    2. Rae, you are welcome. It is funny how many things are in the back of our mines, that come to surface when certain things trigger them. Like Margery said, those were the good old days. Everyone seemed to love shopping at Cooper's businesses. As a matter of fact there wasn't a lot other to choose from. He seemed fair enough, I suppose. People back then used to shop and enjoy doing it. Now things are in such a rush and so different. **************It's Tax Time! Get tips, forms, and advice on AOL Money & Finance. 2. Connie, The Coopers coin that you have was known as Coopers Script. Fate Cooper used it for his stores as an incentive for people to trade at his businesses. He had many, a grocery store, feed store, hardware, clothing, furniture, drug and also a funeral home. In other words, he owned a whole block, plus. I may have left out something, hard to remember it all, he had so many. I can still visualize it though. It has all been torn down now, I believe. The town has modernized a bit. Well, anyway after giving you all this info, I will tell you how the Script was earned and used. Everyone shopping at Cooper's business could save the store receipts and turn them into the office on second floor over the clothing store. They earned a percentage from the total of their receipts, for which they received the tokens called Cooper Script. I recall going up to second floor many times with my mother, for her to get her receipts added up and receive her script, which could be used as cash at any of the many Cooper businesses. Wilda Cecil Speck was the one that did this. She was also a cousin of my mother's and they would have a nice visit at the same time as she total up the receipts. Dorothy **************It's Tax Time! 3. Connie, Cooper's Store was begun by Eli Cooper and passed down to his son Lafayette, known as Fate. Eli (1849-1929) married Jemima Taylor and his sister Elizabeth married Reuben Taylor, Jemima's brother. Reuben and Elizabeth are my G-Grandparents. Eli was the son of Geo Wash Cooper/Emily Wilson and Jemima was the daughter of Dempsey Taylor/Anna Meadors. While I don't think you and I have corresponded before, I'm familiar with your name through Debbie Reynolds. 1. [TNSCOTT] Book of Interest
    2. marilyn E B
    3. I found this on another list and thought it might be of interest to others. Marilyn ----------------------------------------------------- There is a new book out that should be of interest to anyone whose family came early to Tennessee. it contains the places that DAR has marked patriots' graves - all they could find! Two ladies covered all of Tennessee looking for the graves that the various DAR Chapters have marked as being Rev Vet. DAR also marks houses of patriots, trees under which decisions were made, anything having to do with the Revolutionary War. So often I see inquiries saying families came into such-and-such county in TN way back there. This is the book for you!! My families lived in other states, so the book won't give me any help in finding my folks, but those whose families moved to TN may find the graves of their ancestors written up . There are some bios if the ladies found a colorful Vet's grave, there are discriptions of houses, walls, directions of how to get there. Your ancestor did not have to be from TN during the War, but if he and his family moved here at a later date, and he died here, chances are he is in this book !! The book is "Hisorical Markers," It is a large book, beautiful cover, 600+ pages. The price is $70.00 plus about $7.00 postage. To order write to: Dee Smothers, 2708 Buckner Road Thompson's Station, TN 37179-9277 DeeSmothers@aol.com ===== -- What sunshine is to flowers, smiles are to humanity. These are but trifles, to be sure; but, scattered along life's pathway, the good they do is inconceivable. ~ Joseph Addison (1672-1719)

    1. [TNSCOTT] Pre-1930 Bibles to be copied in Wartburg
    2. Julie Cromwell
    3. For those of you who are close enough, and have an old Bible dated before 1930, this might be of interest to you. We do need to preserve this information. --------- Noon-3 p.m. Saturday, April 5, 2008, Wartburg Public Library, 514 Spring St, Wartburg, Clinch Bend DAR with Morgan County Genealogical and Historical Society Volunteers photograph Bibles' family records that are often found on gilt-edged pages between the Old and New Testaments. Also photographed are each Bible's cover and title page. Tomes don't have to be from Tennessee; some originated in New York or Pennsylvania. There's no cost to the people who bring the books. The collected historic information will be transcribed and compiled on a DVD and in a printed book. That information will go to libraries across Tennessee to help people trace genealogy and to preserve history that might otherwise be lost.

    1. Re: [TNSCOTT] Morris Foster, Charles Phillips
    2. The best I can figure is that Morris Foster married Rhoda Carson 11-27-1840. I think they had at least 5 children: (1) John Foster married Clrarisa Ellis ...? They had son Morris who married Litha Hatfield. (2)?Sally Foster married Charlie Phillips (3)?Jennie Foster married Marion Duncan (4) James Foster (5) Bettie Foster married Calvin Thomas.?? Morris had several brothers that married Carsons.? ? -----Original Message----- From: John Carter <kj4mc@comcast.net> To: tnscott@rootsweb.com Sent: Mon, 10 Mar 2008 9:53 am Subject: Re: [TNSCOTT] Morris Foster, Charles Phillips Stephen, Charles is my 1st cousin 4 times removed ... and Morris Foster's son-in-law ... 3. Stephen I checked (available) censuses and found this: 1860 - 2nd Dist, Scott Co, TN: FOSTER, Morris - age 40 - born KY Roda - age 39 - born KY John - age 17 - born KY Jane - age 13 - born TN James - age 11 - born TN Elizabeth - age 9 - born TN ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1870 - 2nd Civil Dist, Scott Co, TN FOSTER, Morris - age 52 - born KY Rhoda - age 53 - born KY (Living with them is Henry FOSTER, age 26, farm hand - not sure he is a son...) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1880 - 8th Civil Dist, Scott Co, TN Foster, Morris - age 60 - born KY, father b KY, mother b KY Rhody - age 59 - born TN, father b TN, mother b TN ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1900 - 2nd Dist, Scott Co, TN FOSTER, Morris - age 77 - born Dec 1822 - widowed - living with: PHILLIPS, Charles - age 53 Sallie - age 55 Bettie - age 31 MORRIS - age 23 RHODA - age 21 James C (hard to read) - age 20 Lora - age 13 Burnette - age 15 Freeman - age 8 Morris FOSTER is shown as "father-in-law" - Sallie PHILLIPS' father? This census also shows Morris' birth date as December 1822. Since Charles and Sallie had a son, Morris plus a daughter, Rhoda, I would suspect a strong family connection. Happy hunting.
