    2. >From The Oak Ridger 6-7 Sep 2007 John "Jack" Joseph Dillon Carl Richard Kelly, age 85, of Clinton, Roy "Denny" McGinnis, age 59, of Knoxville, Sammy Keith McNeeley, 52, of Oliver Springs, Donna June Michelson, 81, of Hendersonville, Tenn., formerly of Oak Ridge, Jimmie Lee Sadler, 99, longtime Oak Ridger, Howard Samuel Schwartz, age 74, of Lenoir City, Tenn., Richard Lendell Davis, age 63, a resident of Loudon, Tenn., Robert C. Mason, 74, of Oak Ridge, Gary David Russell, age 51, a resident of Oak Ridge, and formerly of Oliver Springs, Lily Victoria Rust, of Oak Ridge, Patriot, outdoorsman, coach, and family man, John "Jack" Joseph Dillon passed away June 18, 2007, in Crossville, Tenn. He was born Dec. 30, 1932, in Nanticoke, Pa., but resided in many parts of the country including Norfolk, Va., State College, Pa., Hayward, Calif., Corrales, N.M., Oak Ridge, Tenn., and most recently, Crossville, Tenn. After graduating from Penn State in 1953, he served his country for most of his professional career. He served in the U.S. Navy as a hardhat diver and was honorably discharged as Lieutenant JG. After his military service, he worked for a number of government defense contractors as a metallurgical engineer on a variety of classified projects. He retired from the Metallurgical Development Department at the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant after 28 years. He felt that the most satisfying part of his career was the opportunity to help develop the skills of the people who worked for him. However, Jack's life can't be measured by his professional accomplishments alone. Jack was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed camping, hiking, horseback riding, SCUBA diving, target shooting, riding ATVs, and white water rafting. Somehow, he also found time for bowling and golf. He also enjoyed and excelled at more cerebral activities such as chess and duplicate bridge. In addition to these activities, he always found time to help others. He coached football at the Boys Club of Oak Ridge for nearly a decade and received a "Coach of the Year" award. He also taught target pistol shooting in Kingston, Tenn. He leaves behind Kay, his loving wife for over 52 years. He is also survived by his sons, Kean and John; beautiful granddaughters Kaylea, Kendra and Jacqueline; and close friends, Larissa, David, Richey and Mat Howe. On Sept. 2, 2007, family and friends gathered in Crossville, near the cabin he loved, for a ceremony commemorating his life. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. Carl Richard Kelly, age 85, of Clinton, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2007, at the Baptist Hospital in Knoxville. Carl participated in the D-Day invasion of Normandy as a member of 29th Infantry Division, one of the assault divisions on Omaha Beach. He was a member of Edgemoor Baptist Church and retired from A.E.C. in Oak Ridge after 30 years of service. In his retirement years, he enjoyed farming and his mules. He was preceded in death by wife, Eddie Kelly; parents, Tom and Maggie Newton Kelly; brothers, Cush, Bill and Earl Kelly; and sisters, Bess Powell, Georgia Murray, and Mary Collins. Survivors: son, Carl Richard Kelly Jr. of Clinton; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, 2007, at Holley Gamble Funeral Home with funeral services following in the chapel with the Rev. Tom Byrge officiating. Roy "Denny" McGinnis, age 59, of Knoxville, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2007, at Fort Sanders Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville. He was a member of Tekoa Baptist Church. Mr. McGinnis is survived by his wife of 30 years, Edna McGinnis; his children, Billie Jo Brown, Denna Woods, Eddie Higgins, and Alaina Rose; nine grandchildren; his mother, Beulah D. McGinnis; and three sisters, Gladys Edwards, Charlotte Woullard, and Shirlene Bolen. Family and friends will meet at 12:30 p.m. Friday at Mynatt Funeral Home Fountain City and proceed to Tennessee State Veteran Cemetery for a graveside service at 1:30 p.m., with Pastor Bill Dean officiating. Sammy Keith McNeeley, 52, of Oliver Springs, went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2007. He was born Jan. 28, 1955, in LaFollette, the son of Sam Oria McNeeley and Wanda Ola Lynch McNeeley of Oak Ridge. He was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church and an avid NASCAR fan. He and his wife enjoyed riding rail buggies, four-wheeling and camping. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife of 25 years, Shirley Marie Watson McNeeley; son, Sammy Keith McNeeley, Jr. and wife, Scarlett, of Oak Ridge; brothers, David McNeeley and Timmy McNeely, both of Oak Ridge; sister-in-law, Patsy Armes of Oak Ridge; grandchildren, Meredith McNeeley and Evelyn McNeeley; and nephews, Joshua McNeeley, a seventh grader at Robertsville Middle School, and Wesley Armes of Oak Ridge. Funeral services are Friday, Sept. 7, 2007, at 8 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary with Dr. Steve McDonald and Dr. Bruce Robinson officiating. Graveside services are Saturday at 1 p.m. at Anderson Memorial Gardens. Donna June Michelson, 81, of Hendersonville, Tenn., formerly of Oak Ridge, died on Sept. 1, 2007, in Hendersonville. She was born on May 24, 1926, in Ely, Minn., to parents Orvin F. Coombe and Clare Larson Coombe. Mrs. Michelson retired from Union Carbide Corporation, X-10 facility, as a chemist. Mrs. Michelson came to Oak Ridge after graduating from college, in 1946. While living in Oak Ridge, she attended Robertsville Baptist Church, was an avid gardener, and a lover of animals. She moved to Hendersonville in November 2006 to be near her son and family. Survivors include her son, Frank Edward Michelson and wife, Monica, of Hendersonville; grandson, Montana; and cousin, Bobbie Eblin of Lenoir City A graveside service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2007, at 10 a.m. at Oak Ridge Memorial Park, Garden of Memories, with the Rev. Jack Sills officiating. An online guest book may be signed at www.weatherfordmortuary.com. Jimmie Lee Sadler, 99, longtime Oak Ridger, died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2007 at Briarcliff Health Care Center. She was born March 21, 1908, in Franklin, Tenn., the daughter of James Marion Ragsdale and Floylee Harris Ragsdale. She was a homemaker and member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where she had been very active in church activities, including the W. S. C. S. Circle and helping in the Sunday school classes. She had also been a member of the Order of the Eastern Star No. 390. