Anne(and listers) I have thought that too. Daniel was listed in the 1860 Census as being 60 yrs of age and a shoemaker was listed as his occupation. Its possible that he may have help make shoes for the war. he would have been around 62 or so when it started. Like I said in my earlier post I am fairly sure that David served since he was pretty much the "prime" age for a soldier. I have seen both listings for Daniel Pittman(and variations) and David Pittman thru the Civil War Soldiers and Sailors site but have not looked over the records for those. I think I can narrow it down to those units which were formed in the Caney Fork area as the Pittmans were in Dekalb Co. Prior to the war. I feel like it must have been something pretty big to take them away from where they had lived for about 20 yrs. For David and his wife to also be living there too must have been a pretty big thing. His wife and her family were deeply rooted in the Dekalb Co TN area(Adcocks) Looks like Comfort and family were in the 6th Civil Dist. P.O. listed as Florence. Is there anyone on the list who knows about what that area was like esp during war and in 1870 when I have proof in the census saying that my Pittman/Pitman line was living there. Also looks like their neighbors were The Tucker and the John Edwards Families of the 6th Dist. Would love to know more about that area. Thanks for your suggestions. I appreciate any and all help. --Marie Beckman --- Renshaw <renchfam@sdcoe.k12.ca.us> wrote: > Comfort could have come to Rutherford Co., because > Daniel was wounded > in the war.
