Nancy, district 6 in 1878 had a main town of Jefferson. There is a H. Jones, W. E. Jones, W. S. Jones in dst 6 but not all living together. There is a Mrs N. Miller living near Florence Station, a community that ran across the line which divided dist 6 from dst 9. I didn't see a community called Fall Creek in dist 6. HOWEVER, I did see a creek running thru dist 5 from direction of dst 6, called Fall Creek (near Spring Creek both creeks branched off of Stones River) and a S. P. Jones not far; a J. L. Jones further away. As I said previously, I had to order a MICROFICHE copy of this HUGE MAP thru the Library of Congress which cost $31. If it were copied on to paper, it probably would be about 5 feet by 5 feet. I'm doing research on so many different families in Rutherford County, that I decided it would be worth it. HOWEVER, some 10 years ago, a man marketed this exact same HUGE map thru the Rutherford Co, Tn Historical Society and his price then was quite reasonable. I just couldn't find out it is was still available locally. Also, a few of these 1870s Beers property owners maps are available thru your local LDS Fam Hist Center wherever you live. I KNOW because I rented one thru LDS some years ago, and if my memory serves me correct, it was Davidson Co, Tn (might have been Cannon or Wilson as was working on all 3 back then). LDS charges only 15 cents per MICROFICHE to bring the map to your local LDS FHC where it remains indefinitely. (they charge more for MICROFILM). I sure wish I could have gone that route for Rutherford Co property owners maps but LDS didn't have it on their catalog. I don't know a lot about the company that originally made these (Beers Co out of Philadelphia) but I think they did almost every county in the U. S. in the 1870s. I've seen a few listed online, for northern states. My next quest will be a source for the annual SANBORNE FIRE INSURANCE MAPS (whole country, ca 1880-1930) and naturally, I'll want Rutherford Co. My Bowmans had a livery stable in 'downtown' Murfreesboro late 1800s and I have the lot description with street and side streets from deeds of 1880-1900, so am hopeful. These annual maps were only for INSIDE EACH TOWN (and some of the towns they covered, were fairly small). Apparently the company didn't insure property outside the towns. They did not put property owners names on each house but they DID do a drawing (outline shape) of all the buildings sitting on just one lot in every town. Such as a lot might have an outline of: a house with a separate garage and separate workshop. The outline was true to form/shape of each of the existing buildings on the lots that year. I have found a source for these in Texas, and was able to view the maps for 1904, 1905, 1906 and discovered the first year my parent's home was built was 1905. Sure enough the house was outlined exactly as I remembered it-and still is, with curving front porch + the separate garage correctly outlined. Within every single city block on these maps, every lot is clearly marked off (each lot containing the outline of buildings sitting on each lot). Every street and cross street are well marked. These maps also showed 'the downtown square', gave details and many facts on town that year (population, main occupations, ec). Sometimes churches or a few businesses are shown exactly where they were located within the town. The Library of Congress has a complete collection of these Sanborn maps from ca 1880-1930 (every year) but I find that anything to do with the L. of C. is expensive. Even 'look ups' are very expensive-if they'll even do it. In Texas, I found that several of the colleges have bought portions of these maps for years 1880-1930 (just not every single year). One of these colleges for north Texas is located near me and I go to their library (Special Collections) on Saturdays to avoid the usual weekday crowd of students. I'm guessing that some of the colleges in Tennessee also have a collection of these Sanborn Fire Ins Maps for their State. How about the college in Murfreesboro? CAN ANYONE CONFIRM? Since seeing this posting, I've been trying to find my list of Rutherford county publications available from, I think, the genealogical society there. Probably about 4 years ago, I purchased this map from someone in Lavergne for about $10. You're right, it is a very large map and I don't know if it's still available or not. Maybe someone can tell us how to find out about genealogical publications available now thru the Rutherford county society??? Kay
