justice was born Nov. 12, 1943. He lived in Coalfield until he moved to Ypsilanti, Mich., at the age of 6. After retirement, he moved back home to Morgan County. Mr. Justice was retired from Ford Motor Company following 37 years of employment. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Coalfield and the W.M.A., a welding group. Marty was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford Justice Sr. and Jessie Wilson Justice. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Jane Dawson Justice of Mossy Grove; his sons, Paul J. Justice and wife, Dannette, of Columbiaville, Mich., and Christopher Justice and wife, Stella, of Ypsilanti, Mich.; 11 grandchildren; his brothers, Charles E. Justice and wife, Cookie, of Hartland, Mich., and James William Justice and wife, Cheryl, of West Branch, Mich.; and his sisters, Betty J. Justice of Coalfield, and Kem J. Jordan and husband, Allen, of Coalfield. Marty is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and a host of neighbors whom he considered very special friends. The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12, 2005, in the chapel of Sharp Funeral Home with the Rev. Todd Hardin officiating. Richard Lynn Shepherd, 45, of Knoxville, died Friday, Sept. 9, 2005, at his home after a long illness. He was a Catholic. He was an avid NASCAR fan, and a devoted father and grandfather. Those fortunate enough to know him will remember him for his easygoing attitude, and friendly personality. He was preceded in death by his father, Oatha "Bud" Shepherd; his stepfather, Homer Gentry; his sister, Brenda Frye; and by a niece, Kelly Frye. Mr. Shepherd is survived by his daughter, Rebecca Shepherd of Knoxville; his granddaughter, Marley Sunshine Cate of Knoxville; his mother, Ethel Gentry of Clinton; his brothers, Dennis Shepherd of Schererville, Ind., Paul Shepherd of Knoxville, and Tim Shepherd and wife, Hazel, of Clinton; his special aunt and uncle, Bill and Mamie Beatty of Clinton; and by several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12, 2005, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. Joe Bridges officiating.
