The family received friends Tuesday, Sept. 2 with funeral services following in the Claiborne Funeral Home chapel with Reverends Cecil Fultz and Bob Carroll officiating. Music was by Barbara Hatfield. Graveside services were Wednesday, Sept. 3 in the Fairview Cemetery. Pallbearers were Chance Baird, Wesley Baird, William Lane, Eddie Ray Hurst, and Rev. Travis Chumley and Jerry Chumley. Claiborne Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Phyllis Ann Goins, 55, LaFollette, died Tuesday, August 26, 2003 at U.T. Medical Center, Knoxville. Cross Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Robert H. Graham, 61, Jellico, died Monday, August 25, 2003 at his home. Mr. Graham was a member of the Morley Baptist Church. She loved spending time wither friends and neighbors, loved gardening and enjoyed life to it's fullest. The family would like to extend their appreciation to Julie House, Margaret Overbay, and Billy Lee of whom she adopted and thought of as her own. For the love and caring they gave Ocie for so many years. He loved his Irish heritage, his family, basketball, and horse racing. He graduated from Middletown High School in 1938, and served his country in the Coast Guard during World War II. "Jim" Dumont, 67, Winston Cannon, 49, of Clinton, ============================================ Betty Ruth Hembree, 73, of Oak Ridge, died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2003, at her home after an extended illness. She was an instructor at Tennessee School of Beauty for several years and was also an employee at the Oak Ridge K-25 site. Mrs. Hembree was a Baptist and her family said she enjoyed watching Central Baptist Church on Sunday mornings. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Bonnie Hembree. Mrs. Hembree is survived by a brother, William Hembree and wife, Audrey; a sister, Barbara Bray and husband, Leon; two nieces, Stacy Hughes of Clinton and Sharon Moore of South Carolina; and by a nephew, Charles Hembree of Clinton. The body was donated to science as Mrs. Hembree had requested, and her family said she will always be remembered. James N. "Jim" Dumont, 67, died Friday, Aug. 29, 2003, at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, following a brief illness. Born and raised on a small family farm in Sigourney, Iowa, he was the son of George and Clara Webb Dumont, both now deceased. Mr. Dumont went to the University of Iowa, where he received bachelor's and master's degrees. While there, he met and married his wife, Shirley Evans Dumont, who died in 1993. From Iowa, the couple moved to Amherst, Mass., where he completed a doctorate in zoology at the University of Massachusetts. Mr. Dumont moved his family to Oak Ridge in 1967, when he took a job in the biology division of Oak Ridge National Laboratory. According to his family, while living in Oak Ridge, he was involved in many community-based activities. He served on the board of directors at the Oak Ridge Community Playhouse, the Arts Council of Oak Ridge, and Oak Ridge Community Television. He was also an active member of St. Mary's Catholic church. In 1995, Jim moved to Stillwater, Okla., to take a position in the zoology department at Oklahoma State University. He was actively conducting research in Stillwater at the time of his death. Mr. Dumont is survived by his sister, Elizabeth Snakenburg of Webster, Iowa; his brother, Jerry Dumont of Sigourney; and by three children, Betsy Dumont of Montague, Mass., Katie King of Knoxville, and Charles James Dumont. A funeral Mass was Monday, Sept. 1, 2003 in Sigourney. Memorials will be held in both Oak Ridge and Stillwater later this fall. The family requests that any memorials be in the form of contributions in his name to a local hospice organization. Winston Cannon, 49, of Clinton, died Friday, Sept. 5, 2003, at his home. Plzak, 88, Spicey Daugherty Duncan, 88, of Oliver Springs, Wilda Doris "Nanna" Grimes Summers, 86, of Oak Ridge, ============================================ Lois M. Plzak, 88, died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003. Born March 17, 1915, in Davenport, N.D., she was the daughter of Roy T. Amel and Iza Gunkel Amel, both now deceased. Her father was in banking and as a child she moved with her family to several western locations including Opheim, Mont., and Arthur, N.D., before settling in Alden, Minn., where she still has many friends. According to her family, she had a terrific memory for events of the past, and told fascinating stories of the early West and rural America. Mrs. Plzak attended St. Catherine's college in St. Paul, Minn., and her family said she enjoyed reading and doing needlepoint. Her husband was in the Air Force and her family said she enjoyed his tour of duty in Washington, D.C., and their subsequent retirement in Tucson, Ariz. According to her family, Mrs. Plzak loved nature, especially birds, flowers, little dogs and gardening. Her family said she overcame several severe medical conditions through the years, which impaired her physical abilities, but her memory, mind and faith in God remained strong. