    2. From The Oak Ridger 21 Sep 2005 Nina Love Bettis, 83, of New Market, Tenn. Edward Fairstein, 82, of Oak Ridge, William Charles Gresham, 60, of Oak Ridge, Nevie J. Barton Jr., 63, of Clinton, Doris Ketner, of Clinton, Jennifer Norstedt, 43, of Oak Ridge, Nina Love Bettis, 83, of New Market, Tenn., peacefully passed away Thursday evening, Sept. 8, 2005, at home in the presence of her family, after an extended illness. She was a lifelong resident of Jefferson County, member of First Baptist Church of Jefferson City, and widow of World War II veteran, Curtis E. Bettis, who preceded her in death in 1993. They lived for 50 years on the Bettis family farm on Highway 92, and her greatest joys included farming, cooking, and time with her family. She was a leader in the Oakland Home Demonstration Club and the Oakland Community Center, and she retired from the Federal Land Bank in 1985. The youngest of nine children of the late Callie Collier and Henry Marshall Love, she is survived by her sister, Boodie Garrett of Oak Ridge; daughters, Linda McGoldrick and husband George, and Jill Newman and husband Ralph Newman Jr.; grandchildren, Ed Newman, Susan Huntsinger, Justin McGoldrick, Will Newman and Sara Jane McGoldrick; their spouses, Maria Newman, Russell Huntsinger, Carmen McGoldrick and Farrah Newman; great-grandchildren, Julia and Jack Newman, Harrison and Hudson Huntsinger, and John-Willis and Emmitt Newman; nephews, Jack Love and Mark Garrett, and other nieces and nephews of whom she was very fond. The family received friends Saturday, Sept. 10, 2005, at Farrar Funeral Home in Jefferson City. Family and friends gathered Sunday, Sept. 11, 2005, at Jefferson Memorial Gardens for a 2 p.m. graveside interment service with Dr. Gene Wilder officiating. Edward Fairstein, 82, of Oak Ridge, died Sunday, Sept. 18, 2005, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Born Dec. 14, 1922, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the oldest son of Sydney Samuel Fairstein and Katherine Bader Fairstein. Ed graduated from the City College of New York with a degree in electrical engineering. After college, Ed traveled to Oak Ridge to work in the Manhattan Project's Clinton Engineering District. He later joined an instrumentation group at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) headed by Cas Borkowski. At ORNL, Ed made dramatic improvements to nuclear instrumentation, developing the first bipolar pulse amplifier. In 1959, Ed and his former spouse, Helen Jernigan, formed a new company, Tennelec, to design and produce the highest quality products for nuclear science and medicine. The company developed a reputation as producing the "Rolls Royce" of nuclear instrumentation. In 1972, Ed was made a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). He also served as a consultant on NASA's Gamma Ray Observatory, the Atlas rocket program and the IEEE Nuclear Instrument Standards Committee. Ed was active in a number of local organizations including the Oak Ridge Industrial Board, Grove Development Corporation and the Friends of the Library. In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his brother, Alfred Fairstein. Ed is survived by his two sons, John and Joel Fairstein. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, 2005, at the Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church, 1500 Oak Ridge Turnpike. A memorial service will be held immediately following at 4 p.m. The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to the Children's Museum of Oak Ridge, P.O. Box 5766, Oak Ridge, TN 37831-5766. William Charles Gresham, 60, of Oak Ridge, passed away Monday, Sept. 19, 2005, at the Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Mr. Gresham was born July 20, 1945, in Cleveland, Tenn., to William and Kate Gresham, and moved to Oak Ridge at a young age. A veteran of the United States Army, he served in the Vietnam War. He was employed as a civil engineer with the Department of Human Services and had lived in Australia for 20 years, and moved back to Oak Ridge six years ago. He enjoyed sports and was a U.T. football fan. Preceded in death by his father William Gresham, he is survived by his wife, Susan Gresham of Oak Ridge; his mother, Kate Gresham of Oak Ridge; three children, Jeffery Gresham, Paul Gresham, and Phoebe Gresham, all of Australia; stepson, Nick Raskulinecz and his wife Amber of California; one brother, Frank Norman Gresham of Florida; three grandchildren; and one stepgranddaughter, Sophia Raskulinecz of California. A memorial service will be held at 8 p.m. Friday Sept. 23, 2005, in the chapel of Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. The family has requested that friends wear bright cheerful colors to the celebration of William's life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Oak Ridge Animal Shelter, 395 Belgrade Road, Oak Ridge, TN 37830. Barton Jr., 63, of Clinton, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2005, at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville. Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton is in charge of the arrangements, which were incomplete at press time. Doris Ketner, of Clinton, died Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2005, at St. Mary's Residential Hospice in Knoxville. Weatherford Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements, which were incomplete at press time. Jennifer Norstedt, 43, of Oak Ridge, died Wednesday morning, Sept. 21, 2005, at her home.
