    3. Nadine Slaven, age 78 years, Strunk, Kentucky died August 15, 2004. Funeral services were held Thursday, August 19, 2004 at McCreary County Funeral Home with Bro. Jimmy Waters officiating. Burial was in Slaven Family Cemetery. She was born June 7, 1926 at Rinnie, Tennessee the daughter of the late Eddie and Margaret Lee Todd Stephens. She was a homemaker and member of Ross Grove United Baptist Church. Her parents and her husband, Gilbert Slaven precede her in death. Frank D. Slaven is the deceased son. Survivors include her children, Gilbert Slaven, Jr., Strunk, Kentucky; Deborah Lewis and husband, Jeremy and Nancy Barber all of Muncie, Indiana and Ettalea Cormican, Mentoe, Indiana. Mescal Matthews, Strunk, Kentucky and Chestaline Waters, Attica, Indiana are the surviving sisters. Six grandchildren and three great grandchildren survive. McCreary County Funeral Home entrusted with arrangements. Gilbert's parents & grandparents are buried in the Marcum Cemetery, Oneida, Scott Co., TN. From the Oak Ridger 4 Jan 2006 Willie Frank Kirk, age 64, of Oak Ridge, Johnnie Lee Kott, of Rochester Hills, Mich., and formerly of Oak Ridge, April Dawn Kyle , age 21, of Kingston, Anna Gunderson, of Oak Ridge, Evelyn W. King, 83, of Oak Ridge, Hermon Powers, of Clinton, Columbus Thomas, Willie Frank Kirk, age 64, of Oak Ridge, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 1, 2006, at his home after an extended illness. He was born Aug. 20, 1941, in Opelika, Ala., to the union of Willie B. and Addie Pearl Kirk, both of whom preceded him in death. He moved to Oak Ridge, Tenn., with his family during his early childhood where he grew up in Scarboro neighborhood and was a graduate of Oak Ridge High School. He later began his employment with Union Carbide Nuclear Division, where he retired with 37 years of service. Mr. Kirk was a devoted and faithful member of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church. He was very active in the music ministry and was known throughout the community for his love of singing. He was a music lover and played several instruments, including the guitar and harmonica. He was a self proclaimed jack of all trades and enjoyed building and repair projects. In addition to his parents, Mr. Kirk was preceded in death by his brother, Jimmie Andrew Kirk. He is survived by his devoted wife of 32 years, Brenda Kirk; four daughters, Letonia (Joseph) Armstrong of Knoxville, Sheila (Monty) Palmer and Tina Kirk of Nashville, and Tonya Fugate of Oak Ridge; three sons, Clarence (Angela) Threat and Michael Gibson of Oak Ridge, and Travis Kirk of Houston, Texas; 17 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.     2. In the 1910 Campbell County census, she was listed as being 7 years old, so that would make the birth year around 1903. Rachel would have been the daughter of John Jordan and Mary Bell Gibson. Mary married James Jordan (John's) brother after John passed away. I found these dates for a Rachel Green on the SSDI: 1-3-1903 to 2-2-1988; last resident: Newcomb, TN. My grandmother's 2nd husband, Jesse Stephens, was killed in a mine accident in Glen Mary, TN, which came from an oral history but have been unable to verify. Was there an explosion or something? I'm not Milly, but I can answer that one. Yes, there was an explosion at a coal mine in West Virginia early yesterday morning. They think it might have been caused by lightning, since they were having storms at the time. There are 13 miners trapped inside. So far, the news doesn't look good, with the tests they have done on air quality. But those miners' families still have hope the air is better where they are trapped. My prayers are with them all. Claude Brooks, Bobby J., age 67, of Hillsboro, OH, formerly of Fairborn, OH passed away, December 31, 2005. Bobby was born November 10, 1938 in Coal Field, Tennessee, the son of the late Kenneth and Maudine Brooks. Bobby served his country with the U.S. Army Reserves and was retired from Chrysler. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Charles and Allen. Survivors include his wife, Emma of 47 years; daughter, Charlene (Richard) Hall of Fairborn; son, Gary (Joan) Brooks of Fairborn; grandchildren, Bridget, Gary, Brindon, Kyle, Kellsie, Wesley, Nick, Kaitlyn and Kelly; sister, Hazel Ayres of Vandalia. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 6-8 P.M. Wednesday in the Burcham Funeral Home, 119 E. Main St., Fairborn, where services will be held at 10 A.M., Thursday, January 5, 2006 with Rev. Jim Turner officiating. Burial will follow in Medway Cemetery.
