>From the Oak Ridger 2 Aug 2007 Mrs. Mildred Thompson Martin Callihan of The Pines at Davidson, N.C., Deborah Newman Ford, 55, of Oak Ridge, Marcia Hazel, age 36, of Claxton, Eva Marie Miller, age 93, a resident of Oliver Springs, Joseph Heyden Stewart Jr., 78, of Oak Ridge, Mrs. Mildred Thompson Martin Callihan of The Pines at Davidson, N.C., and formerly of Oak Ridge, Tenn. and Huntington, W. Va., died peacefully in her sleep on July 17, 2007. She was 91. Born April 12, 1916 in Loranger, La., she was the daughter of Fred and Beulah Thompson. Out of eight brothers and sisters, she is survived by one sister, Lela Schilling of Ponchatoula, La. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, JoAnn Thompson of Fresno, Calif. Mrs. Callihan grew up in Loranger, La., and graduated from Southeastern Louisiana College in Hammond, La., as a teacher. She was preceded in death by her first husband of 36 years, Dr. Donald C. Martin of Huntington, W. Va., and by her second husband of 19 years, Dr. A. Dixon Callihan, of Oak Ridge, Tenn., and The Pines at Davidson, N.C. Survivors include two daughters: Dr. Virginia Dalton of Tucson, Ariz., and Nancy Chikes and her husband, Peter, of Concord, N.C.; four grandchildren: Lisa Chikes Ostema and her husband, Larry, of Concord, N.C.; Jennifer Chikes of Los Angeles, Calif.; Pete Chikes and his wife, Lindsay, of Durham, N.C.; and Paul Chikes of New York City, N.Y.; and one great-grandchild, Charlotte Jennifer Ostema. Mrs. Callihan enjoyed gardening, playing bridge, traveling, and dancing. She loved children and for many years was a teacher and director of the preschool at Enslow Park Presbyterian Church and then St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Huntington, W. Va. In Huntington, she was also active in her church, First Presbyterian, and several clubs including Faculty Wives Club of Marshall University, Huntington Woman's Club, and the Cotillion Club. When she was older, she attended Elderhostels and traveled widely by train in the U.S. and Europe. We will always cherish her sense of humor and her many gifts of kindness. She truly was a Southern belle. The family wishes to thank The Pines' staff for their many years of care and friendship. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, 2007, at Raymer Funeral Home in Huntersville, N.C., with visitation following the service. Burial will be at White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Barboursville, W. Raymer Funeral Home, Huntersville, N.C., is serving the family. Deborah Newman Ford, 55, of Oak Ridge, died Aug. 1, 2007, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Ms. Ford was a native of Soddy Daisy, Tenn., and the daughter of the late Claude and Hazel Newman of Soddy Daisy. She lived in Oak Ridge for the past 25 years. She was a member of the Oak Ridge Church of God. She enjoyed playing with her dog, Lexy, and sightseeing all around the city. Ms. Ford is survived by a son, Zachary Ford, and his wife, Elizabeth, of Oak Ridge. Her daughter, Carla Ford, also lives in Oak Ridge. Ms. Ford is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Betty Bandy of Harriman and her husband, James, and Mary Jo Ellis of Lenoir City and her husband, Leroy. She is survived by a brother, Roy L. Newman, and his wife, Jean, of Soddy Daisy. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held Friday, Aug. 3, 2007, at 8 p.m. in the chapel of Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home with the Rev. Ottis Ball officiating. Interment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, 2007, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends form 6 until 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Marcia Hazel, age 36, of Claxton, passed away Tuesday, July 31, 2007, at her residence after a courageous battle with cancer. She attended Second Baptist Church in Clinton. She was employed at National Partitions, where she was supervisor of accounts receivable. She was preceded in death by grandparents, R. L. and Juanita Adkins and Eule and Annie Lou Carter. Survivors include her daughter, Haley Hazel of the Claxton community; Mother and "Dad," Sherry Nolan and husband, Tom, of Clinton; father, Jimmy Carter and wife, Sandy, of Maryville; brother, Tony Carter and wife, Shirley, of Kingston; fianc , Donavan Brown of Claxton and his mother, Ruby Williams of Knoxville; fianc 's sister, Angie Foust and husband, Larry, and their children, Michael and Bret Foust of Clinton; fianc 's cousin, Thomas Lawson of Vonore; special friends, Tammy McBride, Melinda DeRosa, Cynthia Jarnigan, Bob and Melody Hazel and the Hazel family; aunts, Selia Hardin and Frances Cox. Eva Marie Miller, age 93, a resident of Oliver Springs, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2007, at her home. Mrs. Miller was born Dec. 6, 1913, in Campbell County, Tenn. She moved to Oliver Springs in 1939. She was a homemaker, a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Mrs. Miller loved the Lord, her family, and all she knew. She was a faithful member of New Fairview Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, William W. Miller Sr.; by a daughter, Brenda Deloris Miller; by her parents, Lee Foster Hatmaker and Anna Mae Cooper Hatmaker; by three sisters, Esta Prater, Ermine Dagley, Katie Wilson; and by two brothers, Paris and Clayton Hatmaker.