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob J. Sadler; brothers, Herman, Hollis and Charles Ragsdale; and daughter, Melva Jean Splawn. She is survived by son, Wayne Douglas Sadler. As a child, her son contracted spinal meningitis resulting in his deafness and his legs paralyzed. Doctors told her that he would never walk again. Mrs. Sadler worked with her son extensively and after a long and laborious therapy and motivation, he regained normal use of his legs. Mrs. Sadler is also survived by cousins, Pearl Gleason and Sandy Collins, both of Manchester, Tenn.; two step-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services are Friday, Sept. 7, 2007, at 1 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Amy Cook and the Rev. Bailey Norman officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. An on-line guest book can be signed at www.weatherfordmortuary.com. Howard Samuel Schwartz, age 74, of Lenoir City, Tenn., passed away Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2007, at Fort Sanders Loudon. Mr. Schwartz was born Nov. 14, 1932, in Bronx, N.Y., to George and Pearl Coppersmith Schwartz who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Louis Schwartz. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and enjoyed coaching and umpiring in the summer leagues. He also enjoyed working around the house, but his family and grandkids were his love. Mr. Schwartz is survived by his wife, Shirley Ann Liebman Schwartz, of Lenoir City; three sons and daughters-in-law, Mark Peter Schwartz and his wife, Cindy, of Nashville, Tenn., Frank Lester Schwartz and his wife, Lori, of Marietta, Ga., Michael Steven Schwartz and his wife, Kathy, of Philadelphia, Pa. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Jared, Samuel, Katie, and Jordan. The funeral will be Thursday, Sept. 6, 2007, at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home with Rabbi Victor Rashkovsky officiating. Interment will follow at Beth El cemetery. Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements The Oak Ridger 7 Sep 2007 Richard Lendell Davis, age 63, a resident of Loudon, Tenn., died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2007, at Fort Sanders Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville. Mr. Davis was born Feb. 18, 1944, in Queens, New York. He lived most of his life in Indianapolis, Ind. He has lived in Tennessee for the past 7 years. Mr. Davis served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He is a member of the Veterans Of Foreign Wars and the American Legion of Loudon, and a member of the West Lafayette Indiana 40 & 8 Military Veterans. Richard owned and operated Davis Repair Service for over 25 years. He was preceded in death by his father, William Davis, and a brother-in-law, Jerry Cox. Mr. Davis is survived by his mother, Joyce Davis of Indianapolis, Ind.; his daughters, Sharon Davis of Oliver Springs and Kimberly West and husband, Craig, of Knoxville; his son, Roger McGhee and wife, Carla, of Lenoir City, Tenn.; and eight grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Sharon Ebert of Cicero, Ind., Sandy Cox of Brownsburg, Ind., Ileene Davis of Indianapolis, Ind., Coleen Agee of Lebanon, Ind., Jodi Davis of Indianapolis, Ind.; and a special friend, Bobby Joe Stevens of Loudon. A resident of Oak Ridge since 1980, he was born in Melrose, Mass., on Feb. 1, 1933, the son of Margaret Adeline Culleton and Charles Stanton Mason, who are both deceased. Robert served over 27 years in the United States Air Force. He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars. An accomplished pilot, he flew various military fighter and transport aircraft. After retiring to Oak Ridge, he worked as manager of technology for Bechtel International and later as director of Waste Management and Remedial Engineering for Oak Ridge National Laboratory. He is survived by his wife Ann; daughters, Pamela Mason Shearer and husband, Thomas, and Kym Reed and husband, Daniel; four grandchildren, Kasey, Katlin and Kristina Reed and Megan Shearer; and cousins, Richard Cefrey and Donald McLellan. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, 2007, at Weatherford Mortuary. Gary was born Feb. 14, 1956, in Oliver Springs. He was a lifelong resident of this area. Mr. Russell was employed at South Land Excavating of Knoxville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew Russell and Ruth Edmonds Russell. He is survived by his son, Gary Joe Russell and wife, Cassie, of Oak Ridge; daughter, Amber Ward of Lenoir City; stepdaughters, Audra Blackburn of Andersonville and Brandin Gage of Lenoir City; stepson, Chris Rowe of Lenoir City; and his granddaughter, Savannah Russell of Oak Ridge. He is also survived by his sisters, Shirley Goodman of Oliver Springs, Roberta "Fluttie" Blackstock and husband, Toby, of Kingston, and Sheila Ward of Oak Ridge; and by nieces, nephews, and cousins, who loved him dearly, and a host of special friends.
