From The Knoxville News Sentinel 18 Sep 2005 GAGE, CHARLES E. - 76, HERRELL, MARGARET RUTH ROBERTS - age 87, of Claxton, SHAW, CHARLES WALTER "DICK" - age 88 of Buchanan, Tenn., formerly of Lake City GAGE, CHARLES E. - 76, passed away quietly Friday, September 16 at Methodist Hospital of Oak Ridge with his son Randy at his side. Born February 4, 1929 in Philadelphia, TN., Charles was a life long resident of Roane County. A graduate of Kingston High School, he was employed at Oak Ridge's Y-12 for over 35 years. Over the years, he supported the community south of the river as an avid booster for sport activities at Midway High School, and for a time, as a store manager of Gage's IGA. He was the son of the late O. S. and Myrtle Taylor Gage and was also preceded in death by his sisters, Imogene "Jean" Patterson, and Billie Ann Price. Charles, known to his family as "Poppy" is survived by; his wife of 56 years, Captola Thompson Gage; their five children; eight grand children; and three great grand children. He was father to daughters; Lesyle Gage Davis, and Elizabeth Gage Johnson of Kingston; to sons and daughters-in-law; Randy and Ester Gage of Kingston, Bruce and Sherry Gage of Huntsville, AL, and Tim Gage of Kingston. An unassuming man with great love and compassion, he will be greatly missed. Graveside service 3 pm Sunday September 18, 2005 in Kingston Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Larry Bolden officiating. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Heiskell and taught the Ladies Sunday School Class for several years. Margaret is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Oliver E. Herrell; parents, John Henry and Sallie Walker Roberts; brothers, Earl and John Roberts; sister, Elizabeth Haney. Survivors: sons, David & wife Sharon Herrell of Claxton, Jim Herrell of Claxton, Robert & wife Bonnie Herrell of Claxton, Paul & wife Gladys "Pucci" Herrell of Andersonville; daughters, Jane & husband George Whaley of Knoxville, Mary Ruth & husband Steve Anderson of Claxton, Judy & husband Dale McDonald of Claxton; brother, Lloyd Roberts & wife Katie of Knoxville; sister-in-law, Hazel Roberts of Knoxville; grandchildren, Joseph, David, Derek, Jason Herrell, Debbie Rosa, Tim Herrell, Rob and Rick Herrell, Catherine Ellis, Teri Holmberg, Randy Whaley, Stephanie Mann, Joseph Anderson, Carla Golden, and Blanche Tuell; 26 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 PM, Monday, September 19, 2005 at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home. Her funeral service will be 2:00 PM, Tuesday, September 20, 2005 at Calvary Baptist Church of Heiskell with Rev. Harold Ogle and Rev. Joseph Herrell officiating. The burial will follow the funeral service at Zion Cemetery. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorials be made to The Gideons International, P.O. SHAW, CHARLES WALTER "DICK" - age 88 of Buchanan, Tenn., formerly of Lake City, passed away Friday, September 16, 2005 at the Henry County Hospital in Paris, Tenn. He was born February 26, 1917 in Anderson County, Tenn. to Lee and Frankie Parks Shaw. Mr. Shaw retired from Shell Gas Station in Lake City and moved to Paris, Ky. and lived in Wet Tenn. where he lived until his death. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, 3 sisters, Jesse Woods, Mae Weidman, and Rubye Elkins, 4 brothers, Harry, Tom, George, and Gene and one granddaughter, Michell Wildeman. Survivors: his wife, Catherine Riggs Shaw whom he married January 22, 1938, Buchanan; daughters, Patricia Wesley & husband, William, Buchanan, Wanda Cox, Knoxville; sons, Charles (Chuck) Shaw, Colorado, Bill Riggs & wife, Freta, Lake City, Sam Shaw & wife, Sue, Ozark, Ala.; grandsons, J.T. Duncan, Chuck Duncan, Robbie Wildeman, & Danny Shaw; granddaughters, Theressa Hill, Betsy Palm, Sarah Shiplett, Lisa Kenny, Gina Franklin, Lauren Hauk; 15 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren. Visitation 1-3 p.m. Sunday September 18, 2005 at the Hatmaker Funeral Home with funeral service 3 p.m. Sunday September 18, 2005 in the Hatmaker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Lane officiating. Interment to follow the funeral service at the Glen Foust Cemetery in Lake City.
