    1. [TNSCOTT] TNSCOTT and TNSCOTT-History Mail Lists Retiring and Merging
    2. Tim West
    3. Rootsweb and Ancestry have decided to retire the Rootsweb mail list effective 2 Mar 2020. This mail list has been a long time part of my Scott County, TN website -- actually since its inception in Oct 1996. This means you will no longer be able to post new or reply to messages on this Rootsweb list. Messages that already exist in the list will be archived and supposedly available for searching but for how long is not stipulated by Rootsweb or Ancestry. You have basically two options going forward for keeping informed about updates to the Scott County, Tennessee website or to post and answer genealogy and history queries. 1. Join the Facebook group mentioned below 2. Join the TNSCOTTHISTORY forum hosted by groups.io. See below. FACEBOOK: Mail lists have pretty much gone the way of the dinosaur with the advent of services like facebook, etc. There has been virtually no traffic on the Scott County Rootsweb list in months as most of the subscribers now use the facebook page "Scott County, Tennessee History" for their genealogy related questions. Facebook just provides a much more interactive, functional, and far reaching mechanism than the Rootsweb list was ever able to provide. In its hey day the Scott County Rootsweb list had maybe 200 to 300 subscribers. The facebook page noted above has a little over 7,000 subscribers as of today. Rootsweb made it easy for me to keep mail list messages on topic (i.e., eliminate spam and non-Scott County related message before you ever saw them). The moderators for the facebook page do a very good job at removing spam and unrelated messages from the facebook group too so you need not worry about unrelated "crap" on the facebook page wasting your time. The facebook group is private so you will need to request membership and answer a few qualifying questions before membership is granted. This is done to keep the spammers at bay. The group is found here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/ScottCountyHistory/ Let me know if you have problems accessing the facebook group. TNSCOTTHISTORY: For those of you who would like to continue the mailing list experience I would like to invite you to consider joining the new Scott County, Tennessee Genealogy Group on groups.io. Below is the link to the page to join. https://groups.io/g/TNSCOTTHISTORY The mailing list functions much like the old Tootsweb lists but now you'll have the ability to send attachments to the entire group. A huge plus! Since there are many county lists that may not come back after Rootsweb shuts things down I felt it was necessary to expand the focus of the group to include adjoining counties in Kentucky and Tennessee. Sometimes when searching for ancestors it becomes necessary to expand the search zone. Whichever way you decide to go...Facebook or Groups.io I wish you all the best in your search for that elusive ancestor. ...tim west... 1. [TNSCOTT] Invitation to Join New TNSCOTT List
    2. Richard Berkheiser
    3. Hi everyone! I'm the admin of the soon to be former TN-SCOTT-HISTORY List here on Rootsweb. As I was browsing you archive I noticed there is a Facebook group for this county, which is great! I have no issues with that. I've always been of the thinking, "the more, the merrier" when it comes to genealogy research. I also realize there's some people that aren't too fond of doing genealogy on social media. I totally get it and understand where that comes from. For those of you who would like to continue the mailing list experience I would like to invite you to consider joining the new Scott County, Tennessee Genealogy Group on groups.io. Below is the link to the page to join. https://groups.io/g/TNSCOTTHISTORY The mailing list functions much like the old RW lists but now you'll have the ability to send attachments to the entire group. A huge plus! Since there's many county lists that may not come back after Rootsweb shuts things down I felt it was necessary to expand the focus of the group to include adjoining counties in Kentucky and Tennessee. Sometimes when searching for ancestors it becomes necessary to expand the search zone. Whichever way you decide to go...Facebook or Groups.io I wish you all the best in your search for that elusive ancestor. Rick B

    1. [TNSCOTT] Re: Location of Mack and Columbia Harness Memorial Cemetery
    2. Timothy West
    3. According to the inventory done in Jun 2003 both Mack (1933-1986) and Columbia (1934-2002) are buried in the Cook Cemetery at Winona. To the best of my knowledge the cemetery has not been renamed. Its address is even Cook Cemetery Road. Its been a while since I've visited the cemetery so I can't remember if their graves are sectioned off. *...tim west...* *Scott County, Tennnessee Coordinator for the TNGenWeb Project* *https://www. <http://www.>.tngenweb.org/scott <https://tngenweb.org/scott>* On Thu, Jul 11, 2019 at 11:48 AM Claude H Cheatham <[email protected]> wrote: > Does anyone know the actual location of the Mack and Columbia Harness > Memorial Cemetery? > > I have seen the location as Coal Hill and as Sunbright. > > Based on the obituaries of Mack and Columbia Harness that I have, they are > buried in the Cook Cemetery in Winona.
