I wish I knew what you guys were talking about. I don't know anything about a Flonnie's restaraunt. Where is it at? I am over in Scott Co. on a weekly basis and I just don't know where that is. Amanda LaFollette, TN </HTML>
To Rae, Don and Paul I want to send a big thank you. Paul sent me wonderful pictures. Don sent me a link that was unbelievable and within the site was a good time line that explained why grandpa was in some of the places at different times. Rae offered more pictures. You are all fabulous. Thank you very much. Marilyn -- What sunshine is to flowers, smiles are to humanity. I will take pictures for you while I am here. I will also see what info I can find. I am looking for any information and pictures of the depot in Oneida. I remember it as a two or three story gray building. My grandfather, William A. Scales, worked out of that depot at least during two different periods. He was there in 1913, as my father was born in Oneida, and again in 1920 as I found the family there on the 1920 census. In between he may have worked in the west. If anyone knows what may have happened to the records it would be welcome information. I know he was with Southern Railway as a lineman. I would be grateful for any and all help. Thank you in advance. Smiles, Marilyn -- What sunshine is to flowers, smiles are to humanity. Hello everybody, I am still in Scott County but can check my email now. We went to a Cabin for 4 days and a bear came to see us. Then yesterday we went 4-wheeling . I saw 2 Deer and was afraid I would see a bear but thank goodness I didn't. I found out that the Fireside has the best breakfasts ever. If anyone wants to meet there for breakfast one morning let me know. I can make it on Thursday or Friday Morning. Talk to you all soon. Allen & Mary, I too remember the North Star drive-in very well also. I know later on they started serving peanut butter milkshakes and it was an instant hit with everyone. Way back I knew an elderly lady that would take a cab every so often just to get a peanut butter milkshake! Don't get me started on the Rustic Park! he he I have some wonderful memories of that place. My mother was a good friend of the lady that worked there way back when. I know there are some people too young to remember "before interstate 75". My parents worked different times in IN. especially Ft. Wayne. We would take highway 27 from Scott Co. all the way to Ft. Wayne. They also worked in Florida when I was growing up and I know highway 27 goes into Florida a good ways. They were always big at stopping at tourist places (like rustic park) on the sides of 27 on these trips. We took all those places for granted back then and now they are pretty much a thing of the past. We also made a trip out West on the famous route 66 when I was kid. I could write book about that trip! he he Later, Dan Gibson> Date: Thu, 18 Oct 2007 09:04:01 -0400> From: maryakerman@gmail.com> To: tnscott@rootsweb.com> Subject: Re: [TNSCOTT] Scott County Museum> > Allen,> I remember the North Star very well. Allen, I remember the North Star very well. I was down there in August and I remember seeing School buses and other trucks parked. I think they were for sale...not sure about that. I miss the rustic park where all the "soveniers" were sold as you rounded the bend just below the North Star on the way to Oneida. I always knew when we got to "rustic park" log buildings we were getting close to Huntsville. My granny lived in Huntsville and there was no 75 south so we took 27 to 63 from Ohio. I remember my Cousin Judy McDonald taking me to North Star Drive in when I would visit when I was little. I thought it was the neatest place. Now it's a car dealership I think. Allen -----Original Message----- From: tnscott-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:tnscott-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Dan Gibson Sent: Thursday, October 11, 2007 9:31 AM To: tnscott@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [TNSCOTT] Scott County Museum Reading about "Flonnie's Drive-in" brought back so many memories. The drive in restaurant was a place where everyone went too from I think the the 50's on up. Any young couple on a date that lived in the southern part of Scott County (Robbins, Elgin, Brimstone, etc.) or the Huntsville, Norma, Straight Fork, Capitol Hill areas and of course some came down from Oneida would stop at Flonnies for hamburger, fries & coke. I remember Cherry Cokes were very popular. Back then there were car hops. There was also a jukebox on the outside under a small porch. The music came through a loud speaker connected to the building. It seems the jukebox belted out music all evening. I know I was there listening to the early songs of the Beatles. Back then Flonnie's Drive-In would be considered a typical 1950's drive-in restaurant. Over the years the place gradually changed I guess with the times and remained popular with the public. The drive-in was always located very close to the junction of Highway 27 & Highway 63. The lady (Flonnie) that owned and ran the place was my Dad's first cousin. Her maiden name was Washam. My Dad's name is Herstle Norman (Buck) Gibson. His mother, Maude Ethel (McCoy) Gibson and Flonnie's mother were sisters. For the life of me I can't think of Flonnie's married name or her husband's name right at the moment. Sometimes I think my "genealogy brain" shuts down for a few minutes every so often! he he Like I said the mention of Flonnie's Drive-In brought back some wonderful memories!
