Hi! Debbie, Thank you again. I have been tracking all of this for so long, yet, have been unable to really prove any of it so far. I even have my Dad's SS#, but have never been able to get it to come up on anything. None of the info., I have been given checks out, one big roadblock after another. We were told he died in California, for which we also tracked down a death certificate. However, we find it may or may not be original. It is such a very long story. In other words, nothing adds up, so to speak. Dad was also in the U.S. ARMY and as of 1991, they still showed that they have no record of him being deceased. I have been to the Veterans office, and was told that he signed up for his pension, yet had never drawn any of it. Later on information is that someone had been drawing it for the past ten years. Another very strange thing, when my grandma, his mother, who raised the three of us received the news that he was dead, she was brought an American Flag, and an Officers Hat (dress). No body, no nothing else. She was told that he died in the Service, now like she said, if he had, then they (the ARMY) would have escorted his body home. That never happened. Ten years later, I find out that no one in our family anyway, ever went and identified the body there in California. My Grandpa had died also on 30JAN1955, my Grandma was not able to do anything, she could not even read or write and therefore, we were all small. Every place I have searched, even having prior info., and at one point in time, even sending the death cert. as asked for, was then returned to me saying they had never heard of this person, no records whatsoever. This was also in California. The same thing has happened over and over again. I do not believe that a person can just totally disappear and not leave some trace. I have spoken with Hospitals, Funeral homes, Cemeteries, etc., "BIG ROADBLOCKS". I even spoke with a lady in California, who asked me to call back on a Thursday morning and she would tell me everything I wanted to know about my Dad. I did so, and she acted like she never ever had spoken to me and hung up. I still have the info., in my files along with her name. This was also a Hospital and or a Nursing Home. She said she could not confirm it the first time I had called when I began to question her. Anyway, I truly believe there is someone out there who has to know something about this. I will continue to pursue it until the Truth comes out. I would like to Thank everyone for all the replies I have had, and for your help. I so truly appreciate it. Milly, Some names don't always come up in the Social Security Index. I have to put the whole number in myself to get my dad's to come up. And a friend of mine has his grandfather's (been deceased for years) card. We put the number in and it still won't come up. So, I figure that doesn't necessarily mean someone didn't have one. Mary

Beverly, I subscribe to Ancestry, and this is where I found this. It was in the California Death Index, 1940-1997. Surname: BARNETT Given Name: HOYT Sex: MALE Birth Date: 2 Jul 1918 Death Date: 13 May1955 Birth Place: TENNESSEE Death Place: SACRAMENTO Social Security # : 0 Mother's Maiden Name: OWEN Father's Surname: BARNETT In the 1930 Federal Census, Hoyt (11 yrs. old, b. TN) is listed in District # 2, Scott Co., TN in the household of Martin Barnett (b. KY) and wife Anna (b. TN). Next door is John Barnett (b. KY) and wife Pearl (b. TN). I tried to find Hoyt in the Social Security Index, but couldn't pull anything up. I hope this other information will help you. Mary (Barnes) Moffette
Hi Beverly, You can't know if it is the right man until you ask. The lady is willing to help. I am wondering if he used a name other than Hoyt. He is not listed in the Social Security Death Records. I checked everyone with the name of Barnett, I checked every Hoyt Barnett, I checked every Barnett with that birthday, every Barnett with that death date....I can up with nothing. Finding someone on the net can be a matter of persistence and luck. Sometimes I do lookups for other people so I can take a break from my people. Sometimes when I do this I discover or remember something I haven't tried on my people. I will be going to the historical society today, I'll check there for him. Have you called the Death Record Dept. for CA? If he died in CA there should be a death record. It may be worth paying $5 to $20 for a copy. Have you went to Rootsweb Connect World Search? Have you tried searching the US genweb state pages? Both of these searches do not show up in the google search. Have you search on the LDS site? I didn't find