He is preceded in death by his parents, Edith Brasel and Franklin P. Dickey, Jr. He is survived by brothers and sisters-in-law, Carline and Frederick D. Dickey of Knoxville, Tennessee, Scottie and Thomas W. Dickey of Plano, Texas; nieces and nephews, Susan D. Beale of Knoxville, Scott Dickey of Maryville, Sally and Pierce Dickey of Plano, Texas. Mr. Dickey was born in Rockwood, Tennessee and graduated form Rockwood High School where he was valedictorian and president of his senior class. He attended the University of Tennessee, majoring in Engineering Physics. A military veteran, he served two years in Germany with the U.S. Army. He was retired from Martin Mariettta Energy Systems in Oak Ridge after 36 years of service. Mr. Dickey was an avid distant runner and a longtime supporter of University of Tennessee athletics. Haywood Kenneth Cross - Union Democrat, The (Oct/21/2005) Longtime Arnold resident Haywood Kenneth Cross died Sunday at a San Andreas hospital. He was 96. He was born in Tennessee and grew up on a farm in the Paint Rock Creek Valley. After graduating magna cum laude from Lincoln Memorial University, he taught school for two years. He then attended Colgate-Rochester Divinity School where he received a master's degree and became a minister in the American Baptist Church. In addition to his career as a chaplain, he also spent 20 years pastoring churches in New York, California and Montana, and as a missionary to the Crow Indians. He was a chaplain in the U.S. Army for 20 years, and served in World War II and the Korean War. He moved to Arnold in the 1970s, and made contributions to the Arnold community. He was instrumental in the creation of White Pines Park and the Sierra Logging Museum. He was a longtime member of the Lions Club, the Moose Lodge, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Association of Retired Persons. He enjoyed writing poetry and was recognized with several national awards. Mr. Cross is survived by his wife, Audrey; a son, Haywood Jr.; daughters, Kathie and Sandra; and grandchildren, Tyler and Teagan. A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at the First Congregational Church in Murphys. A reception will follow. Angels Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Rockwood; a life member of the Parent Teacher's Association; a member of NU Delta Kappa Gamma; a member of the Roane County Retired Teacher's Association and the recipient of the Golden Apple Award. She taught Sunday School, worked with the young people, and organized a Girl Scout Troop in Rockwood. "Miss Lucy" (as she was known to all graduated from Rockwood High School in 1921; attended East Tennessee State College; and graduated from Peabody College with a BA degree. She started teaching in 1921 at Mt. Union in Cumberland County. From 1922 to 1931 she taught at Rockwood Junior High School; and from 1931 until her retirement in 1963 she taught at Harriman High School, the last 25 years as a librarian. "Miss Lucy" loved her students and was loved by her students for the love, concern and guidance she gave them. She was preceded in death by: her husband, H.C. He attended the Stanfield Church of God, was a graduate of Campbell Co. High School and was very active in his community often helping his neighbors during sickness and lending a hand to anyone who needed help. Laura Jean Erwin, 79, of Powder Springs, Ga., and formerly of Oak Ridge, died Thursday, Dec. 8, 2005, at Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, Ga. She was born Aug. 7, 1926, in Chattanooga, the daughter of Ida and Walter Marvin Hicks. Mrs. Erwin was a homemaker and a member of Central Baptist Church. Before moving to Georgia in January of this year, she enjoyed participating in the activities of the Senior Citizens Center. in addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husbands William Houston Thomas in 1968 and Robert Erwin in 1988. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Stanley Hicks and a sister, Polly Hicks. She is survived by a son, Frank Thomas and his wife Angela of Powder Springs, Ga.; brother, Walter Marvin Hicks Jr., of Chattanooga; and four grandchildren, Allison, Amanda, Sarah and Jennifer Thomas. Addie Cumi Jane Lawson, age 83, a resident of Oliver Springs, passed away Saturday, Dec. 10, 2005, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Mrs. Lawson was born April 5, 1922, in Anderson County. She was a lifelong resident of Oliver Springs. She was a member of Tuppertown Baptist Church and she was employed at both Emory 5 & 10 and Shepherds Discount Store. She also worked as a resident caregiver for Alice Davis. Mrs. Lawson was preceded in death by her husband, Wes Lawson; by her parents, William Suttles and Maude Ella Brummett Suttles; by two brothers, John Henry Suttles and Herbert Brummett; and by two sisters, Dorothy Shoopman and Anna Belle Graves. She came to Jellico, TN in 1933 as a Western Union Operator after working in ten different towns in Tennessee & Alabama. After her children were raised, she once again worked for Western Union and then as Manager of the Quality Motel in Jellico. Lucille was very active in the Jellico United Methodist Church where she was a long time Sunday School Teacher of the Ladies Class. She was preceded in death by: her husband of sixty years, John Glenn Queener, I; son, John Glenn Queener II (Catherine); mother and father; four brothers and two sisters.
