Downey, age 90 of Winter Haven, FL James E. Hutson, age 78 of Winchester, TN James Albert King, Jr., age 80, of LaFollette, Franklin D. Marlow, age 69 of Lafollette Robert Gordon Overbey, age 71, Joe K. Riggs Sr., age 53 of LaFollette John Wilhoit, Jr., age 83 of Loudon Opal Mae Adkins, age 95 of Jacksboro passed away Aug.12 at the St. Mary's Medical Center in Campbell County. She was a member of Redash Baptist Church. She enjoyed quilting, guarding, flowers, and loved her family very much. She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Adkins; sons, James, Roy, and Clifford Adkins; daughters, Anna Lou and Pauline Adkins; parents, Frank and Annie Miller Woods; brothers, Warren Woods and Hobert Miller; sister, Eva Adkins. She is survived by her son, Carl Adkins of Cincinnati, OH; son and daughter in law, Don and Sandy Adkins of Huntsville, AL; daughters and sons in law, Mildred and Bill Ulmer of Jacksboro, Christine and Ray Helferich of Cincinnati, OH, Barbara and JC Allred of West Carlton, OH, Geneva and Joe Perkins of Jacksboro; 13 grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and seven great great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.Funeral services were held Aug. 14 in the Martin Wilson Chapel with the Rev. Don Allen officiating. Interment was in the Campbell Memorial Gardens. Martin Wilson Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. LaFollette Press Aug. 16, 2007 Annie Mae Carr, age 96 of LaFollette, formerly of Morley passed away Aug. 4 at St. Mary's Medical Center of Campbell. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Sarah Elizabeth Carr and Joe Carr. She is survived by her sister, Mary Anderson of Jellico; nieces and nephews, Barbara (Jackie) Owens, Jim Anderson, Brenda (Stanley) Hale, Gary (Regina) Anderson, all of Jellico; special nieces, Hazel Taylor and family, Terry, Donna and Daniel, all of LaFollette. Funeral services were held Aug. 6 at the Llewellyn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Horace Partin officiating. Interment was in the Bolton Cemetery. Llewellyn Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. LaFollette Press Aug. 16, 2007 Cordell Davis, age 63 of LaFollette went home to be with His Lord and Savior on Aug. 12. He was born on January 8, 1944 on Peach Orchard in Whitley County Kentucky, the son of Buddie and Grace Osborne Davis. His parents purchased a farm in Frakes, Ky when he was an infant. He was raised on the farm and attended school at Lower Laurel Fork Community School. He went to Dekalb, Ill in the summer of 1963 to work. He married Patricia Pinion on Jan. 11, 1964. They raised their family in Dekalb. He worked for Turner Brass Company, Anaconda Wire and Cable in Sycamore, Ill and Spradlin Company in Dekalb, before settling in the LaFollette area in 1991. He retired from Jones Brothers Contractors in Knoxville on Jan. 8, 2006. He loved his family very much and he has been enjoying his family and his retirement to the fullest. He will be missed so very much, he was loved so very much by his family and friends. He loved the mountains and was an active outdoor sportsman. He loved four wheeling, hunting, riding his motorcycle, and was always busy working on different projects. He taught his grandsons the joy and excitement of outdoor adventures through the mountains. He was saved by grace when he accepted the Lord Jesus Christ into his life and heart on April 28, 1996 at the Bethlehem Baptist Church.He was preceded in death by his parents, Buddie and Grace Osborne Davis; daughter, Samantha Davis; son, Shane Davis; brother, Fred Davis; sisters, Georgia Martin, Hazel Davis, Lela Davis; brothers in law, Clifford (Dob) Brown, Rev. Clarence Lambdin and Ray Parker; nephews, Dewey and Ronnie Davis. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Patricia V. Davis; daughter, Rebecca (Becky) Tipton and husband, Mark; grandchildren, Dakota Davis and Alexis Tipton all of LaFollette, Kyle Shane Davis of DeKalb, Ill, Payton Samantha Davis of Yorkville, Ill; daughter in law, Debbie Davis of Yorkville, Ill; brothers, Damon Davis and wife, Lorene, Ben Davis and wife, Levada, all of Middlesboro, KY; sisters, Mariam Brown of Sevierville, Edith Lambdin of Harrogate, Ida Mae Parker of Middlesboro, KY, Maxine Kennedy and husband, Steve of LaFollette; many, many, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Funeral services were held Aug. 15 in the Martin Wilson Chapel with the Rev. Bill Braden officiating. Interment will be at 11 a.m. on Aug. 16 in the Bethlehem Cemetery. Martin Wilson Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. LaFollette Press Aug. 16, 2007 Harold H. Downey, age 90 of Winter Haven, FL passed away Aug. 3 at his home in Florida. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy and former owner and pharmacist of Downey Drug Store in Jellico. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betsy Jane Llewellyn Downey. He is survived by his daughter, Patricia Paulson and husband, David of Indialantic, FL; half-sister, Nan Lake of Ormond Beach, FL; brother in law, Jerry R. Llewellyn and wife, Mary Ruth of Jellico; several nieces and nephews. Graveside services were held Aug. 8 in the Jellico Cemetery with the Rev. Ray Landes officiating. Llewellyn Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. LaFollette Press Aug. 16, 2007 James E. Hutson, age 78 of Winchester, TN passed away Aug. 5. He was retired from Redstone Arsenal as an ammunitions instructor at the Army missile command. He was ordained as a Baptist minister in 1958 and pastored churches in Dayton, OH, central Tennessee and North Alabama. He was a member of Elora Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Penelope Ruth Hutson; son, Jeffrey Scott Hutson. He is survived by his wife, Blanche Parks Hutson of Winchester, TN; son, Jim Hutson of Tuscaloosa, AL; daughter, Vickie (Dwight) Everett of Leighton, AL; granddaughter, Jill (Jeff) Myers of Scottsboro, AL, Mitchell Hutson of Athens, AL and Bryce Hutson of Athens, AL. Funeral services were held Aug. 8 at the Berry Hill Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Larry Bolden and Rev. Dwight Everett officiating. Interment was in the Valhalla Cemetery. He was born Sept. 22, 1926, at King Mountain, TN, and was a member of East LaFollette Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Albert and Nannie Williams King; brother, Edward King; sisters, Beulah White, Carolyn Davis Lela Gordon; granddaughter, Angie Longmire Williams and great-granddaughter, Amanda Williams. He is survived by his wife, Gladys Little King; daughter, Ann Green of LaFollette; son, Danny B. He was a member of Anthers Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the US Army. He also was a retired auto mechanic especially in transmissions. He enjoyed gardening and fishing. He was preceded in death by his father, Banner Marlow; brothers, LB, Albert, Jonah, George and Donnie Marlow. LaFollette Press Aug. 16, 2007 Robert Gordon Overbey, age 71, passed away Aug. 13 at Ruby Memorial Hospital. He was born in Matoka, West Virginia on Dec. 11, 1935. He was the son of William K and Ruth Ann Cline Overbey. He graduated from Big Creek High School at War West Virginia in 1953. In 1954, Bob was stricken with Traumatic Hydrocephalus and was handicapped from that point on in his life. He was a newspaper correspondent for the LaFollette Journal for 14 years. After the death of his father, he and his mother moved to Morgantown. He was a resident of Madison Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for 16 years. While living at Madison, he dictated poetry and essays about his observations of everyday life. Bob's life, while physically confining, was rich and full. He was made a blood brother in the Cherokee Nation while living in Tennessee and was a source of wit, counsel, and spiritual strength to many who came in contact with him. He is survived by his brother and sister in law, William and Sandra Overbey of Morgantown; niece and spouse, Cintara and John Rice of Morgantown; nephews and spouses, Grant and Lisa Overbey of Charlotte, NC, Shawn and Jackie Overbey of Cleveland, OH, Jason, Justin, and Jacob Rice and Lauren and Sarah Overbey also survive him. LaFollette Press Aug. 16, 2007 Joe K. Riggs Sr., age 53 of LaFollette passed away Aug. 9 at his home. He was a wonderful husband and father who could never do enough for those he loved. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henderson and Frances Bolinger Riggs; sister, Teresa Bramblett; nephew, Little Danny Oneal Hill.He is survived by his wife, Marie Riggs of LaFollette; sons, Joe Riggs II and Jenn of Sacramento, CA, Ethan Colby Riggs of LaFollette; daughters, Heather Riggs and fiancé, Dave Bernhardt of Sitka, Alaska, Amanda and Fred Anderson of Duff; grandchildren, Olivia and Little Fred Anderson, Kendall Allen Bernhardt; one brother; sisters, Brenda Riggs and husband, Danny Marlow of Stinking Creek; special uncle, Lee Riggs and wife, Sharon of MI; several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. He was a 32 nd degree Mason #204 in Loudon and a veteran of the United States Army having served in World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carrie Wilhoit; parents, John and Cora Wilhoit; brothers, Elmer Wilhoit and Clyde Wilhoit. He is survived by his son, Bobby McPherson and wife, Brenda of AL; daughter, Carolyn Deason and husband, Robert of AL; grandchildren, Alan McPherson and wife, Susan, Brad McPherson and wife, Kelly, Grant Deason and wife, Beth, Katie Evans and husband, Joseph; great grandchildren, Hunter McPhearson, Harrison McPhearson, Logan McPherson, Emily Grace Deason and Kate Deason; brother, Homer Wilhoit of Dayton, OH; sister, Georgia Myers of LaFollette; several nieces and nephews.
