From the Oak Ridger 2 Nov 2005 Jessica Lynn Swindeman, 34, of Knoxville, Ernest Steven "Doc" Combs, age 77, of Oak Ridge, Jessica Lynn Swindeman, 34, of Knoxville, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2005, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Knoxville. She was a loving mother, faithful wife and devoted daughter. She was born Aug. 15, 1971, in Painesville, Ohio, the beloved daughter of Lee and Marilyn Tillman Russell of Leesburg, Fla., who survive her. Jessica graduated from the University of Dayton (Ohio) in 1993 with a degree in finance and subsequently moved to Knoxville. During her years in Knoxville, she worked for Vanderbilt Mortgage, Clayton Communities, SunTrust Bank, Ladies of Charity and GC Services. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Ladies of Charity. She enjoyed reading novels by author Patricia Cornwell. Her greatest love was her family. She also loved children and was an avid animal lover. She was preceded in death by a sister, Jennifer Gavelda of Painesville, Ohio. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her beloved husband of 12 years, John Edward Swindeman; 6-year-old daughter, Elena, who was the love of her life and a kindergarten student at St. Joseph's School; godson, Andrew Thornton of Lenoir City; brother, Lee "Doug" Russell of Naples, Fla.; sisters, Elaine Luers, husband Martin, and their children, Joey, Tommy, Matt, Elizabeth and Benjamin; and goddaughter, Kathleen of Lebanon, Ohio, and Lisa King, Rich and their children Billy, Kaylee, Kevin and Michael of Naples, Fla.; brothers-in-law, Thomo Gavelda and his children Donnie, Matthew and Jacob of Painesville, Ohio, and Michael Swindeman, wife Lisa and their children, Peter, Julia and Emily of Liberty Township, Ohio; sister-in-law, Catherine Hilty, husband Jim and their son, James of Knoxville; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Adrienne and Robert Swindeman of Oak Ridge; aunt, Harriet Cucchiara of Painesville, Ohio, and uncle, Jim Dwyer and Aunt Margaret Dwyer of Sydney, Australia; and dear friends, Bob Schilling of Oak Ridge, Thomas Thornton of Crossville, and Linda Kochenderfer of Knoxville, as well as many other dear friends and extended family. Vine Avenue in Knoxville with the Rev. James Brucz officiating. A reception will follow immediately afterward in the church Parish Hall. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, Dec. 8, 2005, at 3 p.m. at Oak Ridge Memorial Park with the Rev. Dan Whitman officiating. The family asks that any memorials be in the form of contributions to St. Joseph's School, 1810 Howard Rd., Knoxville, TN 37918-0379, or to the Knoxville Zoo, PO Box 6040, Knoxville, TN 37914.
