    2. From The Knoxville News Sentinel 20 Dec 2005 JOHNSON, HERSHELL CALVIN - WHITSON, WILLIAM C. (POP) - age 79 of Harriman, JOHNSON, HERSHELL CALVIN - passed away at his home, December 17, 2005. Born in Decatur, Alabama, December 1, 1938. He came to Knoxville at the age of two. Graduate of Austin High School, Class of 1956 and attended Roane State Community College after serving in the Air Force for four years; he retired with thirty years of service from Y-12 Nuclear Plant where he was employed as an electrician. He was a supervisor with the American Red Cross at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum for many years. He served as a volunteer with the disaster health and safety unit for forty three years. He taught scuba diving at the University of Tennessee Aquatic Center for fifteen years. He volunteered during the summer with the summer camp for children with Down Syndrome. Faithful member of the Tennessee Valley/James E. Derrick Elks Lodge 1152; former member of Tabernacle Baptist Church. Preceded in death by: mother, Mable Peebles; two brothers; three aunts; two uncles and grandparents. He leaves to cherish fond memories: loving and devoted aunt who raised him as a son, Phoebe Campbell; sister, Joyce Harris, Chicago, ILL; brothers, Charles E. Peebles, Kentucky; several half sisters and half brothers; many cousins to include devoted cousin, Mary Bates; three nephews; other relatives and friends to include very loyal and devoted friend, Elizabeth Snapp. Family will receive friends 11:30- 12:00 noon Thursday at Jarnigan's Chapel; funeral service 12:00 noon Rev. Dr. Harold A. Middlebrook, Eulogist. Interment Tennessee State Veteran's Cemetery. Family will be at the home of Mrs. Phoebe Campbell, 2817 Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue. Arrangements by Jarnigan & Son Mortuary. WHITSON, WILLIAM C. (POP) - age 79 of Harriman, passed away Monday December 19, 2005 at Roane Medical Center. He was a special well-loved member of the community who loved the Lord. He served his country in the Navy during WWII. Survivors: daughters, Doris Hawn & husband Jimmy of Lancing, Tina Whitson of Harriman; son, Curtis Whitson & wife Lou of Lancing; sisters, Rachel Clark & husband Arvel of Harriman, Linda Jones & husband Curtis of The Villages, Fl; brother, Joe Whitson & wife Roseanne of Cleveland, Tn; grandchildren, Jarrod Whitson of Harriman, Lindsey Whitson of Harriman, Frankie Burgess of Harriman; special nieces, Pat Vaughn & husband James, of The Villages, Fl, Gail Seiber & husband Bill of Harriman. Funeral 8 pm Wednesday at Kyker Funeral Home Chapel in Harriman with Brother Rick Taylor officiating. Interment 11 am Thursday at Willard Park Cemetery.
