From The Oak Ridger 28 Dec 2005 J.B. Dykes, age 68, of Daytona Beach, Fla. Jessica Sanders, 23, of Oak Ridge, J.B. Dykes, age 68, of Daytona Beach, Fla., left the bonds of this world on December 21, 2005, following an extended illness. He was born on August 10, 1937, the son of Oscar and Erma Dykes. He was a member of the Elizabethton High School Class of 1956. He served in the United States Air Force from 1956 to 1964. Most of his life was dedicated to public service in law enforcement. He served on the Elizabethton and Oak Ridge, Tennessee, police departments; Harrison County, Mississippi, sheriff's department; and the Richmond County, Georgia, sheriff's department, where he also served as sheriff. He graduated from the FBI Academy's 86th session in 1970. After retirement from law enforcement, he managed hotels along Florida's east coast. Mr. Dykes was preceded in death by his father, Oscar Dykes, and a son, Douglas Glenn Dykes. Survivors include his mother, Erma Dykes of Elizabethton, Tenn.; his wife, Mary Anne Dykes of Daytona Beach, Fla.; a brother and his wife, Mack and Donna Dykes of Kingsport, Tenn.; two sons and their wives, Don and Rhesa Dykes of Johnson City, and Mark and Kim Dykes of Berea, Ky.; a daughter-in-law, Angela Weisgarber of Clinton, Tenn.; a stepson and his wife, Todd and Joyce Vinke of Savannah, Ga.; a stepdaughter and her husband, Robin and Rob Hooper of Daytona Beach, Fla.; and 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A memorial service for Mr. Dykes will be held at 8 p.m. on Thursday, December 29, 2005, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home with Dr. Roc Collins officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions may be made in honor of Mr. Dykes to the Appalachian Christian Camp, 512 Cross Circle, Unicoi, TN 37692-4439. Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, is in charge of arrangements. Jessica Sanders, 23, of Oak Ridge, passed away Saturday, December 24, 2005 at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
