He also enjoyed gardening and his dogs. >From The Knoxville News Sentinel 12 Oct 2003 CORBIN, LAWRENCE TAPP - 85, HUMPHREY, FRANK D. - age 70 of Clinton, ========================================= CORBIN, LAWRENCE TAPP - 85, died October 10 at Lakeshore Meadows in Nashville. He was born in Nebo, Hopkins Co., Ky. on August 6, 1918, the son of the late Forest and Ada Dame Corbin. He married Mary Elizabeth Townes on January 28, 1939. After graduating from the University of Kentucky and serving in the US Navy. "Larry" (to his friends) or "Tapp" (to family members), worked in Detroit at the Ford Motor Company before staring work in 1944 with the Manhattan Project at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in the Chemistry Division. In May of 1950, when the Analytical Chemistry Division was created and directed toward the separation and processing of plutonium, he moved to that division and later became its Assistant Director. During his professional career, he served as Co-Chairman and Chairman of the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) and was made a Fellow of American Institute of Chemists and received the Award of Merit, the Harlan 1 Anderson Award and the Charles B. Dudley Medal. During the 55 years that he and Lib lived in Oak Ridge, he was active in and an officer of the Oak Ridge Country Club. His hobbies included gardening, refereeing basketball games, playing golf, ballroom dancing and traveling. He was a long time member of First United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Mary Elizabeth Corbin; two daughters and sons in law, Patricia Ann (Pat) Shelton and Bill Shelton in Nashville, and Mary Tapp (Tappie) Thornton and James W. Mr. McCollough was a native and lifelong resident of Jackson. He retired in 1982 with over 36 years of service with South Central Bell as a plant manager. He was also a member of Southside Assembly of God and was on the board and head of the Men's Fellowship Department for many years. Mr. McCollough had several hobbies including fishing, hunting and quartet singing, but according to his family none were more important than his love of his country, family and friends. He was a former United States Army veteran having served during World War II. He was a member of the Clear Branch Baptist Church in Lake City. He was born October 10, 1942 in Anderson County. Larry loved gardening and riding his bike and collecting cans in his spare time. Located about 10 miles outside of Sparta, White Co., TN, off Highway 84 toward Monterey, this charming jewel of a cemetery is the final resting place of the early BRADLEY family, and two Revolutionary War soldiers, William BUTRAM, II (1759 NC - 1853) and Henry MARSH (b. about 1761 to 1777 VA - 1859). Both old soldiers relocated from Wayne Co., KY to White Co., TN in their last years. William's brother, John BUTTRAM, settled in the part of Morgan Co., TN that became Scott Co., TN. What to wear? Sturdy work clothes, boots or rugged leather shoes, hat for protection from the sun (no shade), sun block or sun screen lotion, work gloves What to bring? Born Aug. 16, 1930, in Newport, she was the daughter of Earl Derry and Pearl Jenkins. Mrs. Jones lived in New York for nine years before moving back to the Oak Ridge area in 1942. She retired as a carrier in 1998 from The Oak Ridger. She was also employed as a waitress. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepmother, Pauline Derry; two half sisters, Mary Brown and Earline Derry; and by a half brother, Virgil "Bud" Derry.