him there but you might. Also, don't just search for your father. Search for yourself, your siblings, his siblings, his parents, their parents. You never know when on search will lead you to the information you are looking for. While you are searching be sure you make a 'paper trail' Print or keep a copy of every bit of information you find. Be sure you keep the source and the web site you found the info from. If you have been keeping a trail, go back and look over everything again. I did and I found an ancestor in an obit that no had discovered. So, good luck and keep plugging away! Hello: I can't help at all on your lines but I would not be surprised if someone out there had some link to your families. Keep in mind that there are BARNETT's in and around Somerset Ky and the surrounding counties. I would guess that you have already surmised that. So don't discount the rootsweb lists of those counties in Ky. Good Luck in your search and MAY GOD BLESS YOU ALL!! Have never done this before so don't know if I'm doing it right. Have asked a few people for help. Brick wall My dad was supposedly born in Robbins, TN. in 1905. His name was Harry Lee Phillips. His mother was Estelle/Estella/Stella Chastain (my grandmother) His father was Tom/Thomas Phillips and she said was a going to medical school shortly after my dad's birth and they were divorced. My grandmother was illiterate, pt. Cherokee Indian and all this was oral history. We have never been able to get a birth certificate for my dad. Know this is not laid out right. I am new at this. If this looks familiar to anyone would appreciate any help. Sandra
Hi! Debbie, I need all the help I can get. However, how do you know this is the correct Hoyt? I am a beginner with this pc, and therefore, do not know how to go about finding a lot of this info., I did go to the sight you speak of, and saw the name is there indeed, yet the other ones I do not recognize. I have also taken it into consideration that my Dad could have very possibly had another family unbeknown to any of us. It is indeed possible. I would love your help, thank you so much. Now, where do I go from here? Thank you so much, Beverly --- Debbie Reynolds <tonkacat@bellsouth.net> wrote: > Beverly, I "googled" your dad. So please, if there is anyone out there that knows even the smallest little thing about my Dad, Please, please let me know. Good or Bad, I need to know. There is only the two of us left now, as we just lost our sister, Marilyn Joyce BARNETT, Thomas, 31MAY2003. Our Dad's Parents: Son of Martin Harrison BARNETT...b.29AUG1890...Pulaski Co., Kentucky...d.30JAN1955...Tennessee, Scott Co., and Susannah "Annie" OWENS...b.01OCT1890...Scott Co., Tennessee...d.13JAN1967...Scott Co., Tennessee. ------------------------------------------------------- The One Who Had Us: HALL, Nellie Nixola...b. 13APRIL1920 (I think!) I am not sure, because she left me when I was three (3) years old, our brother was only eighteen months (18) mos. old, still in diapers; and our Sissy had just turned seven (7) years old. I know that she and my Dad were married 29JUNE1940, as I have their Marriage Certificate. They were married in Tennessee, Scott Co. She also remarried a man with last name of FAULKNER, and had two more children, then divorced. Last we heard she was living in MONTANA, POLSON. She wasn't at our Sissy's Funeral, but we were told while we were there, that she was still in MONTANA. Her Parents are: HALL, David M.,...b.02JULY1885... d.NOV1961. I don't know where he was born. He is buried at Baptist Memorial Cemetery, Scott Co., Tennessee. LAVENDER, Lucy...b.06MARCH1896...d.13SEPT1976. I don't know where she was born. If there is anyone out there who may know and remember anything about this whole situation, please let me know. My direct line is BARNETT, HALL. BARNETT, Hoyt...b. 23JUNE1918...Tennessee, Scott Co., Have been told that he d. 1955...California. However, there is a "MYSTERY" surrounding this. He was very ill, and an ambulance came and they took him away on a stretcher. There was lots of blood. He had collapsed while playing with me out in the yard. My Aunt Pearl said he was hemorrhaging. I was around six years old at the time, (1951), but I remember it very well. My Aunt went over to him and said to him, Hoyt, Pray! Pray Hoyt! to which he replied..."I am Praying, Aunt Pearl, and then he closed his eyes and they loaded him in the ambulance and took him away. He came back a couple of times after that to see Grandpa & Grandma BARNETT,(his Mom & Dad), and us children, there were three of us; in 1953. That was the last time any of us ever saw him again.
