    1. Re: [TNSCOTT] Charles Chitwood and Rachel Crabtree
    2. The Cross Family
    3. My reason for asking about Rachel Crabtree's parentage is because I wondered if she might be this same Rachel living with Isaac and Pherba in the 1910 census. My ggf is Charlie Crabtree (son of Isaac and Pherba) and my great aunt Avis (age 79 and last surviving child of Charlie and Eliza Bauswell) remembers a Rachel in that family. I have been having an ongoing discussion since last spring about this family with some wonderful people I have met through this Scott County message board. Information on this family from other than oral sources is very hard to come by. I have taken the liberty of including excerpts from some of the information we have been mulling over this summer. Isaac Crabtree and William Abner Crabtree were apparently first cousins. Charley and Eliza moved here (Lawrence County, Indiana) sometime in the 1910's. Is it possible some of the Chitwoods came here also as we have several families living just across the county line into Monroe County? Maybe some of this will jog someone's memories. I would like to add that I think this and the Morgan County board are absolutely the greatest message boards I have ever followed. My wife (diabetic) passes along a big thank you to Allen Prunty for the recommendation on Dreamfields pasta. Following the messages is truly like listening to a big family conversation! Pretty ironic that my mother's Crabtree's are from Scott County while my dad's Cross family hails from the Wartburg area originally. 3. If anyone knows, would you please post it on this list? I am trying to find this information, too. One of Charles' sisters, Arbana "Bannie", also married a CRABTREE - John Albert CRABTREE - and I haven't been able to ascertain his parents, either. Have wondered if Rachel and John Albert CRABTREE might be sister / brother. Both Charles and "Bannie" are siblings of my grandmother, Charity CHITWOOD. Thanks. 3. Nancy, I have been working on this for you but all I have come up with is Rachel Crabtree, daughter of Isaac Crabtree and she married Jacob "Jake" Chambers May 20, 1900 but by 1910 she is a widow, age 35, living with her framily, Isaac and Pherby Crabtree. Charles is still in the HH of his family born May 1889 in 1900 census. I found and interesting side to this, that the persons living next door to Charley's family are William A. and Melvina Trammel Crabtree. This is my family. William A. had a son, John Albert born 1877 in Scott County and he was married to Bannie Chitwood. But...I cannot find a Rachel Crabtree in that family or any of the others, other than Isaac Crabtree. I am leaving tomorrow and will not be able to work on this until I return in a few days. But...there is always someone out there that knows this family. I ran through Rootsweb.com and I belong to Ancestry and they had nothing other than the names. I do not remember having a Rachel but then I have a lot on the family of James Crabtree son of Jesse. James is the father of William Abner Crabtree who married Melvina Trammel. O. "Sonny" CHITWOOD's book, Descendants of Matthias Chitwood. It shows Charles CHITWOOD (eighth child of Rev Joel C and Mary Jane TRAMMELL CHITWOOD) marrying (1) Rachel CRABTREE and producing these children: Laura, Mary Jane, Ray, and Madelene. (2) Stella MAXEY, and producing these children: MARSHALL, Doris, Helen ROBERT, and Shirley. Further, it shows Marshall marrying Arlene DUNCAN and producing Diane, Timmy, and Tommy. No further information on them, and no dates. Then it shows Robert marrying Gene HAMBY and producing Robin (who married a STRUNK), Jeffrey (b 1960, d 1980) and Felicia. And that's the total of what I know about them, although I sure would like to know more. I would guess that both Marshall and Robert are still living, and I am wondering if they are in the Scott County area. Do you know? I O Chitwood's book takes the family back to Matthias CHITWOOD, so if you have a copy, check it out. If you don't, let me know and I'll share the earlier information. That goes for everyone on the list. I'll be happy to do look-ups, but I *might* not get the information out until we have returned to Michigan from visiting your fair area. Keep me on your list of people happy to do look-ups in that book, though. My husband and I sat for 2 hours the last time we were there and went through each book They make copies for you also. The gift shop is Oneida Book and Gift Store, beside of Walmart. Sometimes they have a lot of the books, but didn t have many the last time we were there. The Doisy House is a must stop. My brother-in-law and his wife made a special trip to go there about a year ago and found wonderful stuff that we had been searching for for along time.
