Price Jr., 58, of Oak Ridge, Joseph Skorski, 79, of Oak Ridge, ===================================== Ida Meyerson Coveyou, 82, of Oak Ridge, died Thursday, May 29, 2003, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Born Ida Charlotte Meyerson on Oct. 19, 1920 in Chicago, Ill., she was the daughter of Joseph and Rena Meyerson. Mrs. Coveyou graduated in 1938 from Hyde Park High School in Chicago, after which she worked for several years in Chicago. On Sept. 25, 1943, she married Robert Coveyou and they came to Oak Ridge shortly thereafter. She was employed as a junior health physicist at the X-10 site of the Manhattan Project until 1948, when she left before the birth of her son. In the late 1950's, Mrs. Coveyou returned to college and received her bachelor's degree from the University of Tennessee in 1960. Later she also received a master's degree from UT. After graduation, she began a 40-year career as a teacher and tutor of remedial reading and mathematics. She was continuing to tutor two students up to the week before her death. She also taught among the first Adult Basic Literacy courses in Tennessee, and wrote and consulted on effective methods for teaching remedial reading. Her family said she took great pleasure in the progress of her students, first in their growing reading or math comprehension while she was tutoring them and then in their later lives. Throughout her time in Oak Ridge, her family said she expressed her passion for justice through involvement in social action, particularly related to racial justice. Early in Oak Ridge history, she worked with the Scarboro Day Care Center and the Scarboro High School. Later on, she was an active member and officer of the Oak Ridge Community Relations Council, an interracial civil rights group in Oak Ridge in the 1950's and 1960's. Mrs. Coveyou is survived by her son, Michael Coveyou and wife, Carolyn, of Des Moines, Iowa; her brother, Seymour Meyerson and wife, Lotte, of Asheville, N.C.; and by her sister, Sarah Houghton and husband, Harold, of Richmond, Calif. She is also survived by three nieces, Sheela Mierson and husband, Howard Stanfield, of Newark, Del., Elana Kann of Asheville, and Joy Weiner and husband, Jack, of Centreville, Va.; two nephews Oliver Houghton of Fremont, Calif., and Darrell Houghton of Boulder, Colo.; and by two grandnephews and one grandniece. Mrs. Dozier was an avid softball player and her family said she tremendously enjoyed singing with the Knaff Family and fishing. She was baptized by the late Rev. Maceo Roddy at Little Leaf Baptist Church in Oliver Springs at an early age and was an active member of the Junior Choir for many years. In her latter years, she became a very involved member of the Serenity Club of Oak Ridge. She thoroughly enjoyed taking care of her family and being of service to others. He was a native of Knoxvile and a resident of New Orleans since 1958. He was a retired merchant seaman and a parishioner of St. Louis Cathedral in New Orleans. He was preceded in death by his father, Ernest J. Rader and a daughter, Tee Frances Rader Panarello. Mr. Rader is survived by his wife, Dorothy Anne McDaniel Rader; a son, David E. Rader Jr. of New Orleans; three daughters, Jody Rader Battaglia and Joyce Freiler Rader, both of New Orleans, and Anne Frazier Rader of Ocklawaha, Fla.; his mother and step-father, Frances and Howard Lee of Oak Ridge; and by two sisters, Vivian Mimbs and Sue Hamlett, both of Oak Ridge. He is also survived by five grandchildren, two sisters-in-law, four brothers-in-law, and by several nieces, nephews and other relatives. Rex Lowe was born October 8, 1958 in Dayton, Ohio, the son of Emma Oakes and Kenneth William Lowe, Sr. He was the Owner and Operator of The Lifters Club Fitness Center in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. He served in The United States Marine Corps. He became rooted to the fitness needs of the Oak Ridge community in 1992. He was determined to make The Lifters Club comfortable for the young, the old and the amateur, as well as the highly competitive fitness enthusiast. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. Until 7:00 p.m. with a funeral service to follow at 7:00 p.m. CST at Bilbrey Funeral Home in Crossville. Brother Mike Garrett and Robert Rainey will be officiating. Born June 10, 1934, in Baton Rouge, La., she was the daughter of Roy E. Hyde and Elaine Lorio Hyde, both now deceased. Mrs. Shappert graduated valedictorian from Southeastern High School in Hammond, La. in 1952 and received degrees in biology and physiology with a minor in English in 1956 from Southeastern Louisiana College. She also earned her master's degree in zoology from Louisiana State University. She taught science at Lake Charles High School in Louisiana before moving to Oak Ridge in 1959 to work in the Biology Division of Oak Ridge National Laboratory. She also worked as a technical editor at the lab from 1974 to 2000. Mrs. Shappert was the president of the Dance Club in Oak Ridge, president of Church Women United, secretary of the Diabetes Association at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge, and she was a volunteer for the Oak Ridge Playhouse. She was also a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. The family said she loved to garden, write poetry and enjoyed traveling. Mrs. Shappert is survived by her husband of 42 years, Larry B. Shappert; two daughters, Susan Saliba and husband, Tony, of Dayton, Ohio, and Becky Luther and husband, David, of Bristol; two sons, Stephen Shappert and wife, Rhonda, of Commercial Pt., Ohio, and Christopher Shappert and wife, Kristen, of Suwanee, Ga.; her mother-in-law, Louise Cowger of Oak Ridge; and by nine grandchildren, Joey, Justin and Alaina, all of Dayton, Brendan, Erin and Sarah, all of Bristol, and Julia, Anna and Maria, all of Commercial Pt. Born on June 25, 1916, in Ringgold, Ohio, she was the daughter of Harry W. and Grace M. Denton Lyons. On June 8, 1936, she was married to Arthur J. Durbin, who died Aug. 30, 2002. The family said she was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She worked for more than 20 years at Patented Products in Danville and she also owned and operated with her husband, Durbin's Dairy in Danville. She was a member of St. Luke Church in Danville, a PCCW and card club 56 member. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Richard N. Durbin; a brother, Edwin Lyons; two sisters, Eleanor Rice and Pauline Dennis; and by two sons-in-law, Harold Lahmon and Joe Ridgway. EURETHA PARROTT O'HARA - age 87, formerly of LaFollette, passed away peacefully early Saturday morning, May 31, 2003, at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, after a brief illness. Reth grew up in LaFollette, Tennessee, with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Parrott, Sr. and her brothers, William Harrison Parrott, Jr., and William Floyd Parrott. She married John Grady O'Hara of Jellico, and they had two children, Mary Elizabeth O'Hara Merritt and John Grady O'Hara, Jr. Mrs. Lewis lived for a time with her son in Ft. Worth, Texas, and in recent years with her daughter and son-in-law in Atlanta, Ga. She was a member of the LaFollette First Baptist Church. She is survived by her children, a brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. William Floyd Parrott of LaFollette, another sister-in-law, Mrs. Annalee Parrott, also of LaFollette, eight grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was a resident of Oliver Springs for over fifty years. She was an active member of Beech Park Baptist Church where she attended the Deborah Sunday school class and the Senior Saints of which she enjoyed very much. During her early years in Oliver Springs she worked for Dr. Fred Stone. She enjoyed crocheting outfits and booties for a lot of babies. She will be joining in Heaven her beloved husband, William Emmett Hall; a beloved granddaughter, Sheri Lynn Daugherty; her parents, Charlie and Leona Ray; a brother, Glenn Ray; sister and brother in law, Viola and Leonard Brown; brother in law, C.A. Hall and wife, Polly.
