Yes I knew Franny. She was a great person and friend. I will miss her so much. She taught me how to make web pages with graphics and was so nice when I just couldn't get it...As most of you probably know she was responsible for the Lay of The Land web site. I was the editor of the Newsletter for Lay of The Land so we worked together a lot because of that also. She was related to me distantly. I was really proud to have her in my family tree. Gerger, 88, of Oak Ridge, Rodney Darryl Bowen, 69, of Oak Ridge, died Sunday, Jan. 8, 2006, at the Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. He was born July 13, 1936, in Langland, Ala. Mr. Bowen graduated from Oak Ridge High School in 1954. After serving in the U.S. Navy and graduating from the University of Tennessee, he worked as a case worker for the state of Illinois in Rockford, Ill. He returned to Oak Ridge in 1991. He is survived by his mother, Rubye Bowen of Oak Ridge; his daughter and son-in-law, Lissa and Ed Garver of Spillville, Iowa; his grandchildren, Michael Garver of Spillville, Iowa, and Nicole Garver of Rockford, Ill.; his sister and her husband, Susan and Dana Coleman, and his nephew Paul Ryon of Oak Ridge. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society in his name. From the Oak Ridger 9 Jan 2006 Betty Jane Shearer Ellis, age 77, of Oliver Springs, James Hardigree, age 68, a resident of Oliver Springs, Robert Jason Lay, 34, of Oak Ridge, Alonzo Rashad Slater, 22, a native of Oak Ridge, Tenn. Rodney Bowen, 69, of Oak Ridge, Betty Jane Shearer Ellis, age 77, of Oliver Springs, passed into the arms of the Lord at home Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2006. She was born in Sumter, S.C. Mrs. Ellis was an active member of Central Baptist Church in Oak Ridge for over 53 years. During this time, she was an interpreter for the Deaf Ministry, helped her husband with the Singles Ministry, and was involved in the Media Ministry of the church. She was also a member of the Missions Committee and made several mission trips to various countries including Brazil, Guatemala, Russia and Romania. Mrs. Ellis retired in 1988 having worked for 18 years as an ORNL employee, first in the Mammalian Research Facility at Y-12 and later transferring to the Health and Safety Group at ORNL. She was a member of an art group and enjoyed painting and arts and crafts. Mrs. Ellis is survived by her husband of 58 years, William Ray Ellis; six children and their spouses, Stephen and Olga Ellis of Puerto Rico, Glenn and Marcia Ellis of Oliver Springs, Dale and Pat Ellis of Statesville, N.C., Joy and Doug Rogers of Colorado, Dawn and Bill Strunk of Knoxville, and Scott and Melissa Ellis of Sevierville. He was given the name "Showboat" for his finesse on the basketball court. He was also known as "Lil One" and "Zo." His family said, "He always had a smile on his face and never frowned. He was silly and could always make you laugh. Zo will be missed and will always be remembered for his sexy eyes." She graduated from Clinton High School where she was active in the band and was drum major her senior year. She received her masters degree from The University of Tennessee and then became a math teacher at Clinton High School. She was very committed to helping her students excel in life as well as with their education. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Sarah Etta Long Jones; son, Robert H. Dye; and brothers, Marshall, Ralph, Clyde, and Charlie Jr. Jones. Anna Kendall Gunderson, age 85, of Oak Ridge, died Wednesday morning, Jan. 4, 2006, at her home in Oak Ridge Retirement Community. She was born on May 3, 1920, in Peru, Ind., to John Wesley Kendall and Agnes Lonsdale Kendall. She grew up in Marion, Ind., and moved to Indianapolis during World War II, where she worked for the Farmers Home Administration, and where she met and married Carl Sofus Gunderson. They moved to Oak Ridge in 1953, where Anna was actively and creatively involved in school and scouting activities with her two daughters. In later years, she joined the YWCA book and needlecraft clubs, and took Tai Chi and yoga lessons. She participated in many activities and classes at the Oak Ridge Retirement Center, and particularly enjoyed crafts and artistic expressions. She was a member of the Loudon United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, and a sister. She is survived by her brother, Forest M. Kendall of Nappanee, Ind.; daughters, Johanna, of Alexandria, Va., and Carla and her husband, John McCarthy, of Loudon, Tenn.
