From the Oak Ridger 26 Sep 2005 Althea Glenn Hackworth Fox, 88, a resident of the Dutch Valley community in Anderson County, Loretta Howe, 80, of Oak Ridge, Charles Marlow Jr., 82, of Clinton, Sylvia Russell, 85, a resident of Wartburg, June Smith Whitfield, 77, of Oak Ridge, Althea Glenn Hackworth Fox, 88, a resident of the Dutch Valley community in Anderson County, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, Sept. 25, 2005, following a short stay at the Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Mrs. Fox was born in Anderson County on April 15, 1917. She was a lifelong resident of this area. Her parents, now deceased, were Frank Hackworth and Pearl Guthrie Hackworth, who lived in the Dutch Valley community. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Charles E. Fox of the Dutch Valley community; daughters, Wanda Clark and husband Dave of Brentwood, Mildred Gough Newton and husband Glenn of Yuba City, Calif., and Wilma Justice and husband Donald of Oak Ridge; grandchildren, Andrew and Amanda Clark of Brentwood, Dana Baas, Sandra Poarch, and Sharon Milam of Oliver Springs, Jeree Sharp of Everette, Wash., Anna Dewitt of Yuba City, Calif., and Ginger Hamlin of Fairbanks, Ark.; and 11 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Fox and her husband attended Dutch Valley United Methodist Church. They lived on a farm in the Dutch Valley community, where she enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening. In addition, she also enjoyed watching the wildlife on the farm and making crafts. She cherished frequent visits from her family. The family will receive friends Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2005, between the hours of 1 and 3 p.m. at Sharp Funeral Home, with funeral services following in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Garvan Walls and the Rev. Brenda Poole officiating. Graveside services and burial will follow at Anderson Memorial Gardens. Sharp Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Loretta Howe, 80, of Oak Ridge, went home to the Lord on Sunday, Aug. 28, 2005, at Windwood Health and Rehabilitation Center in Clinton. She was born Oct. 6, 1924, in Evert, Ky., to J.B. and Bertha Arnold. She was preceded in death by her father and mother; two brothers, Jimmy and Billy Arnold; her first husband, Roger Johnson; and her second husband, Phil Howe. She is survived by her son, Larry Johnson, and her brother and his wife, Walter Ernie and Joetta Arnold, all of Oak Ridge. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2005, at 7 p.m. at New York Avenue Church of Christ in Oak Ridge. She donated her body to science in Memphis, Tenn. Charles Marlow Jr., 82, of Clinton, passed away Friday, Sept. 23, 2005, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge after being ill with lung cancer. Mr. Marlow was a long-time resident of Clinton and a retiree of Lockheed Martin Corporation as a security investigator with 40 years service. Charles also served as a staff sergeant during World War II with the 1st Armored Division under the command of General George S. Patton in both the Italian and North African Campaigns with the tank corps. Mr. Marlow was a member of Second Baptist Church and enjoyed fishing, mechanical repairs, woodworking and gardening. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Marlow Sr. and Grace Cox Marlow. He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Wanda Marlow of Clinton; sons, Gary D. Marlow and wife Antoinette of Clinton, and Peri A. Marlow of Clinton; grandchildren, Michelle Marlow, Michelle Tackett, Scot Marlow, Joseph "Jody" Marlow and Jesse Marlow; great-grandchildren, Amanda Marlow, Jordan Cullison, Kirsten Marlow and Brody Marlow; brother, Bill Marlow of Kingston; sister, Opal Gamble of Kingston; and by several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 26, 2005, at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home chapel, with funeral services following in the chapel with the Rev. George Williams officiating. The burial will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Woodhaven Memorial Garden. Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton is in charge of arrangements. Sylvia Russell, 85, a resident of Wartburg, passed away Thursday, Sept. 22, 2005, at her home. She was born March 24, 1920, in Crowder, Okla., moving to Oliver Springs in 1937, living in Wartburg for the past five years. Mrs. Russell was a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church where she was actively involved with the Bible Print Ministry. She visited nursing homes and made afghans for many nursing home residents. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Alvin Russell; by parents, Robert Duncan and Amanda Jane Cook Duncan; and by a granddaughter, Cindy Scott. She is survived by her daughters, Patsy Jo Carpenter and husband, Robert of Dayton, Ohio, Helen Kathryn Trimm and husband, Ed of Madison, Va., and Judy Lynn Russell of Wartburg; grandchildren, Sheila Book, Steve Gergely, and Donna, John and Frank Fox; great-grandchildren, Alyssa Scott and Madeline Argue, and Heather, Jennifer and Tiffany Book; brothers, Howell Duncan and wife, Mary Ruth of Oliver Springs, and Paul Duncan of Oliver Springs; sister, Madge Duncan of Arkomo, Okla.; several nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, 2005, at Sharp Funeral Home with funeral service following at 8 p.m. in the chapel with Pastor Garvan Walls officiating. Burial and graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25, 2005, at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Pisgah Printing Ministry, P.O. Box 341, Oliver Springs, TN 37840. Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs is in charge of the arrangements. June Smith Whitfield, 77, of Oak Ridge, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2005. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend to all. She had worked as a secretary at Glenwood Elementary School in Oak Ridge for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, E. W. Whitfield. Mrs. Whitfield is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Sonny and Debbie Whitfield of Athens, Tenn.; daughter and son-in-law, Johnny and Bunny Burgess of Oak Ridge; sister and brother-in-law, Bob and Ann Wise of Milledgeville, Ga.; six grandchildren, Gene Davis, Jamie Davis and wife Stephanie, Mindy Kessler and husband Michael, Manda Whitfield, Ashley Burgess, Jarrett Burgess; and several nieces and nephews. The family held a private graveside service.
