He was a 32nd Degree Mason and Shriner in Oregon, Ohio. He belonged to the Athletic Hall of Fame in Oregon, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard "Tooky" Hatmaker. Survivors: wife, Patricia Hatmaker of Jacksboro, Tenn.; daughter, Sarah Hatmaker of Lima, Ohio; son, Andy Hatmaker of Toledo, Ohio; step daughter, Kim Oakes & husband, David of LaFollette, Tenn.; mother, Rubye Wilson Hatmaker of Caryville, Tenn.; brothers, Terry Hatmaker of High Pointe, NC, Jerry Cox & wife, Judy of Charlotte, NC; niece, Katie; host of other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends on Monday August 11, 2003 from 6-8 p.m. at the Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Lake City with funeral service to follow in the chapel at 8 p.m. with the Rev. Charles Harness officiating. Masonic service will be conducted prior to the funeral service. Interment will be Tuesday August 12, 2003 at 11 a.m. at Campbell County Memorial Gardens in LaFollette. ROSS - age 88 of Lancing, ============================================ ARNURIUS, ARMOND "ARNIE" - age 96 of Norris passed away Saturday. He spent his last days at St. Mary's Residential Hospice where he was lovingly attended by his wife of almost 17 years, Chesley Dale Arnurius, other family members, scores of friends, and many kind nurses. He then returned home, spending his last night with his family before dying the following morning. He was born in Windsor, Connecticut, in 1906 and graduated from the University of Massachusetts with a B.S. degree in landscape architecture and engineering. He moved his family to Norris in 1946 where he served the City of Norris for many years and in numerous capacities, including City Clerk, City Manager, City Councilman, and Mayor. In 1994 he was appointed Mayor Emeritus by the City Council. An ardent horseman, he rode for pleasure and in horse show competition. He received many ribbons for his walking horses and in 1994 the East TN Walking Horse Association awarded him the Overall High Point Performance Champion trophy. At age 90 he was listed by the Association as the oldest amateur rider. He was a long-term member of the Norris Religious Fellowship. Preceded in death by wife of 53 years, Evelyn Sandstrom Arnurius, parents Albert and Edith Lovell Arnurius, and sister and brother-in- law Charles and Vi Parsons. Survived by wife Chesley Dale Arnurius; son David Arnurius of Norris and special friend Phyllis Harrington of Claxton; son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Beth Arnurius of Knoxville; grandchildren Scott, Mark, and Sarah Arnurius of Knoxville and Cynthia Hannon of Jacksonville, Florida; great-grandchild Paige Hixon of Jacksonville; step-children Ann Dale Stierli of Knoxville, Janet Dale Jolly of Norris, and James Burrows Dale of Memphis; step-grandchildren Erika and Alison Stierli, Karen Jolly Stecker, and Peter Dale; nephews Robert and Bruce Parsons; cousin A.W. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester B. Chadwick. A long time resident of Clinton, she dedicated many hours to Habitat For Humanity, the Clinton Library and tutored children in the public schools. Among her varied interests were sewing, needlework, swimming, reading, and duplicate bridge. Survivors include her son, Richard A. Chadwick of Estill Springs, TN; three daughters; Carol Zitzow of Signal Mountain, TN, Mary Sue Sutton of Fort Lauderdale, FL, and Kathyrn Chadwick, Clinton, TN; seven grandsons, one granddaughter, and two great-grandsons. NEFF, CARL M. - age 74 of Powell, went home to be with the Lord August 9, 2003 after a long battle with cancer. He left this life peacefully with his family by his side. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church, Powell. Mr. Neff was a retired employee of Y-12 in Oak Ridge where he worked as a chemist and supervisor for 44 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bobbie. He is survived by his daughters, Vickie Smith and Linda Malin; son in law Buddy Malin; brother and sister in law, Wayne and Linda Neff; grandchildren, Jason Smith, Adam, Savannah and Aaron Malin; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service 7:30 p.m. Monday at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel with Rev. Clarence Sexton officiating. Family and friends will meet 10:45 a.m. Tuesday at the W. NOE, THURMAN WILSON - age 87, of Karns, was born on June 14, 1916, and passed away on Aug 8, 2003. He was a deacon and active member of Grace Baptist Church before his extended illness. He was a Mason and a member of the Beaver Ridge Lodge No. 366, where he also served as treasurer for many years. Mr. Noe retired from the Y-12 Plant in Oak Ridge in 1981 after 32 years of service. He was a member of the Pipefitters Local 718 and recently received his 50-year membership award. Preceded in death by his parents, David W. and Minnie Harbin Noe; brother, Carroll H. Noe, Sr.; sister, Lorene Moody, and half-sister, Lida Cannon. