LUCY JANE PIERCE - age 102, a resident of North Chamberlain Avenue, Rockwood, TN formerly of Harriman, TN died Wednesday, December 14, 2005 in the Rockwood Care and Rehabilitation Center. She was born December 10, 1903 in Montlake, TN. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Rockwood; a life member of the Parent Teacher's Association; a member of NU Delta Kappa Gamma; a member of the Roane County Retired Teacher's Association and the recipient of the Golden Apple Award. She taught Sunday School, worked with the young people, and organized a Girl Scout Troop in Rockwood. "Miss Lucy" (as she was known to all graduated from Rockwood High School in 1921; attended East Tennessee State College; and graduated from Peabody College with a BA degree. She started teaching in 1921 at Mt. Union in Cumberland County. From 1922 to 1931 she taught at Rockwood Junior High School; and from 1931 until her retirement in 1963 she taught at Harriman High School, the last 25 years as a librarian. "Miss Lucy" loved her students and was loved by her students for the love, concern and guidance she gave them. She was preceded in death by: her husband, H.C. Botkin; parents, William & Maria Tauscher Pierce; sisters, Florence Pierce, Ida Mae Pierce, Rev. Dora Pierce, Flora Hood, Edith March, Mary Scott, and Amanda Pierce; brothers, John Pierce and Ernest Pierce; and step-son, Hilburn Botkin. Survivors include: sister-in-law, Marie Pierce of Rockwood, TN: brother-in-law, Tom Scott, Sr. of Rockwood, TN; step daughter-in-law: Mary Botkin of Harriman, TN; 3 nieces; 5 nephews; 5 step grandsons. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oak Ridge and was very active with the White Elephant Ministry. She is preceded in death by: her husband, Allen L. Fournie. Allen was a veteran of the United States Navy having served in World War II; parents, John T. & Winnifred Kearns Gahagan; brother, John T. RATJEN, RUBYE PATTY - 91 of Show Low, Arizona, and a former resident of Oak Ridge from 1950 to 2004, passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2005, in Show Low. She was born July 21, 1914, in Knoxville to Charles F. and Sally Corum White who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by: her husbands, Carl U. Patty and Harold J. Ratjen; a daughter, LaVerne Patty Jackson; a grandson, Michael Strandquist; three sisters, and a brother. She retired from Union Carbide in 1977 after 21 years of service. She is survived by: her daughters: Patricia Patty Febbo of Oak Ridge; Willistene Patty Strandquist and husband Carl of Lakeside, Arizona; Carlene Patty Scholtz who was her caretaker in Show Low and husband Dennis, and a step- daughter, Joan Wallace and husband, Preston, of Oak Ridge. Rubye has 18 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Tiny White and two brothers Bill White and Charles and wife Joann White all of Knoxville. Very special friends were Lon Edds, Betty Brewer, Betty Fox and Phyllis Smith. The funeral service will be held on Sunday, December 18, 2005, at 2:00 p.m at Weatherford Mortuary. WOOD, C.J. - age 82 of Clinton, passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2005 at St. Mary's Hospital after complications of Alzheimer's and Diabetes. He was known to his friends as, "Jim." C.J. loved fishing and sports and was a professional baseball and softball umpire. He was a retired Master Sergeant with the United States Army after 29 1/2 years of service and also served in World War II, Korean Conflict, and Vietnam for which he received the Bronze Star. After retirement he operated the Tastee Freeze in South Clinton back in the early 1970's. C.J. is preceded in death by: parents, John Henry and Media Galbraith Wood; brothers, Robert Wood and Everett Wood; sisters-in-law, Nell Wood and Ella Ruth Wood; sisters, Nora Lee Wood and Helen Hartman; step son, Harry Madison.