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward J. Plzak; a brother, Earl Amel; a niece, Betty Ann Vogel. Her family said many of her friends also died earlier. Mrs. Plzak is survived by her son, Jim Palmer and wife, Jane, of Oak Ridge, with whom she was living; two granddaughters, Stephanie Jane Palmer of Chicago, Ill., and Amy Iza Palmer of Los Angeles, Calif.; a sister, Dee Vogel and husband, Morris, of Golden Valley, Minn.; a sister-in-law, Lynette Amel of Phoenix, Ariz.; and by four nephews Rob Vogel, Paul Vogel, Ron Amel, and J. C. Amel, and their families. A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 8, 2003, at St. Casimir Catholic Church in Wells, Minn. Burial will follow in Alden. A memorial service will be in Oak Ridge at a later date. The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to the Haiti Medical Mission of St. Mary's Catholic Church, 327 Vermont Ave., Oak Ridge, TN 37830. Mrs. French was a lifelong resident of Roane County and a member of the Order of Eastern Star Oliver Springs Chapter and of the New Fairview Baptist Church in Oliver Springs. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James "Eddie" French, with whom she founded French's Markets, and by two children, James D. French and Shirley F. Huling. Mrs. French is survived by four sons, Robert "Gene" French of Knoxville, Thaxton French and wife, Brenda, of Swansea, S.C., and Howard French and wife, Vickie, and Ray French and wife, Sheila, all of Oliver Springs; four daughters, Mattie Freeman and husband, J.R., Betty Bray and husband, Roger, Elaine Johnson and husband, Malcolm, and Lois Yarborough and husband, Jerry, all of Oliver Springs; and by 32 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003, at New Fairview Baptist Church with the Rev. Scott Queener and the Rev. Kenny Stubbs officiating. A graveside service will follow at New Fairview Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, at Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs Virginia Hatcher, 78, of Erwin, died Monday, Sept. 1, 2003, at her home. Mrs. Hatcher was a Unicoi County native and the daughter of Bernie C. and Pearl Tipton Bailey, both now deceased. She was employed by the former Southern Potteries of Erwin and was a member of First Christian Church in Erwin. Mrs. Hatcher is survived by her husband, George Hatcher; three daughters, Beth Briggs and husband, Larry, of Unicoi, Brenda Rudman and husband, Mel, of Indian Wells, Calif., and Linda Rohling of Knoxville; five grandchildren, Roger Callahan, Michael Callahan, Shannon Briggs, Julie Briggs and Jodi West; and by one great-grandchild, Cody Callahan. She is also survived by three sisters, Betty Slagle and husband, Wayne, of Salt Lake City, Utah, Gail Bailiff and husband, Eddie, of Clinton, and Brenda Day and husband, Millard, of Lenoir City; and by three brothers, Paul Bailey and wife, Myrt, of Texas, Earl Bailey and wife, Anne, of Apex, N.C., and Ramel Bailey and wife, Betty, of Nashville. A graveside service will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, 2003, at Evergreen Cemetery with Joel Trammel officiating. He was a member of the St. Luke Methodist Church and a U. S. Army Veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sue Bunch and grandson, Ricky Bunch. He is survived by the mother of his children, Trucilla Wright Bunch; sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Shirley Bunch, and David and Sandie Bunch, all of Knoxville; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Bill Owens of Knoxville; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren. UNDERWOOD, ALBERT GLENN - age 82, of Knoxville, passed away Thursday, August 14, 2003, at Ft. Sanders Hospital in Knoxville. He was born February 24, 1921, in the Scarborough Community. He lived in both Anderson and Blount Counties for many years. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Joyce Ann Underwood. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Ruth Underwood; two children, Mary Voyles of Knoxville, and Clifford Underwood of Bulls Gap, Tenn.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and one sister, MaryNell Currier of Oak Ridge. Mr. Underwood was cremated. No funeral services are planned but a memorial service to honor Mr. Underwood will be at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 3, 2003, at Valley View Baptist Church in Knoxville, with Rev.