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Katherine Carson Noe; son and daughter-in-law, David and Teresa Noe; granddaughter and husband, Tammy and Chris Gregg; grandson, Billy Noe; great- granddaughter, Caitlin Gregg; step-sisters, Gertrude Harbin and Cloria Anderson; sisters-in-law, Lily Ruth and Wanda Carson; several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Bruce was the daughter of Joshua Teague and Martha King Teague. Although Mrs. Bruce was a supervisor and taught in the Oak Ridge school system near the end of her teaching career, she is best remembered for the many years she taught and coached at LaFollette High School. A graduate of LMU and Peabody College, Mrs. Bruce was selected to be in the LMU Athletic Hall of Fame. She was a member of the Oak Ridge Chapter of Alpha Delta Gamma serving in numerous offices on both local and state levels. She was a published historian and a member of the Campbell County Historical Society serving with a strong sense of civic duty. Until recently she was an active member of the LaFollette Book Club having finished writing its history only a year ago. As long as her health would permit she worked as a volunteer at the Campbell County History Museum and served on the LaFollette Library Board. In 1986, she published History In Stone, a well researched resource of the Cemeteries in Campbell County. Mrs. Bruce enjoyed her role as a gardener and will be remembered for her beautiful roses and peonies that she so willingly would share. Her retirement years centered around her family and friends, restoring the Cain House, which is now known as the Bruce House, and her numerous varieties of flowers. She is preceded in death by her husband, Claude Bruce. Many nieces and nephews survive her as well as grand-grand nieces and nephews. The family received friends Saturday, August 2 at Cross Funeral Home and the funeral followed with Dr. Charles Parker officiating. Burial was Sunday, August 3 in the Woodlawn Cemetery. Ruth worked for the Bell South Phone Company, Ortec & the Anderson County Clerk's Office. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Clinton most of her life. In recent years she has been a full time wife, grandmother & great-grandmother. She loved politics & continued to be politically active after she retired. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Handy & Ollie Stooksbury; brother, Albert Stooksbury; her sisters, Reitha Smith & Mary Nell Carter; and niece, Evelyn Buck. Ruth is survived by her husband, John Cole, Sr. They r ecently celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary. He was born April 6, 1906, to the late Jacob Henry and Mary Pohlenz Keim in Tecumseh, Nebraska. He married his wife, Lucille Parli Keim on June 29, 1929. She passed away March 9, 1998. He is survived by a daughter, Virginia Ann Hayes (Mrs. Clarke) of Pawleys Island, S.C., and a son, Robert Christopher Keim of Nashville, Tenn.; grandchildren, Kimberly and Clarke C. Hayes and Christopher Keim and Jessica Powers and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Friday, August 8, 2003, at 12 Noon at First United Methodist Church in Oak Ridge with Dr. Robert Cantrell officiating. Interment will be at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 12 Noon at the church.     3. You're welcome Beverly. Back in '55 I believe there was still in existance a second newspaper that was a competitor to the Bee, but my memory is failing me as to it's name. I'm wanting to say The Sacramento Herald, but I'm not certain. Eventually they became one paper. Probably a Genealogical Society in Sacramento Co. could help you find a source for their archives or maybe the State Library also located in Sacramento. Check rootsweb for Sacramento and you'll probably find an address or phone for the genealogical society there. Hope you have success.
