I am new to this list, so I'm full of questions for those who know the answers. I would like to obtain a copy of what this county record book (below shows it has)that pertains to Hance Hamilton and his immediate family. How do I go about this?? Also, Is there anyone that could direct me to a Hamilton ancestor that has some knowledge of their Hamiltons?? If not that's OK, one can always hope! My relationship with the Hamilton family is through Mary Warnoch, whose name was misspelled by the Guilford, NC marriage court clerks who recorded her surname as Warnoch. I know that the Hamilton family then, modified her surname further to Warnock, which later became her oldest son, James' middle name. James Warnock Hamilton in Williamson Co., TN. I'm sure one of the big reasons for the misspelling was of illiteracy and usually the clerks wrote a surname down as it sounded rather than how it was spelled especially if the individual whose name it was couldn't read or write herself. Mary Warnock (Warmack) married Hance Hamilton's brother, Elijah Hamilton in Guilford, NC in 8/14/1786. It seems from my research all the Warmack siblings who were from VA, married in Guilford, NC, around the same timeframe. Mary was one of my 4GreatGrandfather sisters. His name was William Seignor Warmack of VA, who himself married a Milicent Martin Winchester on 12 Oct 1802. This Hamilton family I have tracked into Williamson Co., TN, where most of the descendents spread out in all areas from there. My purpose for researching within Rutherford County, TN, is to find out where all the rest of the Hamilton clan finally can to rest and how it was that their family members branched out. Below are a few of the surnames I know to have become immediately family which watered down the Hamilton name. The names Ramsey, Reynolds, Hale, and Nelson seemed also to appear and reappear, whenever one of each of these surnames appears within a TN area. I'd love to find some Warmacks within Rutherford, as well. Can anyone assist me, give me some direction, enlighen me as to what I must do to aquire a copy of these marriage licenses, and records within these record books. Please don't pretend I know something about how to do this when something is explained, because I don't know anything as to how to go about this and I would appreciate some direction.
